Episode 2-9

Sunnydale City Hall:

All the way at the other end of the long table, sits the mayor of Sunnydale. He looks to be 40 to 50 years old, brown hair, and appears to be totally non-hostile.

"Well, hello.  I'm Patrick Rugby, mayor of Sunnydale.  You can just call me Bubba, everyone does." he says with a southern accent, possibly Georgian.

"You'll no longer need those." From the opposite side of the room, the mayor waves his hand.  All three of you hear a click sound as all three of your handcuffs unlock by themselves and drop to the floor.

"Now why don't you all have a seat." the mayor says.

Sunnydale tunnels:

Mike and Aaron suddenly hear a motor running overhead and the few rays of sun are blocked out.  Mike's vamp hearing picks the faint sound of a police radio overhead.  There's a car parked over the manhole above you and it's definitely not a tourist.  One minute later it moves on.  The Sunnydale vamp police are on the hunt for you two now that sunlight isn't a problem.  You're safe for now.  But for how long?

Annabelle sits down at the nearest seat at the opposite end of the conference table.  That wasn't peachy at all.  What kind of power does he possess? she thought after his demonstration with their handcuffs. She managed to maintain her composure as she sat down.

"Thank you Mr. Mayor.  I don't suppose we'll be having tea as well?"

Rubbing his wrists to be dramatic more than anything else "I'll stand thank you." he states matter of factly while eyeing the mayor.

City Hall:

"As you wish m'boy." the mayor says to Lance as he hits the button on his intercom.  "Doris, bring us some tea please.  The good British stuff."

The mayor switches off the intercom then looks back and forth between Annabelle and Lance.  And then he morphs into vamp vace. "We have a lot to talk about. I'll start by telling you about myself.  I'm a vampire. So's the chief and all his officers. Now your turn, why don't you start with telling me how many more of your friends are running around Sunndyale." the mayor says as he morphs back to human face.

Underground:

Michael and Aaron continue walking for several minutes, then come to a stop.  Mike picks up something coming their way with his vamp hearing.  He can make out some talking and the sound of a police radio responding.  Vamp cops are coming their way.  At least two.  Maybe more.

You both notice you're standing next to a ladder leading to a manhole cover.  Still no sunlight showing, cloud cover remains.

OCC: You two have three options; keep moving forward and engage the vamp cops, go back the other way down the tunnels and hope you don't run into something else, or climb up the ladder and get above ground.

The mayor raises an eyebrow.  "So, there's another underground Initiative base in Sunnydale?  How interesting. We took great effort to neutralize all military threats both above and below ground didn't we chief?

Just then, the door opens and Doris, the mayor's assistant enters.  She appears to be about fifty-something, not very threatning, and carrying a tray with a tea pot and cups.

A minute later, the vamp cop team comes into view of Michael and Aaron from their hiding spots.

There are three of them, one SWAT vamp with armored vest and helmet, about 6 foot, 6 inches tall. He's carrying an Initiative taser rifle in his hands.

The other two are regular cops carrying regular pistols. They're about two seconds away from spotting Mike and Aaron.

Re: Episode 2-9

Aaron quickly appraises their three foes. He didn't recognise what kind of weapon it is, but he judged the vampire with the rifle to be the biggest threat. Couching low he sends two arrows past Micheal, aiming for the vampire's crotch and hoping that the armour stopped at the waist.

"AAAAHH!!! AAAAAHHH!!!! What the **** was that ****??!!" Aaron's arrows find their marks as the big lead vamp drops to his knees, clutching his groin in pain.

Mike, attacking from stealth, was a thing of beauty. First, he stakes the two support vampires in the back, with effortless grace.  THOK! FOOM! THOK! FOOM!  Both quickly explode to dust.

Then, he grapples with the vampire that just got shot in the nuts twice, grabbing his neck from behind. An easy task since the vampire is on his knees clutching his groin in pain. Armor is powerful, but it doesn't save you from having your neck broken. Moreover, heavy armor will slow him down, making it more difficult for him to attack and defend, or break Mike's grapple. Taser Rifles aren't meant for behind the back shots to begin with.

The remaining vamp has dropped his rife, which you can now see is an Initiative taser rifle.  He has both hands on his wounded groin area.

OCC: Back to the combat thread. You can try to finish the last vamp off.  Or you can interrogate him for info (and should probably make an intimidation roll which would be willpower plus influence). If you want to take his police radio, make sure you do it before you dust him, otherwise it's dust too.

In reply to Director (msg # 15):

Lance watches the mayor approach and start moving his hand towards his eyes, The ole Jedi mind trick eh?  Luckily Lance was trained against such intrusions in his time in basic as that was standard operating procedure for many demons.

