Re: OCC Thread

In reply to Director (msg # 972):

Well, that's not good. It puts a 'time limit' on the boss fight, because the Chief potentially has reinforcements coming. Since the Mayor is in no immediate threat. reinforcements aren't so feasible for us. (and even if they were, two SWAT vamps are more then a match for the rest of the party.)

Re: OCC Thread

DRAMA POINT RULE ALERT

I was reading over the drama point rules this morning.  Some errors have been made.

When you spend a heroic DP, it can be used for offense OR defense  not both.  I had forgotten this one myself, so it won't affect any previous rolls.

But this rule is now in effect as it should have been all along.  It's all explained in the drama point rule section.

Also, an apparently forgotten use of HF DPs are increasing damage, you can spend a DP to up your damage done by 10 points.

But if you want to spend a DP for damage, you can't spend one for offense of defense in that round.

Quote the book:  "Also, only one Heroic Feat may be performed in a Turn.  It can be used for attack, defense, or damage, but not for more than one of those in the same turn."

Re: OCC Thread

Ok. So what is our plan for the mayor? Do we think we can take him? Or are we best off running away at top speed?

Re: OCC Thread

Annabelle votes for waiting around the corner of the stairs and ambushing the mayor when he comes down the stairs.

Since we can't leave the building, we have to face him sooner or later.

Unless we can find his books. But that is admittedly a bit of a long shot.

Re: OCC Thread

Hmmm. In the current fight, it's probably best to use Heroic D. All the offense in the world is useless if the enemy negates your attack.

Re: OCC Thread

Would Aaron mind if Annabelle borrows his sword for a moment since he's mostly using his bow and arrows?

A sword in her hands with her level 6 strength will dish out some mayor damage.

Re: OCC Thread

Actually, that's a really good point.

IF HF no longer buffs offense and defense, what happens if somebody does try to spend a DP on attack or damage, but the clever enemy negates the attack with a knockdown?

A: The attack never completed, so you don't spend the point!
B: Your poor foresight cost you a DP and you get nothing!

Note this wouldn't be a problem in tabletop, due to the Player being able to roll defense vs. Enemy's attack by itself before deciding to spend drama.

Re: OCC Thread

If you choose to spend a drama point on attack or damage and the bad guy gets initiative and knocks you down, thus voiding your attack for the round, I'll give the DP back to you.

Re: OCC Thread

The truly sad part about 'near missses' with stakes?

Stake through the heart does x5 damage...only if it's enough to take the vamp below 0. Otherwise, it only does x2 damage. So all of Bot's amazing attack aren't getting a good multiplier.

Fortunately, break neck does x4 damage whether it works or not ;)

Re: OCC Thread

Your go, Bot! Remember this guy has body armor, which will take 12 damage off every stake attempt before multipiers.

Re: OCC Thread

At this rate I wonder what the penalty is for ripping off that armor? I need to look that up str or sexy doubled?

Ripping off armor is not covered in the book, so it's left to my discretion.

If you want to get his armor off, you first need to knock him unconcious, then remove it while he's out cold.

Re: OCC Thread

Thing about muscle (and combat, and brains).

Those are static values. Muscle, in particular, is calculated as (Str*2+6). So if the enemy's resisting with muscle+d10, he's actually getting a free +6 to all rolls he shouldn't have.

In truth, Muscle is a static 'to beat' number I'm rolling against. If that number is 20, say, then anytime I roll a 20 or better, I win.

Re: OCC Thread

Not quite.  Remember if the roll vs. score is a tie, it  goes to the defender.  At least it does in this game, not sure how other rules handle it.

So if you roll a break neck attack of 22 against a bad guy with a muscle score of 22, he wins and no damage is done.  Likewise if a bad guys with a combat score of 19 throws a punch at you and your defense is a 19, you win and the punch is dodged.

Ah. Fair enough. I thought you were letting these guys get muscle+d10 for defense, which made me go 'hey not fair'

The action inside city hall is now resolved for this round.  Aaron hasn't logged in since last week, so I proceeded without him since Lance and Annabelle's combined rolls were enough to break the spell.
