Episode 2-7

The Fish Tank

Less than an hour later

The four heroes have safely returned to The Fish Tank with their newly acquired police cruiser parked in the back (and away from view, you also made sure it doesn't have a gps tracker) next to their military vehicle.

Their reacquired supplies have now been taken inside, there is now enough food and drinks to sustain both Annabelle and Aaron for at least a week.  Despite the missing blood supply, Mike still has enough from the blood bank to last him about a week.  Not much in the way of weapons were in this supply pack, you see just two wooden stakes and two regular sized (X 2 strength damage) knives, along with Annabelle's set of clothes that she originally came to Sunnydale in (and they are in bad need of a washing).

But you now have plenty of occult books (Impressive size library) to help you in any research.

Time to plan your next move.

"I believe that would be the best course for us, as we went to the trouble of getting all of these volumes. And as Sun Tzu said 'if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles.'" Aaron then settles down to read. He takes the largest volume to read through and leaves the others to choose their own.

Re: Episode 2-7

Two hours later:

Aaron finds the spell.  It's a powerful spell (power level 9 in game terms)so it surely wasn't cast by a rank amateur.  The spell is cast by drawing the appropriate mystic symbols pictured, placing a map of the area you want to affect over the symbols, and do an hour long ritual with chanting, candles, etc.

Negating the spell is easy.  To keep it in effect, the map must remain on the mystic symbols.  Remove the map from the symbol area and tear it up, field drops.

OCC: Decided to give you guys a break on the spell research time, if we'd stuck to the research time rules, it would have taken until sunrise or close to it.

Annabelle looks over Aaron's shoulder, reading the details of the spell.

"Well, that seems simple enough.  Of course, first we have to find it.  And it will probably be guarded by vampire SWAT team.  Or a magic booby trap.  Or both."

She walks over to where they placed the few weapons they found in the supply pack and picks up one of the knives.

"I think I'll take one of these, If we encounter any demons rather than vampires, I can dispose of one without getting my stake immersed in demon blood."

"Thank you Michael. I believe you have summed up our predicament quite nicely Annabelle. The spell is easy to disrupt as you saw, but finding it is another matter. Sunnydale is not large, but the number of places this could be hidden are numerous. And as you say the chances of it being guarded in some manner are also high." Aaron sits for a moment wracking his brains for a solution to the problem.

She begins to pace the floor.  "I say we go find us one vampire constable and interrogate him for information on both the size of their forces and where the forcefield is being generated. If they're not behind it, they certainly know who is.  None of them have demanded information from us on the origin of the field.

We need to be careful though. No point adding to the risk by interrogating him here, we should find somewhere else. Just in case we are discovered in the act or, heaven forbid, he escapes." "Alternatively. We make use of our grey matter and use the resources we have at our disposal. We happen to have an item in our possession that will let us keep tabs on the vampire police..." Aaron lets the pause drag out for some emphasis. "The cruiser. It should come with a police radio yes? So we either listen and wait for them to go on patrol. Or we call in a 'sighting' and get some of them to come where we want them. Both have their merits of course, but if time is such a factor I suggest the latter. Of course we would still need a suitable area for us to take them."

"Annabelle. You will have to realise that being the slayer means more than simply being able to kill vampires. You must be able to strategise as well, make good use of those resources that you have."
Realising he is sounding somewhat condecending he stops himself. "Ahem. Sorry. Years of book learning under pompous windbags must have had more effect on me than I believed." He gives Annabelle a sheepish grin of apology.

Moments later, they are sitting in their "borrowed" police cruiser, listening to the police radio.

Lots of activity on the police radio, after a few minutes of listening you can determine that there are at least eight police cars out on patrol right now and their top priority is finding your group.  From what you can tell by listening, they are not searching any buildings yet.  They are driving up and down the streets of Sunnydale, waiting for at least one of you to show yourselves.

No.  Four demons step out of the shadows.  They are humaniod in shape, have chalk white skin, red hair, and red sore marks on their faces including their nose.  They kind of look like mutated killer clowns actually.

Re: Episode 2-7

"Disgusting!  Look at their faces!  We'll probably contract a disease just touching them!"

Annabelle aims a kick followed by a spin kick, at the demon coming towards her.  Under no circumstances was she touching them with her bare hands unless someone passed her some rubber gloves.

Her kicks missed the demon by a comfortable distance, but the demon failed to land a kick on her as well.

Fortunately, disease wasn't a thing Mike had to worry about, as he manages to grab his opponent and tosses him into the wild blue yonder.  The demon sailed through the air, landed on the hood of their police cruiser, then rolled off and hit the ground.

