Re: Episode 1 X 4

The girl headed to the sink, grabbed the nearest empty glass, filled it up from the faucet, and downed the whole glass quickly.  She was suddenly nervous at Merry's question, clearly looking uncomfortable despite the fact that she just finished off a bringer.  Her clothes were plain and uninspired to say the least.  She made Annabelle's borrowed wardrobe look fashion show worthy by comparison.  "Well uh, you know, my name is.Jennifer.  I came here from Florida to escape those....uh, those bringer guys and um, you know, take part in the final battle.  And I'm a Slayer now.  And I guess you know, I'm the only survivor."

"A Slayer? We're glad to see you alive, indeed. I thought they'd gotten all of you. And it'd take a while for any more to get called..."

Probably the last thing anyone would expect someone like Mike to say, but there it is!

Annabelle's eyes widened enough to pop out of her head at the new girl's declaration.  "THE SLAYER??!! You're the Slayer?!  How long have you had your powers?!  How long has Buffy been dead?!  Were you a Slayer in training?!  And why the bloody hell did it take you so long to get here??!!"Annabelle said without stopping to catch her breath.

"You know there seems to be a whole lot of battling after this so called final battle.  I don't know who gets to name these things.  But he screwed the pooch."  Daniel tossed in having tossed out one body and making his way for another.  The irony of Michael being grateful to see a slayer was not lost on Daniel.  And if it wasn't for Anabelle's mile a minute questions noticing it would probably the be funniest thought he'd have all day.

"And equally importantly, is there some sort of requirement that the Chosen One be a fashion charity case?!  My lord!  Your atrocious wardrobe aside, any useful information would be lovely."  Merry idly watched the boys moving bodies and did in fact giggle at Mike's happiness at seeing a Slayer.  Will bloody wonders never cease?!

Re: Episode 1 X 4

"Well uh, you see...............I didn't know there was a Slayer dress code...........I um.............." Jennifer said very nervously, clearly off balance from the doubleteaming of the two British girls.  "You see, Buffy didn't die for me to become the new Slayer.  Her friend Willow is a witch......I mean was a witch.....and she cast a magic spell that turned all us Slayers in training into Slayers.  But it still wasn't enough to beat  the army of ubervamps.  But there was this guy Spike on our team who wore this amulet that started glowing and then it destroyed most of the ubervamp army and banished the First Evil to another dimension."

She refills her water glass, and sits down in the nearest chair before going on."None of the good guys got out alive except me and another new slayer named Lindsay.  We made it out of the underground cave and split up once we reached the surface in the high school.   Have any of you seen her?"She describes Lindsay in detail.  It perfectly matches the description of the dead girl Mike found in the gym.

Mike shakes his head.

"I found her just before she died. It was too late to save her. She's gone. You're the last...except for those Slayers who may have been activated elsewhere in the world. It looks like that 'there is ONE chosen one' thing is back in force. Sort of. I'm not sure how many Slayers there are outside of Sunnydale."

Yet more weirdness...Mike wanted to save her, despite his Vamp senses telling him damn well she was a Slayer. The scent of that kind of blood is unique, after all.

Daniel turned towards Anabelle for a moment before reaching for yet another of the dead bringers to haul out.  All potentials got a promotion, huh.  Heaving up the latest lump of corpse, Daniel would sarcastically being to reference a Disney movie as he drug out the body.  "High ho, high ho we're off to something something."

"Oh crap, I'm not ready to be the one and only Slayer!  I didn't know what I was until a few weeks back.  I know the pointy end of the wooden stake goes into the vampire's heart, but not much else." Jennifer says standing up and going to get another glass of water.  "I hope we find some other Slayers soon, hopefully more experienced Slayers.  You're not going to find anymore here, Lindsay and I were the only two on Buffy's team who made it to the surface.   Well, you'll be happy to know we don't have to worry about the First Evil anymore or most of the ubervamp army.  But there's still a crowd of survivors in the high school who made it to the surface like I did.  And once the sun goes down, they'll have the run of the streets, so I give two thumbs up to the get out of town plan." she finishes as she chugs down another glass of water.

