It is (by the way) August the 31st in the afternoon.

Time will progress on Sunday evening to the evening of August the 31st.

Just so you guys have an idea of about when to begin wrapping up Diagon Alley.

It is now the morning of The 1st, and people are showing up to King's cross station.

Will be using the 'Platform 9 3/4' thread for both the station and the express.

This thread will go for approximately one week as I want to get one more bump of the advert up and give people time to apply before we get to Hogwarts and I close the game for this year.

And...........  it's the evening of September the First.

The Hogwarts Express is arriving at the station in Hogsmeade.  Please use the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry thread.  We will use this thread for everything up through the Sorting.

We will spend a small amount of time in the boats then onto the sorting ceremony.  We should be into the first day of classes by Monday.

Re: Time changes and absences
So, in a little bit the next post in the Hogwarts thread from Walden should be along (I am time delaying posts so I can sleep in tomorrow).  When it does, Cordelia/Lady Red will begin the sorting ceremony shortly.

Now, it'd be pretty damned impractical to post in alphabetical order so just go ahead and post your sorting then take a seat at your table.  However, I want you to put some time and effort into your sorting posts.  I want them to reveal something about your characters' insides.  Just take your time and make it a doozy of a post.

Sometime tomorrow evening, after the majority of sorting posts are done, I will post Snape's speech opening the feast.  If you are just joining us, feel free to post a 'catch up post' to bring you to teh sorting ceremony, then a sorting post.  Above all, I want the sorting post to be separate as I plan on saving them and archiving them.

The feast shall proceed for the rest of the weekend.

It is now The morning of Monday September the third 2018.

Find your way to the Great Hall for breakfast, where you will receive you schedules from you heads of house.

When Professor Clearwater posts in Potions class that is the cue to head that way.

Absence Notice:  I will be visiting family from December 20-31.  I'll probably be able to post fairly regularly during the trip, but it may not be every day.  For some reason, my parents and my sister's children think I should be paying attention to them rather than to the computer.  =)

Because it is Christmas/new year...  the bell for the current classes will ring Friday-ish and that will lead us into your lunch/free time...  I'm going to let that run us through the weekend and probably a chunk of next week.  It seems like a good place to pause for people to be absent for holidays and such, but leave room to be doing things for those of you who are around.

I will be around, so anyone wanting to work on some character development threads lemme know and we can work somethign out.

Right right, finally the first day is done.  We will be skipping a little bit to the following Thursday, in game, Sunday afternoon, IRL.  As soon as you see the posts in class like the Potions class started, then move to the correct class.  I hope to get us past Thursday pretty quick like and then into the meat of the story.  I just want you to meet all you Profs, as that is important...

Transfiguration for Claws
Herbology for Huffs (and your first interaction with the Gryffs)

I will be setting up a 'in the mean time' thread.  Any time we have skipped a chunk of time, feel free to post here about what you did...  in the mean time!

For those who are absentee, just jump in like you had been there all along, and feel free to write a blurb about your character in the new thread.  Perhaps, you ate something disagreeable, or were feel very back of the class for a bit.

Right, I am going to wrap up Flying Lessons tonight and skip over Astronomy as I am itching to get into the story.  You guys have been roleplaying well and I lost about as many players as I thought I might.  For now, those active are active...  I won't delete the other characters or even NPC them until I have to, but I am considering them absentee/silent drop at this point.  Tonight, when Flying lesson close, Post in the meant time posts...

We will skipping forward almost a month+ into the first week of October.  If people want I will allow time to mingle in the mean time.

Also, I am going to post for the teachers(kinda) in the meantime about information you have learned in classes which you can add to you CS as you please.  As for extracurricular activities, they will be allowed to hearts' content unless I slap your wrist feel free to describe clubs and other activities.

Ravenclaws, feel free to RP out the 9th as you are doing for a little bit, but move on quickly.  We need to include our hearty Hufflepuffs in the game.

That being said, I will be PMing a of the 9th event to the Huffs as well.  Play it out in PM or one of the public rooms, but keep in mind it precedes the events in transfiguration class.

But, don't also forget to write what else you are doing as the time passes.  As far as student activities and events go most anything within reason is possible.  I will be posting the first and second quidditch matches at some point, feel free to react to them.

Midterms 2019

Charms- For charms students will be expected to get at least an A on the Levitation Charm or receive remedial classes.

Transfiguration- You will be expected to do magic detection.

DADA- Strangely, Professor Anderson is giving a written midterm testing the students logical abilities.  He expects no certain grade.

Herbology- This midterm students will be expected to identify one dozen magical plants covered that term.  They will be among mundane plants that look the same.

Potions- Get an A on an Unsubstantiation Potion or take remedial classes.

Astronomy- Locate and label the nine major planets on a star chart.

Flying- This is actually the final for the class as lesson will not continue in the Spring.  Students will be expected to get off the ground and fl through a preset, and easy, course.

HoM- A written exam on Roman and Egyptian history.

After that, respond to the finals below...  I will be posting a summary in the of the year end events in the History Lesson.  Give me a post 'In The Mean Time' about year end.  Then, a post in 'Vacations' about your summers.  I would love some super detail there.  That will catch us up to the Diagon Alley thread.

Right, right.  Lets skip ah3ead to get the game moving a bit.  We are moving to Halloween night.  There was a feast and everything that day and you are all tucked into bed without incident, surprisingly.

I want each of you to post in the 'In the mean time...' of course, you got two months of time to write.  Feel free to write any club details you would like.  IF you want the input of a professor on something, just send a PM to me and Lady Red and one of us will adjudicate it.

Classes: Herbology is detailing dangerous carnivorous plants.  There is a live Devil's Snare as example.  Charms works on jinxes like the Sneezing charm which becomes prank of the month.  Transfiguration works on texture changes, hard to soft, fuzzy to scaly and suchlike.  DADA...  well, he reads his book to you.  In potions you work on cures for poisons and burn remedies.

Socially: Claire is not picked on as much as last year.  However, the Gryffindors have proved to be rather physical this ear in their tolerance of Slytherin pranks and name calling.  The Snakes give it up in favor of teasing mud-bloods and the poor in Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.  The Sneezing Jinx and Body Locks are fired off several times a day.

Professor Howell continues to expect but be surprised by Raveclaw academics and flabbergasted that Hufflepuffs know which end of a sword is pointy.

Someone mentioned this, so I thought I'd respond.  First years will be doing pretty much what last year's crop of firsties did for this period of time.  Not finding any posts that talks about it though, right now.  Will look more when I get home, unless someone else can remember where it is and reference before then.

The big change is DADA, in which you are pretty much reading Mr. Malfoy's book (he offers to sign your copy Lloyd) and transfiguration, the subject is the same but the professor more amiable, though very surprised by any over bright Hufflepuffs.

Professor Howell would definitely console you on having dead parents, "Terrible news, old top." though he would seem, but never say, that he was sorrier to hear your mother was a squib.  "Unfortunate lot, that sort.  Understandable that she'd want to live in the Colonies."

As for the long standing question of the commonwealth.  Relations are strained but most of the countries had little they could say about the matter.  Some of the bigger voices, Canada, Australia, India, made a hullabaloo, but the politics were still up in the air when Lady Red took over and she lets them go their own way as long as they observe all the old hands off fussiness and niceties..

