Chapter one: Premonitions

The world is changed.  I feel it in the water.  I feel it in the earth.  I smell it in the air.  Time nears the end.  We stand on the very brink of the unknown, and soon... nothing will be the same.

Several centuries ago, huge airships ascended into the sky and several colonies were established on the moon, civilization's crowning achievement.  Over time, loyalty to the kingdoms of our world waned and the moon colonies became independent nations.  These nations united under one banner and an empire emerged.

A massive project to reduce the cost of launching trade airships back to our world resulted in a city sized double-sided ramp curving up from the surface and pointed at the land below.  Over time, "The Knife" grew as generations of shipping companies added to it to reduce costs more and more.  Today, it is about the size of a country and casts enough of a shadow that it can be used as a global sundial at night.

Rumors abound about the tranquil paradise that is the Moon Empire Celestia.  Long life, extended youth, perpetual luxury, no crime or strife, and so on.  What is known is that it is very wealthy and very hard for outsiders to enter.  Also that it is barren and anything living up there is borrowed from down here.

So why have the ships stopped flying?  Why has there been no word from Celestia?  Its as though the world is holding it's breath.  But for what?  The stars themselves seem to be hiding some terrible truth about to be made known.

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

Heart Forest - a vast wood sacred to the Elves and many other races.  Only a few decades ago, war threatened to defile this mystical place, maybe destroy it entirely, but King Josef Pish of the nearby human Kingdom of Veyer was able to defend the land and is now the official protector of the forest.

You all have traveled to this woods for various reasons, perhaps an assassin is meeting a secret contact here, perhaps an invoker child just wandered this way, perhaps a warden is here on summons for the spirits of the woods itself.  Your reasons are your own, and you likely traveled alone.

Suddenly, the sound of a woman's scream pierces the tranquility of the forest!  You rush to see what may be amiss!  At a clearing in the trees is a horrific sight!  Three hobgoblins are cheering as three wolves are tearing a teenage human girl to pieces!

Roll initiatives!
3 gray wolves (level 2 skirmisher)
2 hobgoblin archers (level 3 artillery)
1 hobgoblin warcaster (level 3 controller)

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

Alexis hurries to the scene and sees the horror. Her eyes burn with rage and her anger runs deep in the roots of the nearby plantlife. This area of the forest is alive with Alexis' fury!

Initiatives:

Enemies: 13 + 7(Hob archer) = 20
Enemies: 13 + 5(warcaster) = 18
Enemies: 13 + 5(wolves) = 18
Mialee: 15 + 2 = 17
Alexis: 5 + 1 = 6

I don't know if I will get a surprise round, so rolled stealth checks on Alexis and Mialee in hopes of pulling it off. Rolled an 8 and a 5. Highly doubt Alexis pulled it off (I don't know what her stealth skill is as I don't have access to her character sheet on this computer)

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

Resting under a tall oak, a young girl is awoken by the sound of a piercing scream, startled at first visions of elves and fairy's leave her head from the vivid wonderful dream that she was having. She slowly looks to the east to see try to catch a glimpse of the source of the sound. She struggled and strained to see what was a head of her but she was having no such luck and putting it all together. She slowly begins to pick herself off the ground and gathered her things.

As she was reaching for her staff, dark visions fill her head, visions of death and destruction. She could see a woman standing before a creature of the night, readied to attack and slay her. A few other dark energies loomed by but was just a mask of black shade. She opened her eyes and quickly grabbed her staff. Something was up and she had to find out what was going on. She quickly sets off towards the direction of the scream.

The young girl approaches a clearing and sees a horrific show, a young human girl being chomped on by some wolves. Anger fills her heart, she moves behind a thick tree and waits, taking in her surroundings, she watches.

One of the archers spots Alexis and fires an arrow at her!  The arrow is deflected by a tree limb!  The next fires another arrow, and the exact same thing happens!  Coincidence?  Perhaps.

Archer 1 move from f4 to i4.  Longbow vs Alexis.  Rolled a 4.  Archer 2 longbow vs Alexis, Rolled a 4!

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

The young girl peeks her head out from behind the tree, up ahead she can see combat taking place in the clearing. Nothing like a little blood in the morning. She smiles and chants under her breath. Deeply meditating and getting ready for the upcoming encounter she closes here eyes and prays to the raven queen, seeking guidance, and the ability to smite down her enemies. Not knowing what she was getting into or even if these people she would be soon be fighting with would be useful, she closed her eyes bowed her head and got ready for the the fight.

