Episode 2-1

Just outside of Sunnydale

8:00 am

Begin with a camera shot high in the air.  Pan down towards a highway in California.  You see five figures on motorcycles.  All wearing black leather jackets, gloves and motorcycle helmets.

Camera then moves to their point of view and you can see where they are going as you see the "Welcome to Sunnydale!" sign.  They enter the town limits without a problem, the force field lets you in, it just doesn't let you out.

All five motorcycles keep going until they make it to main street and come to a stop.  The human shaped figures each get off their bikes and look around the deserted town.  One removes his helmet.  He is not human. Green skin, large black eyes with no pupils, although he does have brown human-looking hair.  The other four remove their helmets, their appearance the same as the first one.  None of them say anything.  They put their helmets back on, start up their bikes, and continue traveling through Sunnydale.

_______________________________________________________________________________

9:00 am

Exterior camera shot shows Sunnydale City Hall.

Cut to close-up of the badge of the Sunnydale Police Chief.  Camera pans back to get a good look at the new chief of police.  Yes, NEW chief, not the man we've seen before, and by the way he's a vampire.  He's sitting down, and not too far away from him are two other vampires.  One is in a suit, the other wears the uniform of the fire chief.  They are in an office with the shades drawn to keep the sunlight out.

The one in the suit speaks: "Yes Mr. Mayor, we will have the electricity back on by noon."

"Very good, we're right on schedule gentleman."  says the voice on the other side of the camera that we can't see. "Now congratulations to our new chief of police, whose first official duty will be to see to the retirement party of our outgoing chief. After which you'll pay a visit to Lieutenant Williams out at the military base and tell him his services are no longer required. Then we need to start dealing with the flys in our ointment.  I understand that initiative commando we had in custody has escaped.

"That's right Mr. Mayor.  But don't worry, we're going to take care of him and all his friends too.  That is if the remaining Turok-Hans don't finish them off first."

"Yes, nasty creatures aren't they?  Alright, you boys go about your business.  Remember to take the back entrance where the sun isn't shining this time of day." says the voice of the mayor (whom we still can't see).

Re: Episode 2-1

Sunnydale Police station

9:15am

You recognize the Sunnydale police chief you've seen before working at his desk.
Camera pans over to the door where you see the newly appointed chief (with human face) standing there.

"Hey chief, I've got good news from the mayor."

"What news? And why did he tell you first?"

"I meant good news for me, I'm the new chief now and I'm here to see to your retirement party." says the new chief as he morphs into vamp face.

"No!  I'm the chief!  And when did you become a vampire?!"he shouts pulling out his pistol.

Blam!  The outdoing chief scores a hit, but bullets don't really slow down vamps much as the new chief knocks the pistol away and grabs the old chief by the neck.

"The mayor can't do this to me!  Look at all I've done to cover up the truth about Sunnydale!"

"That's true.  It was you who came up with the 'gangs on PCP' cover that has worked so well, but it's time for a changing of the guard" says the new chief as he bites into the old chief.

Moments later the old chief lies dead on the floor.  "Rest in peace boss.  Oh wait!  Almost forgot!" The new chief reaches into his pocket and pulls out a fake gold watch.  "Got you this for your retirement! Here you go!"  The new chief straps the watch on the old chiefs dead body and gives him a salute. He then pulls out his walkie talkie.  "Okay boys, old chiefs been retired.  Let's get out to the military base."

Re: Episode 2-1

Sunnydale

9:45am

Highway to the military base.  One police car and two large SWAT vans head towards the military base.  All three vehicles have unusually dark windows keeping the sun out for some reason.

Moments later you see the new police chief and one other cop in the hallway (both in human face) as they head towards the office of Lieutenant Williams, commanding officer and last remaining soldier on the base.  They enter without knocking.

"Good morning Lieutenant.  I'm the new chief of police and we have a message to you from the mayor.  We won't be needing a military base on Sunnydale any longer."

Lt. Williams strikes his best disbelief expression as he hears this news.  "You can tell your mayor I don't take orders from local authorities.  And in case you haven't noticed there's a crisis going on, such as the apparent force field surrounding this town."

"We've got a troublemaker here.  Use of force is authorized."says the chief as he and the other cop morph into vamp face.

The lieutenant says nothing as he whips out his pistol.  BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Click! Six bullets, three per vampire, but now the lieutenant has an empty gun.

The chief and the other cop are backed into the wall from the gunfire, but quickly recover.  "Guns aren't much of a problem for vampires lieutenant. "says the chief.

"Yeah, but the are a problem for you pal!" says the other cop as he draws his pistol.  BLAM! BLAM! Two bullets strike Lt. Williams in the chest as he hits the floor as blood beings to pour out of the wounds.