Thinking wistfully of his bow sat inside the bar, Aaron draws his sword in a smooth practiced motion. "They're Lei-Ach demons Annabelle." Holding the sword in both hands he swings twice at the nearest of the demons.

The demon dodges Aaron's sword strikes, but fails to land a blow on the watcher.

Meanwhile, Buffybot leaps in the air, attempting to do a spectacular jump kick on her demon, but misses, but so does he when she lands.

OCC: Back to the combat thread. I posted Buffybot's move to keep thing rolling. No damage to the heroes. One demon on the ground from Mike's throw. Except for Mike, this had been an offense bad, defense good round for the good guys.

Re: Episode 2-7

"They're what kind of demons Aaron?  Are they contagious?  Any special method needed to slay them?" Annabelle asked the watcher, glad to have something else to talk about besides her absymal attack a moment ago.

The Slayer then tried to fake out her foe, then strike him with her newly acquired knife from an unexpected direction. Her ploy is successful as the demon zigs when he should have zagged enabling the Slayer to stab him in the side. The demon growls in pain, then misses a kick aimed at Annabelle's head.

"Lei-Ach...."Sadly for her consulting a book about them in the middle of combat wasn't wise. She growls a bit they had to be demons since the invite rule didn't apply to them. At least the killing without a stake would be possible. She continues to engage her demonic dance partner with another jump kick attempt.  She misses again, but does the fist of the demon aimed at her head.

Mike tries to grab the downed demon and snap his neck...twice. Good thing he's prone...this sort of maneuver wasn't one he was used to, and he was hardly all that skillful about it.

CRACK!  The demon screams in pain at Mike's first twist.  CRACK!  He makes no sound this time. This demon's done.

Aaron growls in dissatisfaction at his pitiful attempts to strike the demon. "Not contagious. Standard hack and slash to kill." He punctuates the words hack and slash with swift double handed swings of his sword.

Swish! Swish!  Demon blood is on the pavement as both of the watcher's sword strikes connect the demon's midsection.  The Lei-Ach growls and lunges forward, grabbing Aaron by the neck.

OCC: Back to the combat thread.  Heroes have initiative. Mike's demon is dead, so he can go help someone else. No damage to the heroes.  Aaron is currently grappled by the neck by one demon. You can try a strength doubled roll to break free or try to attack again, if you do damage to the demon he'll let go.

Re: Episode 2-7

Why won't you. Just. Die?" Aaron tries to force the Lei'Ach demon from his throat with the point of his sword. Thrusting straight for where the creature's heart should be. Shuk! Shuk!  Aaron's sword plunges into the demon's heart twice.  He releases his grip on the watcher and steps back, looking like he's barely able to stand.

"Hack and slash.  Fabulous, I can do that. Still not touching them though.".  Annabelle said as she swung her knife at the demon again and missed.  Her attack left much to be desired, but she was nimble enough to dodge the demon's punch that was aimed at her head.

Mike proceeded to come up against Aaron's opponent from behind...and now that he's getting used to this idea, grabbing him around the neck, even as he'd grabbed Aaron. And just like his buddy, he proceeds to snap his neck. Twice, using the distraction from grappling another and coming up from behind to make it particularly effective.

CRACK! CRACK!  Mike's last twist makes a sickening crunch as the demon drops to the ground.  If Aaron's sword through the heart didn't finish him, this surely did.

Meanwhile, Buffybot tries to nail her opponent with two kicks and fails, but manages to evade his attack.

OCC: Back to the combat thread.  Two demons left, one engaging Annabelle, the other engaging the Bot.  No damage to the heroes this round.

Re: Episode 2-7

Annabelle was getting quite frustrated.  With both herself and this lowly demon who wasn't "following the script."
"I am the Slayer!  You will fall before me!" she screams as she nails a sweep kick that puts the demon on his back, followed by a knife stab on his downed body. The demon screamed in pain, but he still had some fight left in him.

In case the knife doesn't finish the poor demon off, Mike pounces on the poor demon as it tries to deal with Annabelle, and proves it's not a good night to have a neck, with a couple more break neck attempts on the demon. He correctly expected her sweep to work, and it was highly useful when it did. It took two more twists, but with the second twist, Mike heard that familiar sickening crunch indicating this demon was finished.

Buffybot managed to land a punch followed by a kick on the demon engaging her. The Lei-Ach demon then lunged forward with a hammer like fist that nailed the robot square in the face, sending her to the ground.  Buffybot's eyes were closed, she lay there unconcious, or shut down in her case.

Aaron nods his thanks to Micheal as the demon drops to the floor. Catching his breath a moment he sees that two of them are down. With Micheal helping Annabelle he moves to help the Buffybot. Two short stabs into the creatures back almost make him feel bad, he never had liked blindsiding a foe. Both stabs elicit a growl of pain from the demon who didn't see the watcher coming.

