Re: Declaration of Rebellion
"You can be sure that if they went to this much effort to secure the sewers, there'll be at least as much security on and in the float itself," Mits speculates.
The lock popped, and the rout schedule double-checked, the lid is opened to the shadowy underside of the colossal cargo repulsar platform upon which the lead float rides. The fancy skirt around the perimeter blocks the view of the noisy crowd gathered at the sides... Cordoned off at sufficient distance to allow six rows of troopers on either side room to march.
But, for all the noise, one would have to shout to be noticed by the soldiers. At it's ponderous size and speed, the float will be a few minutes before it is done passing over the sewer access. There's access panels aplenty for mechanics to do maintenance, most of which can be opened by the same enormous impact wrench. (If the heroes had one, it would certainly be loud enough to draw attention.)
"Huh. Looks I was wrong and they figured they didn't need locks on the underside."
Mits offers the "monkey wrench" to Matt. It's a high-yield ion ordinance about the size and shape of a gaming laptop. A note taped to it reads, "For maximum effect, place inside outer plating. Press red button to start 5 minute timer."
