Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

Eli says, "There we go!" and Emerald can be heard saying, "Wh-...wow. That was fast, Eli!"

Eli follows Emerald into the main room. Emmy is carrying the fan, turns it on, and it works.

Angel looks. Then looks at the others. "A repairman? For no repair bill cost? I'd say we have a keeper."

Eli blushes. "That's nothing... compared to what you guys do. Oh! Here's my parents...."

He dials the parents and offers the phone to Mittens.

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

Joe does not suggest the technically inclined kid has either set up pre-recorded messages (or robotic parents).

He facepalms at the skewing of their job status.  "Only because some of us might not die a violent and bloody death, merely be in extreme pain when Godzilla steps on us.  I fully expect plenty of the things I have and will do to be incredibly stupid.  It's just that half the time incredibly stupid is because I'm walking closer to carnage instead of away from it."

"Squee!" Mits cheers when working fan is demonstrated.  The roach wiggle's its antannae at the fan as if considering it a snack.

"Thanks for the fan fix.  I know there's a pun in there somewhere.  No worries, Joe.  You'll be in good company surrounded by other stupid people who rush toward carnage."

She accepts the offered phone.  "Never fear, Mittens is here!  I'm told I'm speaking with the proud parents of Eli - the clever boy who just fixed our broken fan in under 60 seconds.  He says you're close by.  So come on in!  I'd like to meetcha!"

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

The parents show up. They looks rather generic. The mom looks like a soccer mom. The dad looks like a standard yuppy. They have nervous looks on them and look around at the place while the dad introduces himself and offers a handshake to Joe. Why Joe? Because he's the only adult male visible.

Liberty and Timothius get to offering a controller to Eli so he can race.

Angel smirks at Mittens' point. If Joe considers himself stupid, he'll have to accept that his friends are also.

Joe still wonders if he qualifies for that except in the legal age minimums sense, but some days 'close enough' is what you have to work with.

He returns the handshake pleasantly enough.  "Hello, nice to meet both of you, and Eli again.  I hope the trip wasn't too out of the way for you."

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

As usual, the roach made itself scares the moment someone arrived at the door.  Old habbits die hard.  Mits chuckles inwardly about shy boy having shy parents.  As tempted as she is to tease them she manages to refrain.  Instead she uses a laser pointer to point at each person in succession.

"Laser pointer introductions!  This is Joe, Emerald, Angel, Timothius, Liberty, and Mittens.  Welcome!  Can I get you something?  Water?  Fruit punch?  Snack?"

She peels herself out of the lazy-boy and starts walking for the kitchen.

The mom say, "Uh... water, please?"

The dad says, "Good to see you again also. And we live nearby. The travel was just a matter of walking. My name's Brian. This is my wife Sue."

He glances at Emerald, then back to Joe. "So now that we're here at the place you meet... what is it you do here?"

Eli manages to bring himself to play the video game. It is clear, though, that his shyness almost kept him from it.

"Well, that's convenient.  As for around here."  He glances around,  "Mittens works herself to exhaustion with legislative work, while the rest of us try to unwind between helping the elderly get groceries home or talking down children turned into tornadoes.  Most of the time it's closer to the first thing though, so the news tends to ignore it because it's boring to say 'The Citizen's patrol spent another day sorting food donations'"

His father's suggestion to 'Track down the people who shoved perishable, expired, or open foods and throw it at their skulls' was very tempting but alas, not implemented.  That's his story and he's sticking to it.

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

"On it!"

Mits hurries to get the mommy a glass of water, muttering a mantra to herself.  "I will not give the parents a hard time about sending their shy boy alone.  I will not give the parents a hard time..."

After all, for all she knows he asked to go alone.  Either way, she returns with a glass of water and a smile for the mom.

"So... loafing," she surmises, "Get it?  Cat loaf?  Har har harflcopter.