And what would lady red do if the larger parts of the commonwealth decided that they didn't want to be part of the commonwealth?  The only way great Britain keeps them now is because they want to be kept.

In another game I was in the question of what a squib was came up. The boy in question was the child of a pure blood squib and his blood was counted as pure blood while the boy's mother was a muggle born, therefore the character was a half blood and not a mudblood. Having a squib as a parent was still something to be consoled over, but he was still counted as pureblood for blood status, since the squib had.not been disowned.

This one's just a guess (correct me if I'm wrong) but I get the feeling that those who are likely to be overly legalistic about heritage are likely to err on the side of lower rather than higher "blood-purity".  'Course, in the case of Lloyd, he's likely not to care or see what the fuss is about...so long as nobody's crowding those with the "wrong background" into concentration camps or any such thing.

So what would lady red do if Australia or Canada decided it were no longer part of the commonwealth?  I don't see how she could keep them if they wanted to go.   I'll play it like they still  are part, but I really can't see that as anything other than Australia's choice, not yours, your highness.

So she keeps them under the imperious curse.  I wonder if there isn't an under ground in most of those countries that are anti LAdy red, since the masquerade is down and all that.  Unless wizards are unquestionably in charge in all those places, and that could be problematic, since at least Canada and Australia have some sort of democracy in place and there really aren't enough wizards if it comes down to it.

There most certainly is.  There is an underground in England, sooooo...  Check out the Lee Jordan post in the History.  Voldemort was expanding his war abroad, while Lady Red lets the commonwealth be, as long as they toe the line.  And, yeah, many of the governments in the larger nations are puppets of hers.  While she is absolute monarch in England, she remains mostly a figurehead (openly) in the commonwealth countries.

Re: Time changes and absences
[Nov 23rd, 2019]

Alright, that scene is done.  So, time to move on.  We are stopping again on Saturday, Nov. 23.  This is the day of the Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff Quidditch match.

In the mean time...
Classes continue for first years-  For the first years, the most exciting stuff is the harvesting of snapdragon peas in the first year garden.  Many a student has their fingertips nipped by the feisty little vegetables because to pick the pods one must first rub under the chin of the guardian pod.  Charms is also fun as you are working on Wingardium Levioso now and, having finished basic theory work, you are trying to turn slivers of wood into Bobbie Pins.

DADA proceeds to be boring for everyone until Professor Malfoy hangs a picture of the dark lord himself up in class to instruct on some of the more common features of a dark wizard.  He also hangs pictures of Rodolpho Lestrange, Fenrir Greyback, Peter Pettigrew, and alludes to many of the features of Lady Red.  Risquee stuff.

Classes continue for second years- In potions, you learn how to make a sleeping elixir with a variable timed sleep, anywhere from 5 hours to 5 years, as you adjust just one ingredient, Doxie Blood, in amount.  In Charms, you begin to learn a few defensive charms such as Protego and a Charm that allows you to use your wand to parry spells like it were a sword, Declino.

Socially- nothing much occurs.  Lysandra and her cronies continue to be brats and seem to especially love picking on Claire whenever they can separate her from the crowd.  None of the Huflepuffs can explain the spite.  For his part, Miles begins to prove himself a complete dink as well.  Pulling stupid pranks and, now that he has a few spells under his belt, flinging jinxes at others.  He is a fan of the Locomotor Mortis spell.

A few days before the big game, James has this spell cast upon him as he descends some stairs.  He falls badly and spends two days in the infirmary with a broken arm and leg.  He can't say he saw Miles anywhere nearby though.

Of course, the group can and probably does spend some more time on the flying snakes problem.

Re: Time changes and absences
[Dec. 13th, 2019]

We are moving forward again.

It is Friday the 13th of December around 9am.  Today is the day that students board the train to go home.  You can stay over at Hogwarts if you have permission from parents.  As Always, post a nice summary in the "In the mean time..." and you can, of course, finish up some things real quick if you need to, but make them super quick.

The rest of the first semester passes rapidly with only a few events to mark it as odd.

Midterms were given this week, much to the anguish of students, and much of the prior two weeks were devoted to furious studying.

In Charms, first years are expected to be able to produce the Lumos and Nox charm while second years are expected to be able to deflect a spell.  Professor Prewett one by one casts a leg locker curse at each student.

In Herbology, second years must tame a Dandelion and get it to take a sunflower seed from your hand.  The feat only requires patience and calm, the react poorly to aggression and raised voices.

First years must produce an Icing potion, something good for applying cold to a injury.  The potion produces an aqua colored goo that feels like silk as is sticky to the touch.  It melts after an hour then turns to mist.

Transfiguration wants a god looking needle from first years, from a matchstick of course, and a paper mache pot must be turned into a clay pot by second years.

Fallout from James' scuffle with Rolf is brutal for a week or two, but dies down.  Still, there is a small war between Hufflepuffs and Slytherins escalating in the end of November until Professors Bones and Lestrange hold a meeting and discuss it.  Bones is reasonable, charming, and convincing while Lestange is terrifying and cold.  Between them, the war dies down.  The stray bodybind and leglocker are still flung and a new fad of jinx arise: The Veneficae Naribus.  It causes people's nose to grow long, crooked, and puts a wart on the end of it.

The buzz ins school though, is that on the 8th, just that Monday, Drackina Janiewicz was found with Gladius Bowling at the top of the Astronomy tower in an embrace and crying.  They were both under the effects of a Lapis Caput curse, which caused them to go deaf and blind.  They had been up there all night, afraid to move.  It was soon a major talking point that they had been snogging and maybe more.  Ravenclaws accused Hufflepuffs of sabotaging their team and Hufflepuffs said some unflattering things about Drakina.

It seemed to get lost as to why an advanced dark curse had been used on the pair.

More information for the time change...

For all: Lysandra and her cronies are far more active of late and it seems to be due to Lysandra being far touchier and cranky than normal.  SHe always has bags under her eyes and snaps at anyone that is not higher status than her.  She is the terror of first years, though the Malfoy twins do their best to mitigate her influence, or at least her reflection on their house.

Also, Mr. Davien is known to be more cracking down on pranks involving his duties, at least those that make him have to clean up more.

[January, 2020]

After a long, exhausting, and, mostly, enjoyable holiday, the day comes for the students to return to Hogwarts and their studies.  The older students settle down to studies for various end of terms tests while most everyone else gears up for the brunt of the Quidditch season.

We are jumping to Monday February the third, of 2020.  Feel free to make mean time posts for the first month back at school.  Responses to the points below might get responses from me on them.

It is twelve twenty in the afternoon.

Okay, due to something that was revealed by our glorious GM- Snape, there will be a quick stap back to the beginning of the new term.  Shortly after coming back to school all PCs are being asked (by Lloyd, Kiri, Athene, and Amanda) to go to the gardens (which is located in the Courtyard thread).  Oh and Robert, you are asked to specifically NOT bring Corina with you.