"Come on Mayor you should know that secret military groups never just up and disappear.

We have connections from coast to coast and across the world.  Did you think that the town of Sunnydale in its current state would slip past the powers that be and you would be free to run wild?

Yes, the Initiative under the guidance of Dr. Walsh is not how you know it anymore but that does not mean the research and testing went for nothing.

The government is very good at keeping secrets especially when they find a new weapon that works. Even someone as myself does not know much as we are on a need to know basis only.

However when the tests commence you will be the first to know."

Lance lets a a loud breath "You got a cig there chief?" he looks to the vamp cop.

Underground

Mike wasn't especially intimidating, and knew it, so he threw the radio away from the vamp so it wouldn't dust, and then snapped his neck. CRACK!  The vamp remained solid.  CRACK! That did it as the vamp exploded to dust in Mike's hands. Fortunately, he already dropped his taser rifle should Aaron decide to acquire it.

Two seconds later, you hear a message from the SWAT vamp's radio that Micheal removed before the vamp dusted.

"Team 3, this is Team 1, come in." Three second pause.  "Team 2, this is Team 1.  Team 3 is not responding, move to their last reported position. You come in from the one side, we're coming from the other."

Another voice comes over the radio.  "Roger that Team 1, we're on the way.  I hope the enemy is in the mode for a vamp cop sandwich for lunch."

OCC: All present vamps dusted. But more on the way.  If you two are feeling lucky, you can take on six vamp cops (three coming from each side and will arrive at the same time). If you want to retreat, you can climb the ladder to the manhole cover and get above ground to avoid a fight. Still cloudy, no sunlight threat for Mike.

Annabelle picks up her tea cup and pauses before drinking.  I'm sure it's safe to drink.  Anyone with the mayor's kind of power wouldn't have to resort to poison tea.

Annabelle takes a sip, then sits her cup down while glancing over at Lance.  From what her watcher told her, vampires with hypnosis were difficult to resist, especially for normal humans. Lance was either strong willed, had a secret ability, or just got lucky on that attempt.

"That is good tea. So Mr. Mayor, would you like to look into my eyes" Annabelle said in a challenging tone.  With his failure to get what he wanted from Lance, he would surely try it on her next.  Best to get on with it.

But the big SWAT vamp next to her had other ideas as he reaches out and grabs her right arm.  "Where do you think you're going kid?" he says as he tries for a punch to her stomach, but the Slayer manages to dodge that attack.

Lance follows the slayers lead, "Right behind you!"

Lance however makes it out the door.  One of the vamps with a taser takes aim, then hesitates, apparently not chancing a hit on his fellow vamp that currently has Annabelle.

"Let him go!  Keeping the Slayer is priority!" the mayor shouts.

Lance goes barrelling down the hallway, turns the corner, and comes to a halt as Aaron and Michael rush up to meet him.

"I got it...." She dashes towards the vamp now holding Annabelle. But she never makes it as the second SWAT vamp holding a taser rifle blasts her in the chest.
But the robot absorbs the blast and keeps coming.

Hopefully this will buy everyone else time. "I know a couple of people that need to work on diplomacy skills." The SWAT vamp dodged her takedown attempt as he maintained his hold on the slayer.

"You two watch the entrance.  I think we're going to have company soon." the chief shouts at the two vamp with taser rifles.

Lance sees the the guys ahead of him as he rushed forward.  After two or three steps he realizes the others didn't follow.  He wonders if he should keep going then he notices the rifle that Aaron has and keeps going. "Mind if I borrow that Aaron?"

"We're going in. Yeah, Aaron, give him the taser. Lance, aim for where the armor isn't, or you'll waste the shot.

In case you're wondering why we have to go back, vampires get much, much stronger for feeding off the blood of a Slayer. We probably shouldn't give them the opportunity.

And we can't forsake Annabelle in any event."

He's less worried about the bot, but he's gotta get Annabelle out of there.

Aaron quickly pulls the sling over his shoulder and tosses the taser rifle to Lance. "Take it. No good to me." Then his hand is back on the sting of his bow ready to take his shot.

"And now for my Walker, Texas Ranger impression" said the SWAT vamp holding Annabelle.  He aimed an impressive high kick at Buffybot and missed due to the robot's near flawless dodge.

"I'll be leaving now, if I may just borrow this." Annabelle said, reaching with her free arm to grab the baton off the SWAT vamp's belt but failed as he avoided her grab attempt.  "You don't want to do that kid, taking an officer's equipment is a jailable offense."

Mike ran in...alert to possible attacks, which was good because one of the SWAT vamps was waiting by the door and tried to club Mike with butt of his taser rifle as he ran in.  Mike avoid the attack...barely, he felt a breeze from the swing.