After a moment,

The young girl came running out from behind the tree, hands up in the air. She stops a few clicks away from the battle, she closes her eyes and calls forth the power of the raven queen. She went into a trance-like energy surged through her veins. She could feel the power she pointed her finger at one of the wolves

"By the mighty power of the queen, I compel you!!"

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

Mialee sees others in danger and sees Alexis being ravaged. She makes haste. A wolf spirit materialized next to Trinity and howls. Trinity feels slightly better. Meanwhile, a spiritual dryad seems to descend on Alexis, causing the redhead's wounds to close some before the dryad vanishes.

The faintest appearance of a bear shape made of lightning materializes around Alexis and the others, the wolf in front of her getting hit by the rolling thunder. Mialee says nothing, but her actions speak for her. It is ON!

(Minor: Call Spirit Companion at I14)
(Minor: Healing Spirit on Alexis. D6 heal on Trinity.)
 Alexis healed for: 7+4 = 11
 Trinity healed for: 2
(Standard: Thunder Bear's Warding v Wolf 1. Miss(10), Miss(6), Hit(23)!)
 dmg: 9
 Alexis gains 3 temp HP
Everyone gains resist 3 until the end of Mialee's next turn.

Discussed Hero Points with Chris. This is a great example of how important they are. Alexis is our defender and she's almost dead before even getting to act. Thunder Bear's Warding is meant to help with preventing further ouch. But it needs to hit. Missed. Used Elven Accuracy, missed worse. Use hero point, hit.

Alexis HP: 6 + 11 = 17
Trinity HP: 15 + 2 = 17
Wolf 1 HP: 38 - 9 = 29

(Move: Stand from prone.)
(Standard: Wildblood Frenzy v Wolf 1. Hit(16)! Miss(12), Miss(8), Hit(19)!)

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

He had simply been wandering around the woods, looking for something of value to sell off to make a quick gold or two when he had heard the scream, he carefully headed in that direction, making sure to stay out of sight of whatever may been causing trouble.

As he approached the clearing, he could see two archers and he realized that they had no idea he was there, which worked to his advantage, considering his skills.  Stepping forward, shadows began to seep out from his body slowly until what looked like a zone of complete darkness seemed to shroud the area so thick that it seemed like nothing could be seen inside.

Suddenly, a pair of arms appear from the zone with a garrote in hand, aiming to snatch up the little goblin.

WHY COULDN'T HAVE HAD ROLLS LIKE THIS LAST NIGHT?!!

Move: J1 - J3
Minor: Cloud of Darkness at J2 (got okay from Chris for this post)
Standard: Garrote Strangle (+8 vs. Reflex; roll of 15; total 23 is hit)

I hates the dice roller on Rpol, so I use real dice.

Damage: 2d4 (4+2) plus Dex Mod Damage (+5) Adding Attack Finesse Damage.  1d8 (1) Total 12.

The target is grabbed, cannot speak and takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls against me.

Re: Chapter one: Premonitions

She was heading for a town to pick up a new book, having finished hers already.  She did so enjoy the well written stories of her favorite author and she was very much looking forward to reading the next book she would acquire.  The scream brought her out of her trance and she realized that she had almost walked into the middle of a battlefield.  Seeing the wolves tearing the girl up was rather frightening at first, but she couldn't allow it to continue either.

Stepping out from around the corner, she noticed the cloud of pure shadows with arms poking out, appearing to be strangling one of the archers.

I cannot allow what you are doing to continue, evil goblins.  I curse you both.

Move: O6-N4
Minor: Warlock's Curse on Archer 2
Standard: Spiteful Glamor on Archer 1: (+5 vs. Will; Roll of 10; total 15 is hit)

Damage: 1d12 since the target is at full HP (Rolled a friggin 2, like I figured...; 7 damage total.)

"What the hells?!" the first archer gasps at the horrific sight of disembodied arms in a dark cloud strangling his ally, "ARG!"

Glamorized by a woman warlock!  There's little worse.  Like, maybe, being strangled by disembodied arms in a dark cloud.

"We're surrounded, boss!"

He fires an arrow at Lana that whizzes past her face!

"GACK!" the second archer chokes as it's struggles against the disembodied arms strangling it!

With a tremendous lurch, it breaks free, tumbles forward, spins around, and fires into the dark cloud of strangling arms!