Re: Time changes and absences
[Aftermath of Feb 2nd, 2020]

In the immediate aftermath of the events in the Chamber of Secrets, none of the other students know much more than the pariahs have cost them points again and gotten themselves some serious detentions.  Myrtle's bathroom is a mess and many students sneak in to see the damage, but there are wards that prevent snooping downstairs and myrtle is insufferable.  It is when Rita Skeeter's article comes out that this all switches overnight.  OF course, that leaves about a month of time when the crew is once again scorned like lepers.

On march the fifth, the first clue to the changes are strange looks the kids get as they come into the Great Hall that morning.  The world at large may not know which kids were involved, but the kids know.  What other group of kids got detentions, lost points, and had several members laid up for several days?  Short of making this worse, the pariahs became instant celebrities.  They had, for all intents and purposes, gotten rid of one of the least favorite teachers in the school.  Granted, Headmaster Snape was subbing for DADA and Dark Arts and was temporary head of Slytherin house, which no one was ecstatic about, but the kids were pestered with questions about the events until the tenth when Snape made an announcement at breakfast that if he so much as heard the words 'Chamber of Secrets' or fond out a student had spoken of it outside school, they would seriously regret it, no one thought he was bluffing.  It will get out eventually, look for another Prophet post when it does.

One group of kids was not a fan of the group, though. Lysandra Lestrange, Miles Davis and their cronies were suddenly quite the outsiders.  The war for power in Slytherin, without Bellatrix on Lysandra's side, went spontaneously and decidedly against her.  She might as well have been in her own house now and the Slytherins were NOT kind about the process or quite about letting people know that she was on the outs.  The group kept to themselves and were insular and xenophobic.  Lysandra only had looks of hatred for the group and nothing but nastiness for most of them.

Other than this, classes proceeded as normal, second years had their advising meetings with the head of house about electives and pamphlets on them were handed out.  They had until three weeks before end of term to make their decisions and were advised to choose carefully, an elective could be dropped but not started after the beginning two weeks of third year.

Beginning on March the 31st, Lysandra was not seen for a full week.  When she came back she was a haunted thing, pale and withdrawn.  Rumors spread that she was now in the custody of her paternal grandparents.

Some PMs

Those who were injured are all in the infirmary for a few days then sent on your way.  Except Athene, who is kept coming back once a week until the middle of March and Claire who Madame Point wants to keep an eye on, as your injuries were quite severe and she is afraid of trauma.

DADA changes overnight under Snape's control.  It goes from a reading of Malfoy's book to a crash course on identifying several cruses, hexes, and jinxes.  You are not expected to be able to cast them, just know them on sight (first and second years).  Second years are taught, definitely, how to cast Expelliarmus.

Finals: First years, there is a post somewhere with the finals from last year, those are yours.  Postt 33 in this thread

Charms- Successfully cast Sonorus and Quietus as well as the Bluebell Flames charm.

Transfiguration- Turn and Acorn into a thimble.  Take a written exam where you must name and describe one of the five exceptions to Gump's law.

DADA- Identify several spells cast on the fly and silently by Headmaster Snape.  Cast Expelliarmus.

Herbology- Harvest a peck of Gunpowder peppers (peppers you must sing a lullaby to while picking or they explode.  They aren't super dangerous, but the powder from an explosion is about the equivalent of getting maced.)

Potions- Identify five items (a bezoar, Whistlegrass, Willow Bark, Blackbeetle Eyes, and troll bile), then prepare the Ulceriative Remedium these ingredients go into, (this was the lesson from April).

Astronomy- Identify, chart, and name ten constellations named for animals (humans do NOT count) and write five inches on one of them.

HoM- Exhaustive multiple choice test on the Renaissance, including a section of famous paintings by wizarding artists you must name, date, and identify the artist for.

Alright, I will be making the 'Closing Ceremony' post once this is resolved.  All characters will receive the FIVE points to add to their characters.  Also, remember to select spells learned for your year.  I would also like people to suggest some potions they might know now.  6-7 for second years and about 8 for first years, they study simpler potions and get through them faster.  Once I have lists we'll work with them like we d spells.  Also, as a note here, remember, take any electives you want next year thirdies, but I need everyone in at least one of Magical Languages or Muggle Studies.  The Quiditch post will be up soon as I can write it letting people know who won the cup.

More PMs

Last: a general prompt, what, if anything, do people say about the specifics that occurred in the CoS?

Re: Time changes and absences
I will not be addressing certain things: the snake, Ally, and who actually cursed the children.  I have answers to all these questions, but you don't know any of them and some of them are plot points for next year.  So, be patient and keep on as you have been most excellently doing.

After the out busrt during the study group on April 20, the story blazed through the school like a fire and it was unsurprising when it was leaked to the outside.  Kids wrote home about it, parents grew concerned, and Rita Skeeter wrote an blazing op.ed.  It gets out and Amanda is punished thrice for it.  The first is a scathing letter from her parents, the second is sitting another month of detentions with Snape himself , and lastly by a visit of her parents to the school

On an interesting note: the situation appears to not have entered the muggle magazines excepting that the family of the Prime Minister was in mourning over the death of his father.  No details are made available, but there is minor coverage of the family along these lines for a few weeks and some muggles try to spy on the funeral very unsuccessfully.  It is reported that Lady Red herself attends the funeral.  The spying reporters are never heard from again-also noted.

Amanda is pulled from Astronomy lab one day in late April by Professor Aquila.

The situation in Slytherin gets worse before it gets better.  Lysandra and her crew were never really liked, but the twins are irate over her mother's murder of their grandfather.  Still, the bullying is soon obvious and several steps are taken to resolve it.  Amanda and friends' attempts to talk to the twins and Miles results in Miles drawing even further into Lysandra's camp while the twins realize what they have been doing.  The physical bullying stops but the group is still actively ostracized.  Lysandra is not happy that she was saved by anyone, the twins told her about it.  She is infuriated.

Peeves soon starts to annoy the caretaker with a new and colorful array of songs, including one that Lloyd does not remember teaching him, and the caretaker begins to become suspicious of the children.  He watches the poltergeist closely when he interacts with the children from around the end of march onwards.

On April the 30th, a centaur is seen to visit the school and spends a pair of hours locked away in the Great hall with select members of the staff: Snape, Aquila, Brown, Bones, Longbottom, Travers, Point, and Weasley are all there.

After April the 20th, the relationship between Claire and Lysandra will shift:

Finally, the day of the closing ceremony arrives and all the children are congregated in the Great Hall for the last meal before leaving on the train.  The normal array of food is on the tables and students are dressed in their best.  The Headmaster stand to give a speech.  His demeanor is grave and dark.  "It has been a bleak year.  The loss of Lucius Malfoy is a blow to wizarding folk the world round and he will be missed.  I encourage all of you to write our condolences to him and for some of you to send more than that.  As to the other events... I recommend putting them behind us, all of us." He glanced here to Claire then Lysandra and finally Kiri.  "On a lighter note, The Hufflepuffs have taken the Quidditch cup.  Congratulations!  However, the Slytherins have squeaked them out for the House Cup.  A few too many losses of points this year for the Hufflepuffs.  So..." He motioned his wand and the Hall was decked in green and Silver for a second year.  "Alright, enough of speeches.  Let the fest begin and have a lovely summer.  I will see you in brighter time this coming fall."

