1) Is vale still alive?
2) is Natalya still alive?
3) are vale and Natalya still together?
4) Are they in magnimar?
5) are they in varisia?

I am going to try to contact a greater diety.

Casting fox's cunning on myself, and having Ulz aid another and taking 10 will get me a check of 18.

If you do not allow the taking of 10, (I do understand there is a small debate on whether you are threatened when casting Contact Other Plane.)

Then, fox's cunning, Ulz aiding another along with brit aiding another and whoever else I can get to aid another to get my check up to 18 to contact a greater diety.


Of course having guidance cast on myself along with heroism and whatever other stacking spells I can get on myself will also be used.

Good questions,

Can you take 10 on the int roll for COP, or is the pressure of contact with "minds far removed from your home plane" which could cause "your brain being overwhelmed" enough of a distraction to disallow take 10?
How many people can "Aid Another" on this roll?  IMO 1.  It's hard to concentrate on more than 1 other being while you are trying to concentrate on COP.

Casting fox's cunning on myself,

While you are 10th level, FC lasts 10 min and the casting time of COP is 10 min.  For this level your FC spell will not last long enough (by 1 round).  But you can get someone else to cast it on you while you cast COP.  You know several friendly wizards who you could give the spell to (ie; let them copy it) who would be happy to cast it on you for free.  Though letting them choose 1 question might be a nice gesture on your part.

Guidance and Heroism don't work on Ability Checks.  I do recall some spells and abilities do specify they work on ability checks.  But they need to have a duration long enough or I will require a skill check (Spellcraft) to cast/use them at the proper time.  The "Fortune" witch hex (Nasmas) is one of them, as is the Luck domains "Bit of Luck" (3.0/msg 17).

I am of the camp that you can take 10 on this ability check because you are not actually threatened while casting the spell, only afterwards.But since there is a chance of failure one cannot take 20.

also CRAP on guidance and heroism. Poop on me for not reading the spells. Just always played those as giving bonuses to ability checks as well.

SO queue in Good Hope instead of guidance but need a bard or somebody with some UMD skills besides myself


I am not aware of any caps on aiding another, nor would me casting a spell have much to do with other's ability to give me advice on what to say, how to say it, or my finger positions being incorrect.

I am 100% fine with other helping me out with spell at the cost of their own question being asked. I was envisioning this to be a group effort from the start. Me coming to them and saying  ' I can do this, I need help and you can offer suggestions'

Per fox cunning;
  Vereld is the only one in the group that can cast FC w/o using a scroll/UMD.  However, I just had a thought, you can designate Ulz as the toucher.  But when does the held spell dissipate, as soon as you start casting COP or when you finish casting COP?

  Do you want to look for any 7th level bards (who may, or may not have the spell GH known) or 5th level clerics with the Revelry (sub of chaos) domain?  Clerics would probably be easier and more likely.  I will look around the npcs of Sandpoint and Magnimar, but I bet you can find one.  It would probably be cheaper than buying a scroll of a 3rd level spell.  And most of the cleric are going to be some flavor of CG.

Guys I am sorry I am not contributing here... I must say it is a bit out of my depth. I fail to see how other planes can get to know anything about the questions you pose.

No one indicated In Character that they were looking for an appropriate cleric (Revelry domain) for Good Hope, so this time you can try without it.

So that's +8, roll 2d20 vs dc 16, which you make easily...this time.  Answers in Intermission thread.

I guess we have a couple of days of travel to get there. Could I have cast contact other plane to get information, I see a cliff that it is built on. Cliffs.npemally have a ton of caves in them so maybe there is a back way in?

Now that you are 11th level Vereld can cast foxes cunning on himself and it will last long enough to effect the int roll for COP. (+2 to int roll)
One other PC can try to Aid Another on an Int roll.


Nasmas is currently missing, so no Fortune hex.
You are out in the wilds, no cleric to look up for bit of luck or Good Hope.

The questions I feel I need to ask is
1) are there caves at the cliffs near jorgenfist?
2)do those same canes lead into a backway entry into the fortress?

other than those 2, I am willing to hear other ideas on questions

what is the limit on how many can assist other on me?

Per Aid Another;
answer in msg 6 says 1, but I'm going to change that.  I have added the following clarification to my house rules in the 1st post of the ooc thread.

I am confident I can hit lesser diety DC

But I can guarantee hit elemental.

I get multiple 5th level spells a day, while traveling I will not be using any, So I will try to get both if that is ok with you.