"You moron!  That wasn't the plan!  We were going to hit him a few times, then feed on him together!  Now he's going to bleed out all over the floor and there won't hardly be any blood left in him!"

"Sorry chief, it was an accident!" says the other cop sheepishly.

"Get back, I'll finish him off!"says the chief sounding very annoyed as he leans down and sinks his teeth into the army officers neck. Moments later, the chief has feed and the lieutenant is dead. The chief stands up and wipes his mouth.

"Uh, any left for me chief" says the other cop.

The chief points to the pool of blood.  "Yes, you can lick that off the floor."

The chief pulls out his walkie talkie.  "Okay boys, pull up the two SWAT vans on the shady side of the armory.  We're going to load as many weapons as we can and destroy the rest."

12:00 pm

Sunnydale safe house where most of our heroes are staying.

Michael Smith is just waking up, now fully healed from his daytime nap.  He'll find a note from Annabelle indicating she and Emilia have gone to the mall. He can't leave the house yet since the sun is out.

Meanwhile, Graham is out looking for his friends.

Sunnydale Mall

Camera shot on one of the main entrances to the mall.  All is quiet.

Then suddenly one of the doors burst open.  A teenage girl runs through the door and keeps on running into the parking lot.

As the camera closes in, we see that it's Annabelle Berkshire.  She's not wearing the same thing we last saw her in.  A shiny gold cross hangs from a gold necklace around her neck. Looks like she's been shopping.  And her eyes are red.  She's been crying. A lot.  And she looks on the verge of an emotional collapse.

She's carrying something.  A jar? No, it's an urn.  Annabelle is alone.  No sign of Emilia in sight.

Re: Episode 2-1

Mike yawned from his daytime nap. That was the trick, wasn't it? If he was awake, that meant all the enemies were awake too. Well, more of them, at least. He could only wonder what sort of things the humans around him had gotten up to this time. There was usually something to it.

Well, he could go look for them, or he could wait. For now, he'd wait...telecommunications were cut off, so he couldn't just call the girls on the phone and ask if they were still alive. He figured he'd give them an hour before he went looking for them. That's what he told them they had...an hour after sunset...to meet up with him and let him know what was going on.

Re: Episode 2-1

Graham ducked around an alley way. He waited for the police cruiser to pass him by, then risked a quick look around.  He had been on the run for several hours, after escaping from the “cops” who had picked him up.  He wasn’t sure who to trust any more after they tried to kill him.  The cops for fragg sake!

Seeing no sign of any “cops” or other people who may try to kill him in the next few moments, Graham made his way down the street, trying to act casual. As casual as you can act on an abandoned street, in a city all but overrun by the forces of evil, encased in a field of some unknown mystical purpose.  “You are definitely back in Sunnydale,” he murmured to himself.

Getting his bearings, Graham headed toward the military base.  If Buffy, er, Buffybot, Annabelle, Emilia, and Michael were still together, the base was the most likely place for them to have survived the night.  10 mile hike, through possibly overran territory, with nothing but my trusty combat knife for a weapon, with no dinner or breakfast.  “Hoorah,” he thinks to himself as he begins to move through the streets, keeping his eyes peeled for any signs of enemies, allies or civilian.

About 45 minutes later, he made it a hill about a half mile from the base.  Pausing at the top, Graham scanned the perimeter.  “Hmm,” he muttered to himself, “what happened to the guards that were on duty last night?”

With a weary feeling, he slowly made his way around the perimeter, toward the rear of the base.

Military Base:

Graham makes his way into the base stealthily, but there appears to be no one looking for intruders.  Or doing anything else.  Then he smells it.  The scent of smoke.  As he makes his way to the source, he finds the armory on fire.  The flames are dwindling, the fire is on its last spark.  This is a very tame fire for an armory, indicating whoever set it emptied out the weapons beforehand.

As Graham makes his way inside the base, he heads to the office of the commanding officer.  He enters to find Lieutenant Williams, dead on the floor in a pool of blood and with a vampire bite mark on his neck.

Michael's senses then pick up the fact that.......they're vampires.  But that can't be right, can it?  They entered the house freely without getting burned in the sun.  What's going on here?!

Mike knew that it wasn't possible to be a daywalker without a LOT of magic involved. Daywalkers tend to be BS. Unless that forcefield is filtering UV radiation for all vampires, and none of them are subject to the sun anymore. He's not actually sure if the sun still hurts him anymore.

He'll remain in stealth mode and watch, for now. It didn't seem like they'd be able to find him anytime soon.