Snape does not stay, but leaves and takes James with him as he has business in London and can't afford to pick him up later.

Two weeks after Amanda is given detention, Snape finds out that it was that leaked the story to Rita herself.  A seventh year named Connor Daupin is expelled a month before his graduation as a result of the investigation and his two friends are given a month's detentions each.

Re: Time changes and absences

The project to enchant the communication devices makes progress, but does not end in success.  The Charms, Potions, and Transfigurations needed aren't all beyond the children, but the combination of them usually is.  The project, however, is encouraged by Amanda's parent who see her interest in the topic as very beneficial.  To the point where Mr. Davis designs a couple of the trips around the project and talks to Aberforth, Cynthia's mum, and Claire's mum about making sure the girls all get to go.  The first is a trip into London where Mr. Davis has arranged for the girls to visit with a goblin craftsman about the art of crafting magical items.  The goblin and Mr. Davis seem to know each other well and respect each other.  The second trip is a weekend trip across the channel to Paris.  Mrs. Davis accompanies them and they are taken to a French Wandmaker's shop on day one and a Swiss wizard who makes watches the second day.  Again, enchantment and magical crafting theory is the crux of the trip.  The Swiss man even has a device in his shop that does pretty nearly what the girls want AND tells time!  It costs ten galleons a piece-Mrs. Davis buys Amanda one to study but cant justify buying more.

Lloyd finds that the time at the Malfoys continues to be a great experience.  At the end of July, seeing the children's interest in self defense, the whole family takes a week long trip to Brazil where Mr. Malfoy arranges for the children to receive a crash course from a expert in Brazilian Jiujitsu.  Some muggle named Royce Gracie.  The return trip swings through New York, where the children are treated to several demonstrations in MMA, KArate, Tae Kwon Do, Jit Kune Do, and Kung Fu while Draco Malfoy talks with some American Wizards in Boston.  They arrive back just in time for it to be time to visit Diagon Alley again, having received their letters while in New York.

Nikolous has a summer of busy work in his father's store.

Athene settles into life in Hogsmeade and receives letters nearly constantly in the first two months, but they begins to slow but never stop toward the end of summer.  Mehen loves living in a wizard's village, though, as people are a bit more tolerant of snake familiars.  She becomes a regular and known face at the shop she works part time at.

Re: Time changes and absences
The day in Diagon slowly winds down and the sky begins to darken as parents scurry their children back in doors or far away.  Nervous glances and furtive movement speaks to the parents worry while the children fight and whine about being forced away from friends and fun, oblivious to the danger.  None to few children are hushed overharshly by parents who cast eyes to Ollivander's.

Well before darkness rolls in, the Cowlings will make to depart and the Smiths are only a tiny bit more liberal with their departures.  Amanda's guardian, Mrs. Jones, is more or less in line with the Cowlings and even offers to share a ride, "safety in numbers, right?"

Clean up the ends of the day at Diagon folks, then move to the train thread.

Re: Time changes and absences
Alright, time for a jump forward...

The first two months of school slip past in a blur of fairly humdrum activity. The new third years struggle to get used to the additional burdens of their courseloads, especially those few insane enough to load themselves up with more than the recommended amount.

Arithmancy begins with a section on the platonic nature of numbers and the writings of Pythagorus that most muggles are unaware of, not knowing that the ancient greek mathematician was also a master arithmancer and wizard. Each of the ten basic numbers is given time in class so that an understanding of thier properties is thoroughly understood. PRofessor Aquila is much like he is as a Head of House, demanding, fair, and brilliant. He demonstrates, easily, a deep and fundamental understanding of numbers, their mystical properties, and how the universe operates according to those properties. He seems to have a special fondness for ancient greek wizardry and the wizarding practices of the Islamic rennaissance of the 12-1600s.

Muggle Studies continues into veins along the lines of the material and structural theories which are part of enchanting muggle devices, but that is only Tuesdays. Each Thursday is dedicated to a practicum. For the first month, this mens learning a potion which provides electrical energy for muggle electronic devices as well as dissecting a Walkman, a toaster, and a VCR. Professor Bluebottle also allows students, if they wish, to bring in muggle devices and a small segemetn at the beginning of the class can be dedicated to that item, if she approves. She continues to be a very warm, jovial, and inviting professor.

Ancient Runes with Prof. Bones, while not an easy subject for all, is a more relaxed class as far as their teacher is concerned.   Cordelia is very passionate about her subject and exceedingly patient with the slower students.  During the first two weeks she touched base with the various runic languages and their modern magical uses; namely enchantments, wardings, and even divination (although she quite naturally says that unless one has a natural talent for it, none of them would be studying that aspect of runes and then only in the Divination class).  Because of it's linguist closeness to English's Anglo-Saxon roots, they will mainly be focusing on the Proto-Norse Futhark runes, but that such ancient alphabets as the Egyptian hieroglyphs, the Brahmi scripts, and even the Mayan hieroglyphs can also be used magically with sufficient dedication and practice.  However, they will mainly be focusing on Futhark at least for the first three years of the class.  If they choose to  continue taking the course at the N.E.W.T. level, they can then choose to expand to one of the other languages.

CoMC quickly becomes a class favorite, as it is every year, as Charlie Weasley is a good natured sort and the class involves meeting a lot of strange creatures. First on the list this year are Pegasi. The students spend a month and a half tending to a small herd of four mares that the Professor is nursing back to health for the ministry after an accident with some muggle powerlines in Devon.

Magical Languages quickly proves to be the opposite in popularity. If Professor Aquila is demanding, Professor LeFey is impossible if you are not Slytherin or, at least, from a prominent wizarding family. She is always surprised when certain types know anything, and is condescendingly appreciative of their efforts. When she assigns essays, which are her favorite thing to do, she always intimates that those less capable can talk to her about reduced inches. The class also starts off with some heavy theory. The first three chapters of the book are read in two weeks and are on the magical connections between phonemes and magical power. While the idea of power words is debunked, the idea that certain thoughts and the words associated have an ability to manipulate magical forces. She assigns four essay from the three chapters, each 12", and has the students begin learning the Greek alphabet.

The other normal classes are their normal selves. DADA only gets scarier and scarier and the new Professor tells some gruesome stories from her years as an active member of the Aurors and uses magical slide shows as visual aids. At least one student is rumored to have run from the room sick. Charms, Potions, and Herbology are all their regular selves, thought the spells, potions, and plants dealt with seem to be getting more and more dangerous when messed up. Students in Herbology are extracting the Essence of Hemlock for instance, while a potion called Snapdragon is learned that instantly makes one warm like hot cider had been poured into the veins. It is used by Medi-wizards in cases of hypothermia. Each student is expected to brew a palatable version of the potion, and try it out. History of Magic continues to bore and Transfiguration gets harder... again.. again! The professor has the students working hard at the theory for working transfiguration on simple animals. By the end of the year, they are warned, they will be expected to turn a spider into a pincushion.

