Orath vs. Ghoul

As Orath is lifted into the arena section of the Colosseum, he feels the earth shaking from the roar of 50,000 spectators who have come to see some bloodshed. As the trap door is moved and Orath's elevator lifts him to the arena proper, the sound is almost deafening. A hideous boney looking creature rises from the floor diagonally across the way and half of the crowd gasps in horror. The creature, known as a ghoul, is chewing on the bloody remains of an armbone as it takes its position. Suddenly most of the arena floor falls away, leaving just a small section for the combatants to duel. A 10' by 10' section of water in the middle is the only thing stopping either foe from just charging straight across the sandy floor. At the sound of trumpets, the battle begins...

As the trumpets sound, the ghoul tosses aside the arm bone (leaving him without any obvious weapon or armor) and eyes his next meal across the way. However, the smell of so many live meals all over the arena makes him hesitate slightly before going after the one with the sword.

Orath grinned as the elevator slowly rose, taking him within view of the horde of screaming people. Savages, all just looking for their next fix of blood. Well, he would be happy to oblige; no sense in letting these people go away disappointed. After all, the happier they were, the more likely they would come back, and the more money he could make off of their bloodlust.

The longsword was slowly drawn as he strode forth across the arena, staring at the undead thing that snarled at the other end of the arena. "Come on then," he shouted at it. "Come get your meal."

The ghoul feels Orath's curse sweep over him and slide right off with no effect. He screams and charges, ready to sink his teeth into his opponent...

Orath waited for the beast to be nearly upon him before he suddenly seized the hilt of his longsword with both hands, swinging it hard to meet the onrushing thing at chest level.


OOC: In the future with readied actions, would you prefer we make the rolls for it as we ready the action or wait for the circumstance to trigger?

Readied Action: Attack with longsword. Atk roll 12, Dmg 12.

00:39, Today: Orath Melixis rolled 12,12 using 1d20+6,1d8+4. Atk/Dmg.

Just as the ghoul is able to take a bite out of Orath, a longsword appears and nearly cuts right through the undead's unbeating heart. Taken completely by surprise, his teeth find nothing but air.

Charge atk: rolled a natural 1 :)

The ghoul is severely wounded.

OOC: Wait and make the readied attack rolls when it happens. That way your opponent doesn't know the result before making his/her choice on triggering the action.

Orath smirked as the thing staggered back, an arc of blood sent spraying through the air to the roaring approval of the crowd. But this wasn't what they came for, oh no. They came to see death, and he would give it to them. Almost casually he lifted his blade once more, swinging the sword towards the creature's neck.

The crowd does indeed love the action as Orath nearly cleaves the ghoul's head right off. The undead creature falls roughly to the sandy arena floor and does not move.