"900 Spooner Street, police safehouse".

A search of the commisary shows nothing has been touched.  Whoever was here wasn't interested in food and water.  A search of the barracks will give Graham a change of clothes if he wants.  Anything he needs is still here except weapons of any kind.

At the police safehouse:

The cop shows Mike the contents of the urn he took from Annabelle.

"I guess you heard all this with your vamp hearing, but this is all that's left of Emilia Grey.  A magic spell that went wrong.  Not uncommon in this town."he looks over at Annabelle, then back to Mike.

"The other girl is taking it pretty hard, you'd better keep an eye on her.  We're going to take this urn and we'll contact her parents once communication outside Sunnydale is restored. The good news is electricity, phone lines, and water are all on now, you can call somebody, just not outside Sunnydale. And like we said, you all need to stay here. We've got unusual cloud cover today, meaning sunlight is not keeping the vampires indoors as usual.  Which would be fine if you were the only vampire in town, but you're not.  We've still got several of those prehistoric vampires unaccounted for.

Re: Episode 2-1

"I knew it!  Don't let them leave!"Annabelle shouted.  While absorbed in her grief over Emilia, Annabelle still managed to pay attention when Michael said his senses told him the cops were vampires.  Her test paid off, Michael wasn't the real target of her cross, and she wasn't the least bit surprised when the police revealed their true faces. How they got inside without an invitation can be figured out later.

Annabelle went for the second vamp, aiming a kick at him.
The vamp easily dodged her pathetic attack as Annabelle hoped no one was watching.

Michael quickly made it clear why the others kept him around. He was a warrior through and through, and the sheer grace, speed, skill, and strength of his maneuvers made it clear just how good he really was. Even if he missed, he was just so professional about his combat.

His famous tactic of grabbing a cop...and in this case, throwing him head first into the sturdiest piece of wall he can find...should make his point.

"Leaving so soon?"

Mike grabs the second cop and sends him flying, he misses the wall instead crashes through the front window of the house, doing a nifty Superman impression in the process, as he sails past the porch and lands in the shrubs at the front of the house.  He doesn't burst into flame though, the cops were telling the truth about the cloud cover.

Outside, Graham has made it to the police car, he crouches down and sees no one inside.  Just then he sees a vampire cop fly through the front window and land on the shrubs.  A second later another vampire cop runs out the front door and is halfway to the police car, talking on his radio.  "We need backup!  900 Spooner Street!  Send the SWAT team!".

He keeps running to the car, with Graham hiding on the other side.

OCC: Back to the combat thread.  No damage to the heroes.  Second cop is in the shrubs at the front of the house and is an easy target until he gets to his feet. First cop is halfway to the car but doesn't see Graham hiding on the other side, Graham is in position for an ambush attack if he wants. No sunlight due to cloud cover, so Mike can leave the house to keep fighting. First cop has called for backup, so I suggest you finish this fight and scram unless you want to fight a vampire cop SWAT team.

"Officer dust, meet ashtray."

THOK!   Foom!  One stake from Mike was all it took to finish this one off.

Graham comes out from behind the cop car, combat knife in hand. "Did somebody mention SWATing?" Graham moves forward and catches the vamp's arm with the walkie-talkie, and steps forward with the knife in the other hand, plunging it into the vamp's heart.

"AAAAAHHH!!!  The vampire cop cries out in pain for a second, then stares at Graham.  "Good shot kid, too bad it wasn't made of wood."

Annabelle was the last to rush out of the house.  "We have to finish them off fast and leave!  This safe house is no longer safe!"
The next thing she saw left her breathless. "Graham!  You're alive!"
Michael had one vampire covered and would likely finish him off. Graham was going after the other one.  Annabelle ran up to the vampire by the police car, nailing him with two consecutive punches.

Mike picks up the com unit of the dusted officer.

"Cancel SWAT team, situation is under control."

Mike figured if he said it...well, at least he was a vampire and could prove it if dispatch told him to.

(Bluff check! Which...I think is Influence in this system.

11:16, Today: Michael Smith rolled 13 using 1d10+6. Int+Influence?

Re: Episode 2-1

Two seconds pass then Michael hears the voice on the other end:

"Copy that.  Canceling SWAT team. You two get back here as soon as possible.  The chief wants a full report. Dispatch out."

Michael has bought some time for now.

OCC:You are correct.  Intelligence plus influence for a bluff roll.

Re: Episode 2-1

Mike turns the communication device off, and leaves it in the cop car.

"The police of Sunnydale, undead or not, are deeply stupid. I THINK I bought time for us, the dispatch addressed me as 'you two', but I still think we should get moving, soon."