Socially, things seem calm... until the beginning of October, when a counselor appears at the school. First, many of the young witches and wizards try to figure out what such a person does, and when it is revealed that it is a fancy muggle name for a mind witch, they all pretend they do not need the services, though all students are scheduled on mandatory visit, during which they are encouraged to make subsequent appointments if they desire.  THe woman is a short, plump witch with a pleasant manner, simpering manners, and a tendency to find just the right question to convince someone that she knows Leligemency, which she insists in every meeting that she does not.

The Pariahs are not so much Pariahs right now, though CLaire is given a wide berth and a few people are seen to be reading the paper with articles in it about her father. One issue even has a rather nasty, scathing biography of her mother written by Rita Skeeter.

The aurors have made their presence felt. Randomly, they will enter classrooms to observe. THought they never disrupt the class at all, their presence is like a vacuum in many of the classes. Professors Cleearwater, Prewett, Binns, LeFey, Prince, and Aquila seem unfazed, but Professor Longbottom seems nervous and accidentally poisons himself a little bit one day. They are also seem to stalk the hallways. Strangely, the nice looking Tallowhide and Riotously colored Thrussington are the worst for popping up out of thin air while Aurors Scrubb and Sekndenberg are rarely seen at all, but get along with students well when they are. THe small auror is jovial and comradely while the tall dark one possess a strange form of sympathy and even has been rumored to have helped out a student in a DADA class by answering a question for him out of the blue. Kiri's bodyguard is often around her as well, and even, yes, offers to help her with her studying if needed, seeing as he is very bored with this detail, and is known to have struck up a relationship with the local houseelves.

It is now, if I have my memory working right, Saturday, October the 17th of 2020. IF I am wrong the assistant Gm will correct this. This is the first weekend students will be allowed to go into Hogsmeade.

Re: Time changes and absences
Shiuld have posted earlier, but I am in New Mexico at a conference, so It will be a bit longer before I can update again. I am keeping tabs and have thoughts, just no time to post the last week+ due to preparing for this event.

I may, maybe, be able to post this evening, depending on how sightseeing goes.

Absence notice:  I will be out of town for much, if not all, of the month of July.  My Mother is going in for hip replacement surgery and I will be heading home to assist with the recovery.  I should still have access to a computer and sufficient time to post reasonably often.  But, it’s hard to predict how everything will go.

Re: Time changes and absences
The day in Hogsmeade wraps up uneventfully. The students all get most of what they wanted to purchase, some mischief of more innocent varieties is had, and tea and crackers are consumed everywhere.

It is a bit like herding cats, but the chaperones get all the children back together and escort them back to the castle. Claire's Da is right next to her, as he had been the rest of the day, even having gotten, after a moment's hesitation, an invite to tea with the Davises. The adults separated off, unfortunately for Athene's plan, since the Davises wanted to give the kids some time to themselves. Miss Davis does listen to a little bit about Athene's career day plan and promises to write her about it.

After that, time passes and Halloween is upon the students. What with all the hullabaloo and escaped prisoners, someone thinks it a good idea to put on a costume ball for the students for Halloween. Students are told about it when they arrive back from Hogsmeade. Headmaster Snape meats them at the door with Professors Prewett, Clearwater, and Bluebottle. Snape glances at the three several times as he announces hesitantly, "It has been brought to my attention that a bit of... festival might be in order to lighten certain..." He glances at Claire then Athene, "Moods... There it is then. Students can, at their own expense and means, procure a costume, with approval of their heads of house of course, and the event will begin at 9pm sharp All Hallow's Eve. Good day."

Of course, the ball is the talk of tinsel town for the next several days as students make an epic decision of the costumes they will wear and then, eventually, complain of the approval process nixing several of the more gory and risque costumes. There is also considerable complaint as the first and second years student are to be dismissed from the ball at midnight while older students are allowed to stay until 2 if they wish. It all works out smoothly in the end.

In classes, the ball becomes a focus as well. Professor Clearwater teaches the students a simple potion that would remove stains from even the most delicate of materials, professor Prewett teaches his class various mending charms as well as how to produce music from wands. Professor Bluebottle teaches a simple enchantment, Poliunt Lima, which makes anything shiny even shinier and clear, she demonstrates on a ruby than becomes truly brilliant.

Completely unforseen are the Emergency Lessons offered by professors LeFey and Prince on the inestimable art of dance. Five crash lessons each for the girls and boys are given. Many of the older boys attend theirs, as well as James, while the girls lessons are even more popular. Robert is bugged by James to come along. Robert is also bugged by Corinna to go, as she plans "very much to dance with someone and I expect that to be you and for you to be accomplished."

Most parents are happy to buy or rent costumes for people.

Thursday, oct 31, 2020, no classes are held in the afternoon so students can prepare. Supper is at seven then the Great Hall is cleared and decorations go up. The doors open promptly at nine to a purple, gold, and green wonderland of scarecrow waiters, golden wandering chairs, a lengthy and high end buffet, and the watchful eyes of the four aurors, Claire's Da, and the heads of houses, the official chaperones. Everyone knows that the groundskeeper and Caretaker along with other teachers are in the halls. It might be a night of "festival" but security is high.

Re: Time changes and absences
To answer a couple of questions and things I think may have been missed:

Lysandra, as well as her cronies, too, were sent away from the ball. Snape might be biased, but he isn't that biased.
Rolf never did come back to the dance. You will elarn later that he had fled to the Slytherin common house, which is where Lysandra ended up after the shenanigans. Of course, he could not come back.

Now, for some updates t teh storyline:

The next day, Rolf strays not from Lysandra's side. Regulus an Thomas are there as well and keep an eye on him. Once, they catch him staring at Athene in the Great Hall(it is Sunday so no classes) and he jumps as Lysandra pinches him and hits him in the shoulder.

Rumors fly about Ahene's room beign searched. Most think it is because of Lysandra's accusation. Several students sit a bit furher away from her and eye her hair.

Rumors also fly about Claire's costume, that it wazs a high end piece of deseigner fashion. Several people that ahd ignored her previously now tried to gainehr favor. It is let slip that people now know that her mother is a world class tailor.

If Robert and Corinna weren't a known couple before, they are now. It is general knowledge that Robert the Brave snogged his Princess. Yes, those are the phrases used. Corinna blushes about it but only seems more intent to kiss Robert and hold his hand in public.

Re: Time changes and absences
GM Notes since it has been a while: The various characters out there have various pieces of the puzzle in their possession:

Mr. Androus has the clues to the prevalence of one Maggie Parker in the second Wizarding war.

Miss Davis has some more clues in the form of Malificent's Diary and a certain Maggie Parker's role as an expert in Mistform travel. She might have more clues than she knows.

There was an ensorcelled racoon on Hogwarts' grounds.

A dire warning was given to Robert and James to deliver to Athene.

I might be missing something. Spilled some coffee on my notebook and a section of my notes were ruined. Still, I know what the picture I am creating amounts to. Lets move things forward.

The events surrounding the first year's trips to Hogsmeade were more or less uneventful to most students: the Pariahs are managing to prove they are anything but regular. Athene is still highly suspected by many students due to her room being searched. Rumors do seem to get out of the mysterious figure that was seen during the visit. School goes on; life is predictable for a few weeks as the end of the semester arrives and midterms are upon everyone.

As long as you all agree, come up with reasonable midterms for your classes other than the ones listed below.