Mike shakes his head.

"That Crowd's exactly why we can't leave. We have to wage a guirella type war, and take them down, in small groups. Every small group that goes down reduces the total. Find choke points, don't let them use their superior numbers...but take 'em down. We've already reduced the crowd of 50 odd by 7. Just gotta keep doing it."

Re: Episode 1 X 4

Annabelle raises her eyebrows, but othewise keeps composed at Mike's suggestion of confronting the Turok-Hans up close.  "Wouldn't it be a better idea to just torch the high school and them in it?  Mr. Giles told us a story how Buffy had a gynmasium full of vampires to deal with at her old high school, and she solved it by burning down the gym with them in it.  Of course it got her sacked from that school, but since no one here is in that school, it's not a problem."

All the while, she never takes her eyes of Jennifer.  "Well, well well.  It appears every Slayer in training got promoted to full Slayerhood.  Except those of us who were comatose and buried in the ground at the time, no matter how much time we spent training, only to get passed over for some neophyte who barely knows what a Slayer is. she finished through clenched teeth as she took a couple of steps closer to the new Slayer.  "So what I'd like to know now is how Buffy managed to gather such an army of Slayers in training in such a short period of time.

Re: Episode 1 X 4

Graham grabbed the last of the bringer bodies in the front of the house and pulled it back towards the kitchen.  So much for experienced help, if this Jennifer's intel could be trusted.  The Slayer, Witch, Watcher and other others were all dead.  And 50 some Ubervamps left standing.

Throwing the body on the pile outside the door, he turned to follow Daniel back into the house.  Speaking up when he returned to the kitchen with the rest of the group, he jerks his thumb toward Mike's position in the shadows of the fridge. "Michael makes a good point that they will most likely be disorganized and easier to kill now.  However, without supplies and some medical attention, we won't last very long against them."  Turning to Lindsay, he asks, "Do you know of any other supply depots used by this Slayer army?  Food, weapons, medical supplies, occult research?  We could use any of those items whether we stay or leave."

"We can still do this. The main trick is to never get swarmed. If they manage to actually use their numbers effectively, we're done. But as long as we can pick off groups, we should be able to take them done, a few at a time."

Hmmm.

"Burning down the building also works, if we have enough firepower for it. Particularly if the burning starts in the morning, and there's almost nowhere for them to run."

"Well said, Annabelle!  I daresay the sodding Turok-Han won't enjoy a thorough roasting, no?"  From the smirk on Merry's face, she also seemed to approve of Annabelle's catty rant, but she seemed to have unexpectedly grown enough tact not to mention it.  Yet.  Instead, she turned to Graham and rolled her eyes.  "Seriously?  Hidden supply depots?  You're a real army bloke, aren't you?  What part of the Slayer's little scheme doesn't seem like a pitiful gathering of fly-by-night future victims all trying to be the last one killed--no offense Annabelle?  It looks like every useful occult book was already here, and the fridge is in simply dreadful need of stocking."

Jennifer takes a couple of steps back away from Annabelle, even more uncomfortable then before.  "Uh...n-no supply depot.  All we had is....I mean uh, was here.  And it um....took several months for the Slayer to...you know, gather us as an army.  She started gathering up all the Slayers in training since uh.........last....D...December I think.  And it's now May, so it did, you know, take a while." she managed to get out, hoping everyone would turn their attention away from her.  Or the earth would open up and swallow her.

"Jennifer, you're the last, as it turns out. That means we need you to step up and be, not just a Slayer, but THE Slayer. That is to say...you're the Buffy now. Heir to her memory, and all she stood for. And I'm not going to be enough to take all these guys down. Not alone."

Mike, of all people, is trying to be comforting by saying that...even if it simultaneously turns up the pressure.

"How can she be the Slayer when she doesn't even know what month it is?"she says to everyone else.  "It's still December!  What day is it anyway? I haven't missed Christmas have I?" Annabelle finishes, waiting for anyone to give her an answer.

