Re: Awful April Fools Colour Scheme

So in msg #398 we've had three rounds of combat without the players getting to state what their PCs would do?
Isn't player agency a thing in this campaign?

Edit: And the thread says that we should ask the GM to create another thread to replace this one.

In reply to Rena Shae Karis (msg # 980):

Player agency is it, OK well how many years do you want to negotiate??

There's got to be a union somewhere screaming and this DM is chuckling.

But really if you wish for me to alter anything, say the word and I'll sseeeee what I can do.

Yea, I'll create a new OOC thread.

Re: Awful April Fools Colour Scheme

Not sure where rena is...but i will offer this,

Slow games die. There is a  game i am in that was one of my closest friends in PBP, that is  as old  as  mine, but barely has  4000 posts...part..big part of the reason, is a game that  we were in on a site that died  , went to another  board ( i tried to get  them to come here..i hate the site they are on!! I play there , only because of  my 'legacy ' and  that's  it.. some folks threads  go faster. mostly because  some players   have  3-4, or more characters.

all games  require  activity, both , form player and GMs. My game, i answer posts  as soon as i am able, and constantly look  for  side things and such to keep the game moving.... those who let us know they cannot  post..or have  to have slow post rate, we drag along  and they can Jump in.

A GM  can move the game, rather well  , by saying  what PCs  are goign to do, if there is no input, or, for that matter, to push the story along.

Table  top, it may take minutes, but   Minutes in Table top, is  days  in PBP, Unless the players  are really active.

In reply to Kree Quickshadow (msg # 982):
Sure, I understand slow poating effects. I'm happy to support 1/day posting. My point was that Rena, upon seeing incoming foes, moved to one side for line of sight, intending to use elven Quickdraw Shot (as flagged up in msg #396) and then paused for GM post to ask for actions. Next GM post was about a fortnight later, which is fine, RL stuff happens, but it ran my PC for me for 3 riounds of combat which was then over. From being a participant I involuntarily became an observer. By all means for GM to say "I'll NPC you if you don't post within 2 (or whatever) days" is fine, but this definitely was not that. It was "foes approach but don't worry I'll tell you what you did."

In reply to Rena Shae Karis (msg # 983):

Sorry Rena, I was trying to pump life back into the game after a rough R/L to game start stop  for me and posted this encounter through that is a lead on for your group.

Rena, for your group I humbly will work with each characters actions going forward to give you all time to post individual actions as you wished.

Yes, there are two active groups in this world/setting but hopefully neither willl encounter each other BUT you do affect the world as we know it sooo....

Game on.

Diana, would you be going to work? I've noted how much of a wonder woman you are 😉

Enjoy and get some ideas of how we can catch the slavers master, I'm guessing the DM has one ready 😮

Nope vacation.

Flying first class from san Francisco to Orlando, with a layover in Charlotte.

then flying back first class, with another stop over in Charlotte.

Staying at the Carribean Beach Resort for a whole week.  Figured you would need a week, with the three Disney Parks, 2 Water parks, and 2 Universal Parks to visit.  :)

Got a pre-paid package, where Disney Park tickets, with Genie pass, are all paid for.

I've been bouncing off the walls since December.  :):)

Corrupted the Ponter Sisters song "I'm So Excited"  To "I'm So Excited I'm going to Disneyworld!"  Like the guys at the end of the Super Bowl do.

Anyway, Yesterday was my sister Tracie's Birthday, so this is something of a late Happy Birthday.  After dealing with my other sister, Trisha's health crisis, I figured we needed a break.

(She's the one who has Frontal Lobe Dementia. The Doctors give her 2 to 6 years.)

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

Something that has never made any sense, why do you need charisma to use magic?

I mean, I can understand intelligence or wisdom, that makes perfect sense.  But charisma?

Was the problem that it was a dead stat, and nobody really gave a damn about it?

When I think Charisma I think presence, and personality.  That has zero to do with casting spells.

So, what am I missing?

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

Charisma  is/should be  about interactions. NPCs  react in different ways to different types.