In Magical Languages, Professor Le Fey assigns a massive essay, 24", to all of her classes on a subject of their choosing. Except, a very select few students are singled out, right in class, and given their topics. Nikolous Androus is assigned to write upon the spell Omichli Taxidevo, a spell of Greek origins that allows a person to travel and accelerated pace through mists and fogs. Claire is assigned to research a very basic incantation, Wingardium Leviosa, and to compare it to the related spell in Confucian, Feng Yunxing*.

In Muggle Studies, the test is to produce the potion that allows muggle devices an electrical current in magical areas.

Care of Magical Creatures has a two part test, a 10" essay on Quezalcoatl and to be able to call and feed Lepoptra, a type of flying American jackrabbit.

In Potions, the third years are called in and have to go down a line of five potions and identify each. They are allowed one try at each potion with three total retries. They had been focusing on identification methods a lot this year. Second years had to produce a potion they were taught that semester, Mutatis Mixa. A simple potion that reduces the stability of somethings form to augment transfiguration spells' duration.

Of course, after midterms was winter break and those kids who had not filled out forms to stay the break went home. Post Holiday posts guys. Work with the amterials you have right now, and the clues. We need some time to glue things together. I will be responding to individuals' endeavors.

* Feng Yunxing means Wind Running in Mandarin. It's a spell that allows the type of running like in Martial Arts movies. The incantation must, actually, be cast silently for it to work. Speaking it aloud seems to "disturb the winds" by the theory. It also only works on living things.

Re: Time changes and absences
Time flows and, soon enough, the students make the trip back to their school. The aurors are still present and more than a few students speak about their homes being searched. The school begins to feel insular and cold as students talk about seeing the aurors everywhere, "I swear, man, they must be using some kind of copycat spell to be everywhere at once!" "Yeah, I swear I saw the tall, creepy one down South corridor, but when I turned the corner into the trophy hall, BAM! there he was looking all creepy and dark!"

The school begins to feel as if it is on lockdown and students spend most of their time in the dorms, classrooms, Great Hall, or Library. The professors, too, get a bit jumpy in most cases. Professor Longbottom actually chases Auror Thrussington out of his class after she snorted one too many times at his instructions on how to handle NImble Weed, a type of Dandelion that actually dodged when students try to pick it (going so far as to temporarily uproot itself). Longbottom was trying to teach students how to approach calmly while humming a folk tune, THrussington was heard to mumble "chase them until they pass out." True, the dandelions could only persist a minute or so out of the soil, but Longbottom insisted it was bad for them and the resulting potions. Clearwater coldly ignored any auror in her classes like most professors. THe notable exceptions were Professors Prince, Le Fey, and Bluebottle.

Thrussington, again, was making harrumphing noises and muttering corrections when Bluebottle slammed down the book she was reading from on toasters and demanded that the interrupting witch come forward and teach the class if she dared. The Auror smugly did so and Bluebottle sat in back making snarky comments until the Auror frowned darkly, reached for her robes, then stalked form the class, Bluebottle only raised an eyebrow and picked up her lesson. Auror Scrub wasn't really offending, but a week after the incident in Bluebottle's class, Le Fey began class by warning Scrub that if ANYONE interrupted her lessons, they would soon learn what it was like to lack 3 or 4 senses. Scrub swallowed and LE Fey was called in for a conversation with the Headmaster and Auror Tallowhide. Prince was the one, strangely, that actually got violent first. Of course, Auror Thrussington was making her standard comments in the back of Prince's class on Dementors when PRince simply whipped out her wand, flicked it, and the Auror's mouth was sealed shut with twine. It looked painful and Thrussington looked in high dudgeon. PRince was called into a meeting just as the new year moved in into February and the next visit to Hogsmeade. Because of the incident in DADA, and other places with sudents since the aurors were targets of pranks by a few brave souls, the trip was canceled and the entire student body was expected to attend a meeting that afternoon in the Great Hall where the Aurors were expected to give a lecture on courteous and respectful behavior.

Alright, get to classes and catch up to the meeting in the Great Hall. That is our next event. I know we are going slow recently, but we are still going! My goal of all 7 years is still in place.

Re: Time changes and absences
Third Year story elements of note:

Note the post two above this one for some clues. Many of the weaving I did for this year has been stretched out and left to founder quite a bit, so I am not going to bother going over those. they can dry up and wither in the background or... I might resurrect them latter. Amanda asked me to write up something reminding everyone and maybe nudging them about important clues. One of the many plot goals of year three is to, like in the books, begin to tie in the larger world and the past wizarding wars into our plot in several ways. I am trying to make sure all the characters have an element of the world in their minds/pockets to bring to the table.

So:
Ovidian Schwartzwald IV was a wizard from Hogawrts who graduated in the late seventies, specializes in memory charms and north African magical serpents. He has disappeared from history it seems. I forget why he was looked for, but he is important.

Maggie Parker participated in and has some very important intelligence from the first wizarding war and is, apparently an expert in mistform travel spells. Her daughter Charlene and her were also important parts of the second wizarding war. The clues to who, what, and why are scattered about the threads.

Amanda had the journal of Malificent which revealed a few bits and pieces of information about Maggie as well as being a bit of a plot thread for latter development. Professor Prince loaned it to her to use in her report on Mist Form travel and Amanda returned the journal when she turned in the make-up report.   Since the journal was written in French, Amanda asked Serena Black help her translate it and in addition to learning about Mist Form travel they got to read about a few other hexes and curses and Malificent’s version of history.

Kiri received Charlene Parker’s Diary at Christmas and it’s where she found the picture of Ovidian Schwartzwald IV.  Based on some research that Kiri did, she thought that Ovidian was Claire’s actual grandfather.  The diary was in code and she had been having problems decoding it.  Amanda either has or promised to do her best to learn a copying spell and make a copy of the journal for Kiri so that Claire can have the original. Kiri also has a better sense of the government moving behind the scenes to put pressure on certain areas of the world. Amanda is dealing with this in her family as well as Nik with his father's shop and Visa. Remind yourselves of what happened along these lines to your family as it might matter over the summer break or sooner. Happily, I am fine with Amanda using a copying spell on the journal to have an original and copy.

Of course, Rudolphus Lestrange has been revealed as Claire's real father and that he loved and tried to protect Charlene Parker. The Parker curse seems to have played out again with Charlene's death and life after Hogwarts. Rudolphus escaped from Azkhaban, it seems, to protect Claire, though the world at large thinks he wants to kill her. Bellatrix definitely wants to kill her and s out and about as well.

There is still the elf from first year to track. Don't forget the raccoon! That was meant to be important. I recommend it. Serena Black might be an important source of information about Schwartzwald but no one followed his background long enough to arrive at a reason to ask her. It's in the name... Amanda also checked with Professor Weasley about the raccoon and learned that it had been ensorcelled with a Sensibus Remotum which allowed someone to see through its eyes, but there was no tracking who had cast the spell without their wand. He told me that he had reported this event to the Headmaster.

We have four aurors, the mind witch, and Arthur new in the "cast" this year. Think about all the information given about each of the aurors and how much you should trust them. Think about Arthur as well...