"Thank heaven its not legal mumbo jumbo I've been dealing with.  Roz has most of that handled.  Instead I just spent the last several days traveling the world and the seven seas to locate where the next big uh-ohs will be happening.  Stumbled upon a terrorist camp while flying over it in a stealth jet.  Wasn't allowed to join the commandos who subsequently clobbered them.  Instead I was whisked away to an obscure fault line that was exhibiting weird seismic activity.  Sure enough my adventure sense tingled like it did a week before aqua monster showed up.  I'm told the place will be watched closely.  Other stuff was found like a chimera ant outbreak, unseasonal typhoon stirring up a school of sharks, elephant stampede, and whatnot.  So yeah.  That many hours in a cramped cockpit back seat and I could use some nice relaxing food donation sorting."

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

Emerald flicks an ear. Able to hear Mittens' mantra clearly while the parents can only hear that Mittens is mumbling. Emerald giggles, but doesn't comment.

The mom thanks Mitts for the water when she returns.

Liberty says, "How come you go all those places without us? Is it because you're only being used to sense things and nothing more?"

Timothius says in a jaded tone, "Pretty much." he puffs out his chest and puts on a mock-serious expression. "Your healing won't be needed, young man. We assure you we will keep your sister out of danger." He glances at Mittens. "Gotta admit, though... they are keeping you out of danger, it seems."

Eli crashes his car in the game. Then says, "Sometimes I wish I could reach into a video game to repair the machines that get destroyed..."

Angel glances. "Indeed. Repairing a fan is one thing. Not a small deal for a boy your age. But you claimed in your information that your abilities go far beyond household appliances."

Eli says, "I can fix just about anything..."

Eli's dad says, "It's good to hear you are using your power world-wide. You may have saved thousands. Maybe even millions."

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

Is it an irrational dislike of ants getting into your house, when said ants would eat you?  Or at least Joe assumes considering the military was involved.

"Does that extend to things that are metaphorically broken?  I'd figure probably just objects would be the case though." Eli fixes a broken home but not the fact family hates echother, sort of thing.

"Mittens does a lot for people, but some days I wish she'd keep the stupidly dangerous stuff to others."  Joe, Mittens had to get smashed by a tornado because you and Liberty were playing with the live power cables already, duh.

"You're welcome!" Mits answers the mom.

She offers her lil bro a smile and hair-pet.  "You'll be happy to hear I'm not likely to ever join the military now that I've had a taste of it.  'It's not an adventure, it's a JOB!'"

To Joe she gives a helpless look and shrug. "If we'd left stuff to those more qualified, there'd be quite a few more dead people instead of the ones living today.  And Timothius and Lib would likely be prisoners still.  'Cause danger doesn't wait around for the experts to arrive.  And sometimes the experts would shoot a kid with artillery.  Come to think of it, we are the most experienced at dealing with the weird stuff we deal with out of all the people in the world.  But there's always room for improvement.  I've been asked to have everyone take emergency training."

She nods to Eli.  "Even those who'll be plenty busy fixing stuff and won't ever be rescuing orphans from a fire dragon."

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

Eli asks, "Emergency training? Where would we be doing that?"

Angel says, "A number of places. The local fire department has offered to train us on how they do their job. The local police department has offered to train us both on the law and what to do in situations where calling the police is not an option. Including how to use a gun, should we spot one."

Eli's eyes go wide. As does Liberty's. "Wow, really?! Cops are gonna teach us how to use guns?!" she blurts out.

Angel nods and says, "The hospital has also offered to teach us first aid and other basic medical techniques. As was pointed out, Timothius' healing, while life saving, can also leave someone healed incorrectly and thus, not able to use their bodies the way they were supposed to. Such as a bone not being set straight."

Liberty says, "I'm excited! When do we get started?"

Eli looks at the bunch in bewilderment. "Wow... so like a bunch of field trips to emergency people?"

Angel nods. "Yup."

Proper firearms training?  His mother will be so pleased... No, really, we mean that.