Some of  my 'Krees   and Ivyians"  had  decent charisma, so ...FIRST..meetigns  with them  when by the NPCs  reactions, but, as the grew to know them.. they may dislike them more, or like them more.

Take  Football, I  thoroughly  dislike   The ravens QB... but the  Ravens  fans  love him the higher your charisma,  the  more  chances  folks will react to it... a   smiling Bard m who sings  great songs , and gets  people dancing   will have  higher -good reactions. But  the  folks who do not like  the  singing or dancing, will react  more negatively .

Now? I  hardly ever  played Mage types , My brother loved  it..so he  had the Mage and the cleric  , I had  the warriors  and the rogues /

For me, Chrisma  for spell casting, might  have to do  we  how  well the Deities  that have  charge over the spells  you use, will receive  that person. BUT..that should be ongoing as well. a cleric  who fails to   pray, and  does not  aid the people under their umbrella, would cause the  god  to act negatively.

For Kree  m he doesn't have spells , he isn't a cleric, But he praises   both  goddesses of Luck.. he  knows,  Bad luck causing  harm to enemies, is  as important to Good luck  aiding  he and his  friends.. So I use that as  a mere  RP thing, to  make him more solid  as a  character, along with other  quirks he has.

as a GM..i think that stat was just used  for the whole  'NPC reaction thing" and after that they tried to find more uses  for it.

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

Charisma for magic in 5th ed is about deals with Patrons, how well you can butter them up as it were, so Sorcerers and their Demons/Dragons/Celestials etc. Warlocks the Fae Queens/Kings/Fiends/Celestials again.

Okay, but that is still an irrelevant stat.

How often does one commune with their deity in game?  And does it really matter?

Like I said, I just don't get it.

They took an irrelevant stat and boosted it up.

Each spell is requested from that Patron, who can without it at any time. You get the spell cast by sweet talking the Patron as you cast the spell.

So, if I have a 13 charisma, there's a chance I won't get the spell?

That really sucks.

I thinks it how powerful err your increase in casting gift you gain from Chr.

A low Chr means your like  hey stupid give me thst spell power to cast it  and you only get a  phift here vs high Chr would be  oh mighty powerful grant me your powers   sure heres your spell powered up.

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

Charisma is one of those stats what I always blew off.  Take a 12-13, maybe 14 if you got really lucky and and an extra high dice role.  Usually, never went about 12-13.

I mean, when in a game goes Charisma really come up?  Going to the local supply store and what's the clerk's reaction to you?

Shrug.

Okay, but it's still a waste of space stat.  Maybe if you are a Paladin, I could see high charisma.

Or, a Bard, I can see needing a high charisma.

For a Sorceress?  For a Wizard?  For a fighter, or even a rogue?

Nope, sorry just don't see it.

Like I said, the PTB looked at Charisma and said "Damn that's a stat nobody gives a shit about, let's make it mean something."

Now, all of a sudden, it's related to you and your deity.  Really?

I thought the only ones who prayed for spells were priests.

Wizards read from books, and Sorcerers get their naturally, so who are they praying to?  Not their deity.  They don't need to.

Paladin, Priest, Bard, you have a great argument, can see it all day long.  Makes complete sense.  Never played one of those characters but can certainly understand the need.

Wizard, Sorceror?  Nope, sorry, just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  Call me hard headed.

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

Which could be why Diana is not the best or willing Sorvcerer due to her low Chr score   shrug?

Oh for Rogues it could be good to have a solid chr cause you may need it to sweet talk your way out of something or into something.

I will say in one of my campaigns i am in no one is good but no one is evil, we are all nuetral types and a low Chr character alwasy gets the brunt or not best reaction to a lot of stuff.  it is a tuff game but really fun.  No I am not the lowest Chr one.

Re: GMs Birthday Soon-ish

When running games as GM, I always use the Reaction Rolls for creatures, encounters, shopping less so but still do.

Wis and Int are more like Dump Stats if not a caster in 2nd Ed.

Not many people do the above, nor have hirelings, yet it is written int the game. My last Friday Night DnD game character had a hireling to carry his pack for him and look after horses which dungeon delving, character was a Bard, even the GM forgot.