Here are some elements from the cannon third book that I did not use but seem important, Remus Lupin was a werewolf, Animagi exist, The Shrieking Shack was important and the passage under the Willow. There were hints in the third book as to what state Voldemort existed in, that he still existed was established already. Wizarding families started to question the safety of their children at Hogwarts and the government began to makes its move against the independent Order of the Phoenix. I ain't saying the Order still exists though...

This information is a bit scattered sometimes and people need to put bits together to make something out of this. There are also bits and pieces that are meant for next year's plot as well as further down. I will be putting together a spell list for this year and potions list as well as something else for the end of this year as well. This should amount to all the important plot elements from this year, more or less.

Re: Time changes and absences
I have copied Amanda's Notes and annotated them here...

Amanda Davis:
Notes from the Daily Prophet Thread relating to Year 3:

1.   On March 31, 2020, Bellatrix Lestrange was sentenced to the Dementor’s Kiss, which was to be applied on July 31.

2.  On June 30, Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange escaped from Azkhaban.  An unnamed squib was found in Bellatrix’s cell and Rodolphus was discovered to be missing a short time later.

3.  An incident happened at Ollivander’s shop and he was escorted away to be questioned by the aurors.  His daughter and head apprentice said “a student had touched a thing he shouldn't have, that her father had left out when he shouldn't have, and that a lot of shouldn't haves turned into quite a bit of bother and misplaced merchandise.”  Ollivander is back at his shop and things are back to normal.

Speculation:  The misplaced merchandise (a wand or wands) was stolen by one of the Lestranges during the distraction caused by a student touching something he shouldn’t have.

4.  Claire is revealed to the readers of the Daily Prophet as the illegitimate child of Rodolphus Lestrange.  Charlene Parker is accused of being the parish harlot/working girl.  However, it is also noted that Charlene Parker had excellent marks right up until her seventh year.

5.  Shortly after her escape, Bellatrix Lestrange was spotted in France in the company of Sirius Noir.   According to the History thread, Sirius Noir is the father of Serena Black (3rd year Ravenclaw).  The Noir family (descended from the disowned Phineas Black) has been pressing their claims to the Black name and fortunes.    (Unfortunately Amanda wasn’t paying attention when she read the article and missed that.)There is something that stretches my whole story here if you look.

6.  In a letter to the editor, Malificent Quigley, an Obliviator, revealed that Maggie and Charlene Parker were members of the Order of the Pheonix and fought in the Second Wizarding War.  They were obliviated when the Red Lady took office.  Claire’s Da was assigned to guard Maggie Parker and eventually fell in love with her.  Rodolphus Lestrange was framed for Charlene Parker’s murder.   Memories exist to prove that it was actually Bellatrix that killed her. Think how this might realate to Ovidian Schwartzwald IV in other ways. What spell/spell type  was he known to use the Snake venom for?

Speculation:  Based on this and a few other events, it appears as though Claire’s Da, a master of memory charms (per post 122 in the Hogwarts ground thread), may still be ensuring that Claire’s Mum doesn’t remember the details of her past.  This might be in an attempt to protect her.

Amanda Davis:
Notes from the Diagon Alley Thread relating to Year 3:

1.  There was more description about the events that took place at Ollivander's, but nothing significant that wasn’t already mentioned in the Daily Prophet notes.

2.  Athene reported that she had found a bit of information about horacruxes:

From Old English: ‘hor’ or ‘hore’ meaning dirt, evil, impurity + ‘crux’ or ‘crúce’ meaning container, pitcher, jar =   Evil container

From Old French: ‘dehors’ meaning outside + ‘crux’ meaning soul =  The Soul Outside

3.  Amanda added additional information:  “They work by breaking the Arete.  The definition of arete wasn’t very clear, but I think it means the virtues.”  She also found an article in Greek that she asked Nik to translate.  I don’t remember if he ever provided the translation to us.  I’ll keep my eyes open for it in the other threads. Nik can make a Merit roll woth a plus one if he speaks Greek and another plus one if he can borrow books from his father's shop. DC 8 and you can translate the book easily. Send it to me in a PM and I will respond with contents.

4.  Kiri obtained the following information about horacruxes:

They are exceedingly old, powerful, and dark magic.
They are something only the darkest of souls would do to themselves.
It takes powerful magic to destroy them.
The items themselves can be anything
(no set form or characteristics mean that it can either be anything, or the thing can change so that it would be different all the time)
There is no way to tell by non-magical means what they are.
It might not be possible to easily tell by magical means either.

5.  Nik may have found a book in ancient Egyptian that talks about horacruxes.  He had been studying the language in an attempt to read it.  Several of the Ravenclaws offered to help. Here, make an Intellect roll with any bonuses from research or related language skills to translate this work.

Amanda Davis:
Notes from the Platform 9 ¾ Thread relating to Year 3:

1.  Auror Concepta Thrussington shared a compartment with Claire, Athene and Amanda.   We learned that she is a metamorphagus with an eccentric and colorful appearance.  She is also a half-blood who has a muggle father.  She was assigned to guard the Slytherins.   It was a rather tense ride.  Several of the Auror’s comments antagonized Athene and Claire.  Their reactions lead to additional subtle comments and threats from the Auror.  It didn’t help that Athene saw Auror Thrussington as a bully.  Amanda remained on her best behavior for the trip.

2.  Auror Eustice Scrub shared a compartment with Robert, James, and Lysandra Lestrange.  He is a half goblin and has a Scottish brogue.  He seemed to be friendly and good-natured.  Lysandra’s presence prevented him from sharing much information with the boys.   He was assigned to guard the Ravenclaws.

3.  Auror Wesley Tallowhide shared a compartment with Nik and Kiri.  He wears patchwork clothing and has a scrawny, scarred cat named Mittens.  While he can appear pleasant, Kiri’s attempted rebellion showed that he can be scary when provoked.  He was assigned to guard the Hufflepuffs.

4.  Lysandra Lestrange spent the summer with her Grandmother.  The Grandmother’s eyes were either as hard as stones or completely unemotional when she noticed Claire looking at them through the window.

5.  According to Auror Thrussington, Mr. Cowlings is an expert on security.

6.  According to Auror Tallowhide, each of the aurors has talents which are wholly unique and unreproducible by magic. So, the train this year was meant as your snapshot of the four Aurors with bits and pieces added over the year so you can all ruminate on who should and should not be trusted in this lot. Think on it.

Amanda Davis:
Notes from the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardy (Year Three) Thread:

1.  Because  wizarding families starting to question the safety of their children at Hogwarts, there were only 12 first years this year.

2.  Headmaster Snape was clearly unhappy about the presence of the Aurors. Was he?

3.  The sorting hat’s song was unusual and may have contained a riddle.

“Crooked nose, funny hat
Stumpy legs, shiny crown
Weird hums, no face
Dark looks, funny hat

Worse luck that a black cat
Watchful eyes in the halls
Watching this, watching that
Look out! or Hogwarts falls.”

The song is about who should be trusted. IN the first two years, the new faces were minimal, but this years there were many, many new faces to hide a villain amongst. Who is it? There has to be a villain, right?

