Re: OOC Thread IV

I dig the idea on paper.  Initiative and turns always get fuzzy on RPoL, so making adjustments for the PbP format only makes sense.

I'd be okay with you rolling Quickness to keep things moving and what you proposed sounds okay to me. If it later turns out to not be okay, we can always discuss. =)

Also...are we still in combat or did Brother Edgar smoke 'em all?

Re: OOC Thread IV

ANything that speeds up combat is good for me. It tends to drag and get dull.

Re: OOC Thread IV

In reply to Smoker Nix (msg # 552):

Let's get a STR check from Smoker!

As for combat, I'm always open to speeding it up. But that can take control out of the players' hands. And Deadlands does tend to have a very involved combat system, just in terms of initiative alone because each card is supposed to be an individual action in the turn as initiative is counted down. For 5 PCs and a bad guy group that (say) each draw 2 cards that's 12 separate actions that need to be resolved individually. Plus you can interrupt actions with sleeve cards. I think this may speed things up, maintain the mechanic of card draws for initiative and allow for a degree of player control.

It's funny... playing over the Internet has been part of RPGs for decades now, but the main expectation is that you will play it in real-time over Skype and so on, so mechanically it's identical. But little or no thought seems to be put into adapting sit-down RPGs into a play by post or PBEM format, forcing players to do the work themselves.

Thanks,

Tony

Yeah that actually looks good Tony.

Sorry about being mainly absent again RL is hectic. Trying to get back into the swing of things.

Hi,

I left everyone's position a little vague, save for Peter, so you can specify where you want to be located. Even Peter can move up if he likes.

Good thinkin'!

As a note, I am leaving on my annual summer camp vacation tomorrow, likely not coming back until a week Friday. We can call a break here then, I have things I should probably be doing more!

In reply to Smoker Nix (msg # 558):

We did! It was very smoky at first. Then the rain came and we had some sunny days, then it rained on and off.

Just to clarify, it was not Peter's decision that led to the rig being fouled on the chainlink fencing. That was my decision, based on my misreading of what he was going to do. Not that anyone is blaming either the PC or the player but it's worth noting!

Incidentally, what is IN the trailer the rig is towing?

Good to be back!

You are on a mission, not trading or hauling anything. I think just fuel and spare parts. But there could be trade goods if you wanted some kind of cover?

I was actually wondering if it would be safer for that band of youngsters to be tucked away there rather than leaving them in the woods...

The rig may not be especially safe!

If the gang is gone, they can probably find some place in town or commandeer a vehicle.

Not safe? Then what am I doing sitting on top of it?

Seriously, good point. But good to know the option is there.

It's why Smoker is getting paid $5 a day to be a gunner. Maybe?

The Humvee is a hard-top with a sloped rear cargo hatchback door but not uparmouerd.

See the picture in the Reference thread.

About how long did it take to clear the rig and get the kids cozy in their new bunker?

It's a tricky job, and with Smoker and Crichton helping out (as they are good mechanics) I determined it took 20 minutes.

Good!  So none then.  Hour per point I believe....  Channeling destructive radioactive forces is so tiring...

Unless there is a ghost-rock bomb Maelstrom within 5 or 10 miles?  Hmmmmmm?

Probably not. You are in rural Louisiana, near the Texas border. Think thick kudzu-draped forests, bayous (swampy lakes), and the odd oil well.

No extra Armor and no replacement ring either. Fun. Call middle position on the little convoy if given a vote.