"I admit some days I wish I didn't have so much of a conscience, considering I joined up on the basis of this not being some insane thing like that.  But I guess I'm just too stupid to not try to prevent disasters happening right in front of me." If he was smart then he wouldn't do things like electrocute himself to stop a rampaging water elemental.  But then where would that get us?

If Joe were spiderman, Uncle Ben would still be alive but wishing Joe didn't whine so much about stopping crimes that keep happening wherever he goes.

"On the other hand you could look at it this way: While danger and physical distress are inevitable no matter how much one wants to avoid them, by having a conscious you've wound up in the company of one who can patch you right up when you do get hurt.  Your and my hospital stays were very brief.  Speaking of - first aid should be our first step.  Free class starts in about 90 minutes."

Re: Scene 7: Earth Day

It's a relatively pleasant "meet and greet" with Eli's family. Eli seems excited about the doctoring lessons.

When it comes to be about time for the group to head for the hospital, Angel takes them all to see a "surprise" she cooked up for them.

http://images.dealerrevs.com/g...hoto.php?id=18407120

"Tada!" Angel says, "Our first official "Citizens' Patrol" vehicle. While most times, our own cars will do just fine, this bus-van will do great for toting larger amounts of our members to and from places... such as the lessons people are offering us."

Not that the lessons are the only event the group will experience that require a big vehicle. But it sure was convenient for today!

Somehow, the old person bus just seems fitting for an organization that splits it's time between reflector vests and fighting SWAT Orcs.

"Well, not gonna say no to a refresher on keeping somebody from bleeding to death in the middle of a tornado."

OOC: "Well, at least the shuttle is relativly normal lookin-"
"Mittens has made a shuttle bus sized reflector vest for the Citizen mobile!  Joe why is there a Joe face shaped dent in that brick wall?"

"Hot dang!" Mits cheers, "I'm dri...  taking shotgun!"

Mits blushes when her tornado evisceration comes up.  "I doubt they'll have any idea how to perform first aid while still inside a tornado.  And for the record it was very small and not even a real tornado."

She hops in the front seat and immediately plays with all the switches can find.  "Ooh!  Glove-box!  Maybe it has a manual on how to use the ejector seat!  Whee!"

Angel heads for the driver's seat. As Mittens clicks switches, various things happen. One switch turns on an overhead light. Another switch doesn't do anything. Another switch opens the glove compartment. "There is no ejector seat, Mittens. But there *is* an emergency exit in the back of the bus."

The others start to pile into the bus. Van. Thing. Eli flicks one of the flicked switches back to its original setting before going to sit down.

Joe is pleased to see that Mittens didn't find the 'permanent Achey Breakey heart' setting on the radio or something.

Though at the mention of emergency exits while people are playing with buttons, Joe opts for a seat more in the middle of the Citizenmobile.

"The jet had an ejector seat.  But the big wigs warned me sternly, 'Pull that lever and you'll have destroyed a multi-billion dollar jet, put yourself, the pilot, and anyone below at risk of permanent injury and death, and landing yourself in jail for a very long time.'  So many lashes for asking a simple question."

Mits plugs her smart phone into her mini radio transmitter then tunes into it on the bus radio.

The bus gets underway. Timothius and Liberty seem to be helping Eli lighten up. The parents, of course, just hang out and chat with Mittens and Joe.

Then the bus starts bouncing a bit like it ran over some large bumps.

"No problemo!" Mits answers Angel.

She's more than happy to chat it up with Eli's parents, flip-flopping between sounding like a prodigy teen who runs a history-changing global movement and an overgrown silly child.  At first she playfully exaggerates how much the bumps are jarring her but Joe's paranoia shuts her up and she looks around with the seriousness of a seasoned soldier looking for snipers.

"Here's hoping the reason it didn't register on my trouble sense is because it's a minor disturbance."

The bump causes Liberty to bump her elbow against the side of the bus. "Ow..."

Timothius reflexily goes to put a hand on Lib's elbow. Then says, "Wait... ow?"

Liberty says, "...yeah. It hurt. And it still hurts even though you're touching me."

Angel says, "Not good..."
