Re: OCC Thread

Would Fast Reaction help with the initial roll? It won't help for any rolls after the first, but it would add to that initial 'off the gun' roll.

Re: OCC Thread

I wouldn't imagine it would for the dex roll.  It's usually meant more for how quick you can get into serious mode so to speak.  Initiative and Fear Tests so basically that initial reaction but not the actual action at the start of a fight.

Re: OCC Thread

Got my book in front of me.  Fast Reaction Time gives a +5 bonus for determining initiative. 5 is added to the dexterity of your character when determing who goes first in melee combat. But no bonus to any actual attacks.

It also gives a +1 bonus to fear tests, which rarely seems to matter since almost everyone who grabs fast reaction time grabs nerves of steel too.

Re: OCC Thread

And Merry will sit back, let the boys do the fighting and offer useful advice, as befits her stature! ;). ...at least while we're fighting Turok-Hans.  None of them for her!

He's doing fine at the moment.  That last burst of speed would impress The Flash.

Daniel, you can post your attack move against the Turok Han in the combat thread along with the results of your offense and defense rolls.  Mike and Merry have provided some nice examples from the last fight if you're not sure what to post.

Re: OCC Thread

Luckily I didn't roll a 1 or 10 as I didn't think about whether we were using the Rule of 10 or not, which is obviously not the case.

In retrospect, me taking off was a terrible idea. I should've done a better job with the no man left behind thing.

In retrospect I should have gone for the casual run and gun with the stake and a drama point expenditure.

No problem.

Merry and Annabelle are now finally face to face.  Or they will be once Merry goes in the house and finds where Annabelle is hiding.

So this my first time playing, so I am not sure if I need to do a fear check as well.  What about initiative?

Re: OCC Thread

Depends...

If you have Nerves of Steel, you're immune to fear. If your willpower is 5 or better, you can't fail unless there's penalties.

Re: OCC Thread

I do have Nerves of Steel.  So the Turok-Han are not mega evil or whatever it was that still required a will save even with nerves of steel?

Re: OCC Thread

Nah. Overcoming Nerves of Steel would take something like the First Evil, Glorificus, the Beast from Angel's Show, some of the Circle of the Black Thorn...

Takes SERIOUS bad juju to beat Nerves of Steel.

Re: OCC Thread

Well I figure in Anabelle's case it was more of an emotional trigger for the fear test.  As in Buffy's reaction when her fight was going south with that first Turok-Han.  They're not exactly imposing on first look if you're used to the supernatural somewhat.

Essentially they have the stormtrooper effect.  One lone one may be able to trigger it, but a group of them are probably cannon fodder...that can kill you with numbers as groups are deadly.

Re: OCC Thread

Yes David you would normally go to the combat thread at this point, but not this time as Mike's multiple stakings has caused a Turok-Han retreat for now.

According to the corebook, if you have Nerves of Steel you are immune to fear except for "the strangest supernatural manifestations" and then you get a +4 for those.

Everbody here has Nerves of Steel except Annabelle.  Plus she has a phobia of Turok-Hans which adds to the penalty.

Sorry to keep being the newb but how does XP work in this system?  Do we level and get new skills or stuff?  Or can XP be spent?  Would look it up but only have my iPad and my PDF version of rules are on my pc.

This is a spend XP on stuff system.

I forget the ratios, though, if you'd like to post 'em GM?
