Re: In the Junkyard II

"Follow as you may Trask the rest of us up the ladder one will stay to hold the hatch so Trask isn't by himself. If we don't start hurrying we have no chance to catch the bastard whomever he may be." with that Jason heads up the ladder before Smoker and stops close to the top. He takes his stetson off and raises it above the rim of the hatch if it is open. If it isn't open he tries the hatch.

In reply to Jason Sinclair (msg # 223):

Climbing up steel rungs set into concrete, Jason reached the top. The hatch had an elaborate lock but was opened a crack. He opened the steel hatch but his Stetson hat gathered no fire.

Peeking above the rim he saw the hatch was set into a concrete pipe set into the greyish soil near Marketplace. They were now down the road from the cinderblock structure that was the bar. Nearby were parked the motorcycles belonging to the Raiders gang. Two Junkyard MPs were standing guard over the bikes, smoking. They didn't see Jason yet.

Jason gets out and dusts off. He just chuckles a little. "Well that was fun. Hey you two seen any bikers climb out of this access hatch in the last two to five minutes."

Peter didn't say anything and let Jason take the lead up. Smoker went next and then finally Peter followed, climbing up after them. He took it slow, however, because he was old and he didn't want to run up too close in case there was any trouble up top.

Smoker scrambled awkwardly out, trying to hide that his leg was hurting like the blazes after climbing up, and looked around.

Jane covered the rear as everybody climbed up.  She was patient.  If they were going to be shooting it would have probably started by now.  At least, she told herself, they didn't shoot anybody hats or heads...yet.

Trask scans the surrounding area again. "Unless he is just hanging out I don't think we are going to find him." He looks for an obvious route, not that confident of finding the man.

Re: In the Junkyard II

In reply to Increase Trask (msg # 232):

The MPs agreed that someone had gotten away, and notified their commander over the radio.

"Yeah, lots of bikers lit outta here when we arrived. You got a description? What he mighta been riding? The Raiders' bikes were parked over there. Most of them are still there because their riders are in custody." He pointed at the shoulder where several dusty, rusty, beat-up motorcycles still sat parked on their stands.

Trask's FLIR wasn't so good at following footsteps outside. (His guess was the footsteps were about 15-20 minutes old, from around the time they arrived.) But he was able to see where several bikes had been formerly parked. Among the Raiders' bikes was a spot where all the dust was disturbed, and a large but fading thermal "bloom" on the ground. A trail-like "footprint" led off from this to the road where it mixed with the tracks of other vehicle traffic.

Re: In the Junkyard II

"Probably. I would have been. Which is why in a proper raid we should have dropped a three mile cordon, but those were the old days. Have to accept it these days. We see him again he dies. High handed Peter I know, but he probably is the grenadier so I really don't care. Even if he isn't he ran ahead of a hanging judge or close enough to one that he knows he is going to get the noose." Jason is a grim, dark person. He seems even more grim and dark if that could be possible.

Re: In the Junkyard II

Peter didn't respond to Jason or the MPs. He heard what was said, but it all boiled down to the biker got away. And who knew if any of them had seen enough of whoever it was to know them if they saw the person again. Peter hadn't, he knew that. He'd been in the back. He wanted to beat the fuck out of the men who called back inside to get the grenade thrown into the kitchen - unless Schaeffer died, then it would be worse. But he doubted he'd run in to that biker again either.

He shrugged it off and headed out front to the vehicles to head to where Schaeffer was at.

The doctor said that Schaeffer was in critical condition. He was still hanging in but his condition could change at any time.

"Of course, you have the eternal gratitude of the Templars. We pulled some strings to get the best care for your friend. One of the senior Templars, Joan, has arrived and we have gone back to the negotiating table so everyone's a little distracted around here.

"But you were looking for the man responsible for this? Or at least involved? A biker named "Kargo"? Part of Modeen's warband, possibly an anti-Templar himself?"

Smoker glowered, an unusual sight for the generally mild-mannered mechanic.

"You may get your chance to sort him out, yes.

"The organisation they are forming to take on the Combine is going to be called the "Iron Alliance". Because Junktown is the "Iron Oasis, I guess?"

"Anyways, the Librarians are going to form the backbone of the intelligence-gathering apparatus. We already have agents in advance in different communities. I put the word out. With luck we may get a hit. He has less than a day's lead, and assuming not too much more time doesn't passes before we get a lead you have an excellent chance of catching up.

"Now all we need is a phone call from someone who saw a biker matching Kargo's description, riding a hoverbike, and we're in business."

Trask opens the face plate on his suit."So we are done here ? If we are I need a ride back to the hotel." If they do have the intelligence apparatus in place it was not going to happen today or at all probably. It had been a difficult couple of hours that had cost Trask and that never put him in a good mood.

In reply to Increase Trask (msg # 244):

Trask had gotten a lift in from Macon, who had other pressing business.

Hellstromme Memorial was in east Junkyard, as was the hotel and city hall.

The armoury was located in west Junkyard. It was close enough that a he could make it there on foot in ten-fifteen minutes to drop off his armour. Or else he could store it in the hotel and recharge the power pack from the hotel room's electrical socket. (He had been comped a room by the city government.)

In reply to The Marshall (msg # 245):

With the look he received from the militia it looked as if they would be legging it. So he made his way to the armoury to drop off his suit, surmising if they do get the call he would have a few minutes to retrieve it.

"So back to the hotel. I still have money to lose at the casino ?"