The demon turns to face Aaron, having lost all interest in the downed robot (she was no useful food source after all).  The demon steps closer to the watcher, about to strike.

OCC: One demon left, about to go after Aaron.  It's three against one. Buffybot is on the ground knocked out.

Re: Episode 2-7

Seeing his foe still upright Aaron curses. "Dammit!" He takes a step back and falls into a defensive posture, focusing on keeping the demon occupied for his allies to flank.  Wise move on the watcher's part as the demon lunge forward, Aaron being his prime target.

Mike's got some practice with the last few of these guys. And this time, though, the execution is a thing of beauty. The grab looks picture perfect, the neck snaps done with flawless grace. You could put this one on a how to snap necks for dummies video. CRACK!  CRACK!  The stops moving and grows limp in Michael's arms.

"Stay back Aaron!  Michael, you hit him on the left, I'll hit him on the right!"
Annabelle said, moving towards the last demon,  planning  to swing her knife to slash at him and follow with a spin kick.  But she halts, seeing that Michael's neck snap attack has finished him off.

OCC: Back to the episode thread.  This fight is over.  Buffybot is still unconscious.  All demons dead (but not dusted, you've got bodies to clean up.)

Re: Episode 2-7

Flashback to the night before......

"Closure."  A funny word.  I know what happened yet I can not leave it alone. As the lights of evening begin to outline the town against the evening sky the view is breath taking yet unsettling. despite what happened in the base I am strangely drawn back to this place. There is nothing here for me, yet here I stand.

Sunnydale.  The Hellmouth itself. It's been three years since I left. What has been going on here since I've been gone? My contacts had given me intell that indicated something or someone was going on here.

Strange reports pertaining to this area indeed. Perhaps there is something amiss in the town.  Where is the Slayer?  How did things get this out of control?  Where is everyone at? Well, one way to find out.

Taking a puff of his cig and rubbing his hand back through his black greasy shoulder length hair he stalked to the edge of what used to be the Lowell house.  Doesn't look good he thought to himself.

He infiltrated the old Initiative base through a secret passage to room 314. The closer he got to the inside of the base the more the memories came flooding back to him. Dr. Walsh, Zeke, Bobby, and even Riley.  The death, the destruction that day. Shake it off Lance, you son of a bitch, shake it off! He fought off the grisly visions and moved on.

Half way down the debris littered passage he was able to see through a destroyed portion of the venting he saw what appeared to be cops destroying what is left of the place.  Cops what would they be doing? Cops?? Wait those aren't cops.  They're vamps!! What the Hellmouth is going on?

Backtracking the rest of the way back out he slipped in and out of the shadows using every bit of his former training and his "Street Camo", that consisted of ripped jeans and a dark green army jacket with one of his Slayer t-shirts underneath, topped off with a pair of hiking boots spray painted black. Locating an abandoned house that was easily secured turned out to be easier than expected. It seemed no one was there. ANYWHERE!. He walked the perimeter of the 2 story family home and noticed the pretty green hedges that were starting to overgrow, Strange indeed. He made his way upstairs and barred the doors and windows and settled in. Lighting up one last smoke he reflected. I should be safe in here, at least until morning. In the daylight maybe I can get some answers. For now I need to rest.

With a smirk and an audible exhale of smoke "Goodnight, Good Old Sunnydale."

Re: Episode 2-7

Lance manages to get a good night sleep.  At the crack of sunrise, the former Initiative agent is already awake and walking the streets of Sunnydale, trying to find a person of the non-vamp variety who might give him some answers.

He's now walking in the seedy section of town, when he spots a teenage girl walking down the opposite side of the street.  She's definitely not a vamp, otherwise she couldn't be walking out in the sunlight.  She's carrying a cloth bag full of something, looks like she's off to do her laundry.  She stops walking, she's just spotted him too.

OCC: Yes, Lance has just spotted Annabelle on her way to find a laundrymat.

Annabelle freezes in her tracks as she sees a man coming down the opposite side of the street.  He's definitely not a vampire, or else the now risen sun would save her the trouble of slaying him.

Hopefully he wasn't a spy for the vampire constabulary, she wouldn't put it past them.

"Hello!  Over here!"she shouted as she started walking in his direction (albeit cautiously).  "Did you just arrive in Sunnydale?"

Annabelle takes a step back as the stranger lights up his cigarette.  This won't do at all.

"Yes the town is nearly deserted.  Your the only human I know of, besides my colleagues.

