I had good rolls. Several. In a row.

That's certainly a rare clue right there, and a sign of the coming Apocalypse.

And on a more practical note :)

"Snake Road. The fabled road that the Ferelden war hero the Bane of Ostagar took to sneak behind the Tevinter front lines, break into Ostager and take the supposedly impenetrable fortress. [It had stood against the tribes of Avvar, Chasind, and Almarri (Fereldens) for centuries. And had allowed the Tevinter Imperium to control parts of Ferelden.) Without their southernmost and best fortress and due to the first Blight, the Tevinters had to surrender control of Ferelden to the tribes. That was 1100 years ago.

The road, old soldiers say, is haunted. Before reaching Ostagar from this direction, it leads into the Korcari Wilds. Soldiers patrolling Southern Ferelden avoid the path preferring to fight wolves and occasional Chasind rather than risk running into a Chasind village, Korcari crocodile, or other Wilds fauna."

Re: Pestilence of Lahkshaven Thoughts and Clues thread
Probably worth mentioning the oral history Buliwyf had of the Bane.

(Not Bane from the Batman movie this summer - yuk!)

His version had the Bane calling out the champion and defeating him, with the Tevinters honorably surrendering Ostagar.

OOC:  I'd suspect something anytime the words "honorable" and "Tevinters" are combined!  Remember, barbarians just have oral history, so there's no telling how much the facts skewed during the years.  Imagine a game of telephone going for a hundred years.  :)

Worth noting that in each story, the Bane was of the race that told the story as well. Fereldans believe he was of the Almarri tribe (Ferelden); Avvars believe he  was an Avvar. Perhaps, the Chasind have their own version of the tale because the three tribes banded together to drive out the Imperium. Food for thought, at least.