"And it appears that the vampires are solidifying their control of the town," Graham added while he popped open the police cruiser to search it for any weapons or other usable gear.  "They hit the army base, killing the remaining personnel and clearing out the armory."

After piling everything he collected from the car on the curb, he shut the the trunk and looked around.

Re: Episode 2-1

Mike thought about that.

"They might not be expecting us to go to a military base when everyone there is dead. I guess it depends on if we're seen going there or not. Still, we have to go somewhere. I can't rely on cloudcover forever."

Re: Episode 2-1

"Good to see you again Graham.  I don't suppose you have some alternative transportation nearby?  Using the police vehicle for our escape would not be a good idea."

Annabelle then looks at the assembled group. "It is now apparent that some or possibly all of the Sunnydale police force are vampires.  That can be the only explanation for how they were able to enter the safe house without an invitation. Since the house is the property of the police department, an invitation from a human officer would suffice. If they are all now vampires, an invitation would no longer be necessary since the property would in effect be entirely owned by vampires.

Graham found three things in the trunk of the police cruiser.

A standard issue police pistol (likely a spare if one was lost).

A first aid kit.

A small cooler holding a six pack of Budweiser beer.  Looks like vamp cops drink on duty too.

Re: Episode 2-1

Mike considerd. "Bullets are nigh on useless against vampires. Clearly, they're expecting to mostly be attacking mortals, or they wouldn't carry these. Well, they work on some demons, I suppose. Anyways, they needn't fear having their weapons taken away."

Hmmm.

"The rest of you really need to find a house that still required an invitation. If it keeps me out, it'll keep them out too. Let's go look for one."

Re: Episode 2-1

Graham tucks the revolver at his back, inside his pants and covers it with his shirt.  If nothing else the gun could be used as a distraction.  He grabs the cooler and the first aid kit and begins to move it towards his jeep.  "Actually Annabelle I have a military issue jeep I have, uh, commandeered for the duration of this incident."

He stops next to his ride and stores their supplies.  "Anything else in the house we could use before we abandon this position?" he calls back to the others.  "If so, I suggest we collect it ASAP and then vacate this locale before others show up."

"Yes, I've got something to collect.  Emilia's remains." Without waiting for a response from anyone Annabelle returns to the house and soon comes out with the urn in one hand and Emilia's suitcase in the other.

"Michael, your idea is not an option, we're not leaving you out in the cold.......figuratively speaking.  We will find a safe place for all of us or none.  And don't forget, there are still Turok-Hans on the loose, who are not bound by the invitation rule, so a house won't protect us from them."

As Annabelle talks, Michael can't help but notice the Turok-Han bite on her neck from less than 12 hours ago seems to have healed more than it should.  Not super regeneartion, but looks like it's been healing for a couple of days already.

Mike looks oddly at Annabelle just then.

"Speaking of which, Annabelle, your wound's healing a little quicker then it should. And you're getting better at fighting."

Slayers always had those skills that set them apart.

Annabelle touched her neck.  When she looked at it this morning, it DID look like it was healing faster.  Dare she get her hopes up?

The her eyes brightened as an idea just hit her.
"There's an abandoned house I know of in Sunnydale, we can hide there. Since it's abandoned Micheal can go in.

Re: Episode 2-1

Half an hour later, the three have packed up in Graham's jeep and on their way to the abandoned house.  Any food left in the safe house has been confiscated.  No portable generator to take, but a quick check of two houses on the same side of the street indicates the vamp cops were telling the truth:electricity is back on in Sunnydale.

Five minutes after they depart:

Another police car pulls up, two vamp cops get out. "They're gone chief and the two cops you sent here are piles of dust. Request instructions."

The voice on the other end says "Go on about your business.  It was on a matter of time before they found out the truth about us.  The two cops I sent in the first time were expendable. Over and out."

Cut to a shot of the chief in his office as he picks up the phone anc calls the mayor.  "Mr. Mayor, they've evacuated the safe house.  But I've got good news.  The cops we had stationed at various hiding place across town report the Berkshire girl ran from the mall to the safehouse carrying an urn and crying all the way.  I think she bought it.

You then hear the mayor's voice on the other end, but don't see him."Excellent, little do any of them know that Emilia Grey is on a plan back to England with no memory of what happend here at all. As for Ms. Berkshire, she saw exactly what we wanted her to see and believed every bit of it. That was a delicate situation, a Non-American minor with wealthy parents can't simply be killed, people will notice. We'll likely have to handle Ms. Berkshire in a similar manner. We musn't rock the boat. Good work chief, everything is right on schedule.

The chief hangs up the phone.