He then grabbed for the SWAT vamp pestering Annabelle and successfully tossed him into the wild blue yonder or rather the other side of the room (freeing Annabelle from his grasp in the process) as he crashed into the book case and hit the floor.

"Annabelle, MOVE!"

He could tell these guys were very old and strong for lieutenants. In other places, they probably would've been the masters.

Lance rushed in as well taking aim with the taser at the Chief's two legs where the swat armor would be of no use. "Hey Chief, next time I ask for a smoke I expect you to comply!"

But the Initiative agent never made it as one the other SWAT vamps by the door, dropped his own taser rifle and nailed Lance with a slam tackle.  Lance doesn't think he's ever been hit that hard as he hits the floor (but stil manages to grip his taser rifle).

Meanwhile, the SWAT vamp who was kicked in the groin by Annabelle climbs back to his feet.  "I think I'm okay now guys, and ready for some payback."

The mayor remains seated so far, with the chief standing next to him.  That haven't gotten involved.  Yet.

The chief shouts at Lance " Thanks kid! We let you go so you could lead your friends back to us, that's fast service! Get them boys! Don't let anyone escape!"

The chief adds "And boys, no snacking!  Especially on the Slayer!"

OCC: Back to the combat thread.  Bad guys have initiative again.  Lance takes 21 points of damage from the slam tackle and will begin the round on the floor at-4 penalty on defense, but he still has a hold on his taser rifle. Aaron didn't make an atack this round, we'll say he was two steps behind Mike and Lance and just made it into the room and will attack this round.

Re: Episode 2-9

Mike accurately assesses the information of the encounter, and decides now isn't a good time for a showdown.

"Sorry we can't stay. You should RSVP first next time."

Mike pulls out some smokebombs. While most of the people in the room aren't going to cough, it is going to obscure vision. He ushers the other heroes out the door, then throws the book case down between them and the bad guys. He sets it on fire, creating even more smoke, and adds some holy water in case the bad guys try to climb over.

"Let's go!"

Time to get out of dodge.

You don't have to tell me twice! Annabelle shouted as she ran towards the exit, pausing just long enough to help Lance up from his prone position.

"Follow me!" she shouted, planning to lead everyone out the way she was brought in, where hopefully they would still find the SWAT van with the keys in the ignition.

Re: Episode 2-9

Aaron doesn't even have a chance to step into the room before Mike is almost literally dragging the others out and blocking the path through the door. He keeps pace with the others as they move towards the exit a wary eye on the corridor behind them in case of pursuit. "I do so love it when we improvise." His tone dry as the desert, it is impossible to tell whether the Watcher has actually made a joke or not.

Lance is more embarrassed than anything that his shot didn't even get a chance but realizes his snarky one liners and fighting spirit will have to wait for another day.  "Thanks." he says sheepishly to the ladies as they help him up.

"Damn them all!  Call the fire department before City Hall burns down!"
shouts the mayor.

The chief screams after the departing heroes; "You think you can escape the Sunnydale police?!
We still outnumber you 22 to 5!!!  You can't win!!"

Out in the hallways:

The heroes successfully make it out the back entrance and find the SWAT van still parked in the back with the keys in the ignition.

Realizing this IS a Swat vehicle...

"That's fine. Lance, come on back here. SWAT vehicles are named such cause they have toys in back. Many such toys go boom."

Aaron hits the gas pedal and takes off in the SWAT van.

Two minutes later, the SWAT van passes three fire trucks on the road, going the opposite way towards city hall, but no other police vehicles on the road so far.

Meanwhile the threesome in back of the van finds a rack full of police riles (16 points bullet damage), police pistols (12 points of bullet damage) and police batons (mini-club does 3 X strength damage, made of wood, can be carved into a stake).

In back of The Fish Tank:

Aaron hits the brakes as he parks the SWAT van behind The Fish Tank, next to the police cruiser and the military vehicle.  The group managed to make it back to their hideout before the vamps cops could get on their trail.

Annabelle climbs out of the passenger seat and heads for the back of the SWAT van.

Stepping inside with the three in the back, she looks over the weapons to choose from.

She turns her nose up at the pistols and rifles, but grabs two batons.  "These will come in handy for vamp fighting, especially armored SWAT vamps."

Re: Episode 2-9

Moments later, everyone heads back inside through the back entrance of The Fish Tank, carrying whatever weapons they wished to grab from the SWAT van.

You make it to the main room when you realize you're not alone.  Three Turok-Hans are there, having wandered in during your absence.  They were no doubt attracted by the lingering scent of human blood in the room and now they've found some fresh nourishment.

The three Turoks rush forward.