She grabs him by the wrist (and since she's the Slayer he'll be impressed by her grip) and pulls him back the way she came.  "Come along, I'll introduce you to everyone. We have a hideout" She circles around to the back entrance of The Fish Tank and takes him through the door.  If he's a spy for the vamp cops, they'll soon find out. She was going to tell him to put his cigarette out, but let it go for now.  There was no danger of him stinking up The Fish Tank any worse than it is.

"Look now everyone, I've brought back a human survivor.  That's Michael, that's Aaron, and that's Buffy. she said pointing around to everyone.

"And this is..............what's your name stranger?"

Lance followed the girl since he needs answers.  He notices she has a pretty good grip on him for such a small frame. As they get closer to the Fish Tank he sees the smoke seems to bother this lady.  Lance hotboxes another puff or two and then flicks the cig to the ground stomping it out with the tip of his boot. Upon entering the hideout he looks to the others as they are introduced and nods.

"Lance, Lance Chambers. He says confidently.  Got in last night looking for some old friends that seem to have up and left the area.  Sunnydales a bit different now it seems huh?"

Annabelle takes note of the military colors on Lance's clothes.  "Yes, you could call this civilian headquarters.  Until recently, we had help from a military man named Graham Miller. "Why, thank you!  I don't know how I could have left that part out!  I must be off my trolley!" the Slayer said to the robot before turning back to Lance.

"Lance, when we arrived at the Initiative base, we found it cleaned up, power on, and a skeleton crew of four agents house sitting it. They said the government decided not to shut it down completely.  Two of the four agents were traitors, they betrayed us and their two comrades to the vampire police which is how the vampires found us there. And well.......the two loyal agents were killed by the traitors.

She pauses a moment, then; "But I'm confident the traitors were given their final reward. Graham told the rest of us to go during our escape while he went back to take care of something important, that's how he got separated from us.

"Before you go back where? You're hardly equipped to deal with the vampire PD. And going out alone with the city as it is, would pretty much be a delayed suicide. One man alone isn't capable of dealing with the creatures of Sunnydale. So if you had plans to that effect I suggest you forget them now and work with us to find the root of the problems." The young man's manner was begining to grate on Aaron, though that could just be his general feelings about being in America. That Lance had been part of the Initiative was a slightly sore point, they shouldn't have been messing around with the occult. They hadn't had any idea of the forces they were dealing with.

Lance looks to Aaron not amused in the least. Giving him the smirkiest smug look he can "So your briefing is you got jack crap?"

Obviously this guy has no clue about infiltration and military spying techniques, most of which are missions for one.

With that Lance rolls his eyes and shake his head and steps outside. Lighting up one of his "special" cigs he takes a deep toke and and thinks to himself.

The town is deserted, there's a force field trapping us here and who knows what type of supplies are left here. What the hell was Graham up to and where is he? Something important huh? Could be anything. Guess I got to play nice since these guys maybe the only human contact I may have for quite a while.

He regroups and brushes his hair back out of his face and enters the Fish Tank.

"Ok good sir, we will do it your way.  What do we need to do?"

Annabelle interrupts before Aaron can respond.  "Lance, don't be too hard on Aaron.  He got here just a few hours ahead of you and  is only a couple of steps ahead of you as far as information is concerned.

She sits down in the nearest chair before continuing.  "We going to try to capture one lone vampire constable and interrogate him for information.  We have procured a police vehicle of our own and by listening to the police radio, ascertained that they were in force last night and trying to capture just one would be near impossible.

Annabelle then stands up again and begins to pace the floor.  "Supplies are relatively easy to come by in daylight.  With the vampires indoors and Sunnydale nearly deserted, we can easily procure what we need. Unlike the vampires we can move about freely under the sun except..... oh yes that topic hasn't come up yet has it?

Annabelle moves closer to Michael as if she's ready to stop Lance from attacking him.  "Michael is a vampire.  But he's a good vampire.  He has a soul, which separates him from the evil ones. I guess he's what you would call a Friendly Sub Terrestrial or FST.

Annabelle exhales loudly.  This wasn't the time for excessive explanations regarding ensouled vampires that Lance probably wouldn't comprehend anyway (and being British she had no idea what he was talking about with the USA Up All Night movie reference).

"Lance, can we just say Michael is a good vampire an leave it at that? You've been here for several minutes and he hasn't tried to eat you, that should be proof enough. Now let's turn our attention to other matters such as your sanctuary.  I recommend you stay here with us.  Strength in numbers after all.  We can't force you to stay, but if you go back to the abandoned house you stayed in last night, it will offer you no protection from demon intruders.  The invitation required rule will save you from surprise vampire attacks. But there are countless demon varieties that have no such limitation.