Speculation:  It may be referring to the aurors.  Stumpy legs could refer to the very short Auror Scrub.  No face could refer to the fact that Auror Thrussington is a metamorphagus and can change the appearance of her face at will.  Dark looks fits with Auror Sekndenberg.  And Auror Tallowhide might have a crooked nose.

4.  Professor LeFey had a lengthy discussion with the Slytherins during the Feast and appeared to be lecturing them.

5.  Professors LeFey and Price were giving Athene more than casual looks throughout the meal. Points four and five were meant to make you guys, with bits and pieces along the year, about the new teachers this year and whether they can be trusted or not. That was meant to be combined with the song's warning about untrustworthy eyes in the halls. This was all meant to be combined with the news about parents not sending their students to Hogwarts and the government moving in the background to put forth their agenda at Hogwarts and around the nation. The books take a decided dark turn in 3, 5, and 6 and I wanted to reflect that in my story as well.

More updates as I see fit to this post.

Re: Time changes and absences
It became known as the Whomping Willow incident and it was the defining reason that Hufflepuff lost the House CUp. Well, truth told they had been in third place before that, but everyone blamed Claire, Robert, and James for leaving school grounds against the rules and losing the house a hundred points each, plumeting them to dead last place by a lot. Funny thing was, none of those three could remember why they had done it, when, or any details of it. They only remembered begin in Hogwarts.Robert and James remembered being at Etiquette class then stepping into the infirmary while Claire went from Etiquette class to being in the Great Hall being chastised by Snape. She remembered being in her house and something about Da, but it was all fuzzy.

Athene, Amanda, and Kiri were all pitied for being injured in the Whomping Willow explosion and applauded for not being in on the "normal pariah shenanigans."

The rest of the semester begins to flow. Valentine's day is a week or so after the event and an event unthinkable occurs, Corinna Beaglehole berates Robert long and hard at breakfast about his friendship with Claire Cowlings. She disapproves if it intensely and insists it was her bad influence that led him to losing a hundred points for his house. What does Robert do?

Dueling Club and self defense classes, courtesy of Llyod Biggs are well attended and midterms roll around in March. Much to Amamnda's surprise, Miles Davis begins to attend her study group that crops up this time each year and is mildly more friendly to her, he suggests that some distance between her and the Hufflepuffs is a good thing. Athene begins to notice the Valdemar has been noticing her, or staring at her a lot, lately.

Eventually, the time for finals rolls around and the Renegade Trio are forgotten in favor of the press of finals. Third years are having finals for electives for the first time ever and the study schedule is intense.

Finals: (posted a few except divination, good time to remind me what you are taking, BTWs)
Ancient Runes- An intense, long written test with sections where students identify 50 runes at the associated magical school, translate five incantation from English into runes, and identify five spells written in runes.
Arithmancy- A long written test with basic arithmatical calculations and word problems.
Astronomy- Filling in a star chart with Chinese constellations.
CoMC- Feed a crate of Bile Toads without them vomiting then dance with a Grace Crane without tripping.
Charms- Cast Calliditate Leviosa, Lumos Duo, Eruca Leviosa, and useReductio on a hearth fire so it can fit in a lantern.
DADA- Cast and maintain a Capricum Maximus spell for ten minutes then drag a small chest across the room with Carpe Retractum.
Potions- Brew a Boiling Elixir and a Instant Ice Potion.
Transfiguration- Transfigure a groundhog into a piglet.
Magical Languages- Write a 24" essay on the magical language of the San Bushmen is related to Zulu Heart Magic.
Muggle Studies- Write an essay defending or arguing against the ;aw prohibiting the enchantment of major muggle artifacts such as cars of cellphones.
History of Magic- An essay on either the nineteenth century conflicts with the Zulu Nation or territorial conflicts in Australia, Hong Kong, or India.
Herbology- Harvest a parcel of Gillyweed.

Deal with this bit so far, then we can get on to the vacation. Feel free to ask questions, clarify, and have some fun with this bit as we build up for next year.

Re: Time changes and absences
Summer 2021

After a long and trying semester, the final Banquet arrives and students gather to say goodbye to one another. To no one's surprise Slytherin takes the trophy followed by Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Hufflepuff in a distant last place. A few sharp glances were given around the table at that. Still, the feast was bountiful, kids were laughing and crying as they said their goodbyes and the third years noticed more than a few awkward situations amongst their number this year over last. There weren't boyfriends and girlfriends quiet as of yet, not anyone using those words anyways, but more than a few girls and boys who were once friends seemed to stand fidgeting in front of one another rather than slapping hands and backs like old mates. Feel free to break in the Great Hall, part 2 with goodbyes.

Then it was back aboard the train and scattered across the world for the summer.

Shortly into vacations, of course, the usual letter arrived for the students with their list of needed texts for the next year:

Third years...

Next is a section informing the students as to which foreign exchange students will be housed in their dorms and a recommendation to bring "items, elixirs, or dictionaries that could be of any use" with them. Students are also instructed to bring a set of Dress Robes as there will be a Ball; a set of athletic robes for sporting events; and anything they thing traditional for the cultural fair. Foreign students will be receiving a letter from Hogwarts instead of/or in addition to their normal school communications.

Over the summer, the various Daily Prophet articles come out. Sometime in august, each student receives a packet of tickets in the mail: 2 for the Sports Fair on October the 10th and 2 for the Cultural Fair on February the 13th. Girls of third year and above only will receive two tickets to the End of Year Ball. Yes, only the girls have tickets to the dance boys; it is Sadie Hawkins style. The tickets are all enchanted so that they can only be given freely. The event tickets are for parents or guardians who are also informed they can buy extras if they wish and to contact Deputy Headmistress Cordelia Bones for details. These are also sent out to the foreign attendees.

As always, Diagon Alley stores have a big sales event planned for the week prior to the start of term at Hogwarts.

Re: Time changes and absences
A long busy summer was had by all, but it slowly came to the end. The various delegations from the foreign countries were taking up all the rooms at the Leaky Cauldron and other wizard friendly establishments around London, though a few were staying at rented homes and such.

Each international student had been given instructions on how the studetns were expected to arrive at school: Beauxbatons were taking a coach from school, Durmstrangs were taking there submersible ship, Kunlun was arriving in a paper dragon, but most of the schools had just elected to have their students take the Hogwarts Express from London to school. It was easier and there were no shows scheduled for their arrival after all.

However, before the train ride on August 31, there was the traditional day of shopping on August 30. Diagon alley was teeming with frustrated parents, scurrying house elves, screeching owls, and boisterous children. It was a scene of carefully orchestrated chaos. It did not help that the summer's big push on foreign items in honor of the Festival was at its fever pitch. Massive sales on ingredients, equipment, book, robes, and even familiars.

Fortesque's was having a big sale on their seasonal flavors and giving away free samples, the Menagerie was having a petty expo where children could look at at, to some extent, play with the foreign familiars in stock, all governed by a licensed CoMC expert.

There was certainly nothing that could go wrong in so Idyllic a place...

Alright, it is August 30 and it is time for everyone to pile into Diagon Alley. I may run a few NPCs around based on what is happening. We'll get you all get acquainted tehn move to the train and the Year's new starting thread!