Re: Episode 1 X 4

"Alright, so I'm just going to be blunt now.  It's sort of my thing so let's follow along.  Anabelle it is most definitely not December so you were in that ditch that you dug yourself out of for longer than you think.  Let's just go ahead and call it, you were dead.  Maybe some sort of weird after effect of the fight brought you back.  Whatever, you were six feet under for six weeks over.  Mike, I'm not sure what forbidden romance tree you're barking up but if she does get all motivated you do still have a wood allergy.  Graham the Army Navy surplus probably has no lines, go nuts.  Meredith keep doing what you're doing.  Alright everyone all caught up?  Good, we only have so long until sunlight doesn't provide comfort and I just had to cut in before we all let the real emotional heebies start and the school is no longer locking Nosferatu's better looking siblings up."

After he finished his little rant Daniel made sure to reach into the cupboard pulling out a slim jim and taking a quick bite.  He wasn't upset and his tone didn't exactly falter while ranting.  It was simply a matter of saying what was on the man's mind.

After staring in shock for a moment at Daniel's outburst, Graham turns to the others. "Daniels right. We need to leave this place and quickly. Everyone start grabbing stuff and load up the bus.  We can continue this conversation on the road."

Seeing her reaction to being interrogated by everyone else, he turns to Jennifer and says, "Why don't you take a few minutes to wash up a little before we leave." He reaches out to gently touch her elbow and slowly escorts her to the stairs. Quietly for her ears only, he murmurs, "It will be okay.  Just take a few moments to your self and then come back down when you feel calmer."

Re: Episode 1 X 4

"Thank you Daniel.  Should you ever find yourself in need of a job, and preferably better dressed when you come calling, I'll see to it daddy gives you something with a middling amount of peril."  Merry's response was surprisingly prim and businesslike, but then she was being complimented for being her.  The least she could do was acknowledge Daniel's uniquely uncommon good sense.

She then turned to Annabelle, patting her arm reassuringly.  "There there Annabelle.  Stiff upper lip.  Being some state of undead is nearly fashionable these days!  We just have to figure out what sort you are.  If you manage to develop any super-strength, you can always grab the Slayer by the ankles and use her as a club.  It's the most likely way she'll actually contribute anything after all."

She then turned to the others and stood with her hands on her hips, impatiently.  "Now then.  We've had quite enough navel-gazing.  This house is a deathtrap--and I'm not only referring to the decor.  Let's be gone from here, find somewhere to spend the night, and then gallavant by daylight, smiting those unholy forces who aren't interested in gainful employment elsewhere."

"Ha.  Ha Ha Ha.  So I guess it is May.  I thought something was wrong when it was far too warm outside along with the lack of Christmas decorations for this time of year!"Annabelle begins to laugh.  And not lightly.  More like the kind of laugh you hear while touring an insane asylum.  It's downright creepy.

She starts smelling herself.  "I smell too nice and look too pretty to be a zombie!!  Vampire perhaps?!  Let's find out!!"

Annabelle dashes to the living room and out the front door, running out into the street until she's under the rays of the sun, waiting to see if she bursts into flame.

Jennifer follows Graham's lead and accompanies him to the base of the stairs.  She mouths a barely audible "Thank you" before following his advice and heading up the stairs to clean herself up.

Meanwhile outside:

Annabelle stands out in the sunny side of the street.  And doesn't burst into flame.  Scratch vampire off the list.

Merry sighed and rolled her eyes at Annabelle's hysterics.  When she didn't burst into flames, Merry shouted out the door.  "If you're quite done tanning--which you do need, dreadfully, my dear--then can you come back in and help us finish gathering everything to get out of this middle-class nightmare of a hovel?"  She then turned to Mike and Daniel. "Not a vampire.  So what the bloody hell is going on here?" she says, thinking out loud. She punches herself in the arm.  Then starts cackling with laughter again.  "Not a ghost either!  I can touch myself!"

Annabelle tried to pull her thoughts together.  Did all dead Slayers in training come back as a side effect of the spell? She vaguely recalled another grave next to hers when she crawled out.  One way to find out."Back in a minute.  Have to go check out a grave!"  Annabelle shouted back at Merry. as she took off running again, this time to the spot where she crawled out of the ground.
