Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
James hastily copied Claire's action and pointed his glowing wand into corners as well. He saw nothing but kept lloking because he had definitely seen someone come back here and he didn't want to let Claire down. Surely that someone was around. James even began to move things about haphazardly before giving Claire a sheepish look and searching a bit more carefully.

He was about to admit that he was maybe seeing things when a voice suddenly cracked into the, "And what, by Merlin's ghost, are you two doing back here?"

James did his best impersonation of a deer caught in la p lights as Claire's mum entered the room.

Out front, the girls heard the voice of Claire's mum scolding James and Claire from the back room. Whatever could they be doing?!

Nearby, the girls had the sudden, brilliant idea to take their men dress shopping and gladly skipped toward gladrags. On the plus side, Dillon and Randall were alright chaps and sympathized with Robert over the predicament.

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Claire jumped and turned beet red. Although at this point she was pretty sure there was no one back here, she was really glad she wasn't standing right next to James.  "Two things.  James thought he saw some one come back here, that didn't look like they worked here. But I guess they didn't, and last time my piecework was on the shelf there, I said that, when we passed you at the counter." She glanced one last time around and her voice lowered automatically  "And I wouldn't be stupid enough to do anything else, on a Hogsmeade visit, in your store, with da following me.  I'd never get to come on another Hogsmeade visit and actually go round the village."

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
The afternoon was going nice as the just waundered some and let some of the pressure of school work ease off and the sense of her persence was very nice even if was of a mind that it might be more fun to be alone with her.

Most of Corrinas friends were ok even if they had a somewhat slanted view of Hufflepuff house. The spent some time checking out the magical gift shop with its whacky items and then some time with the ice cream shop.

"So, Corrina, what are your plans after you graduate?." He asked with a straight face, wondering if he might live close enough to her after they finished Hogwarts and joined the other witch and wizards working out in the wide world.

Athene hide her grin behind her hand as Claire's mum berated the pair of them.  Then she noticed that Corinna and her gaggle were heading in to the shop.  "Hey Robert... Corinna."  She didn't know the rest of that gang to address any of them with any degree of certainty so she didn't.

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
The excuses were good enough, "Your work is behind the counter today, not scoot young lady, before your Da sees you."

There was a look that said for her to behave herself... all the time, added as she stepped aside to let the children back out front. SHe did cast a suspicious look around the back room and seemed to stay after they had left.

Out front, Corinna smiles at Athene and waves before turning back to her friends, "After Hogwarts? I want to get into local government in Plymouth, that's near where my family live. I'd like to do something with law enforcement or children. How about you Robert, planning to stay in Britain or going back to the states?"

He nods at the idea of his friend in the mayors office or even working for the Governor or some such trail of possibilities.

"Me?, i want to work with magical animals and if i get lucky i would like to specalize with water based magical animals. Hmmm, plymouth?, America has a plymouth also on the east coast." I had thought of maybe trying for the aurors but lately i am finding that idea a bit hard to swallow."  He glanced off to the side to see if he could spot his Watcher auror.

" I know i will have to most likely go the full 7 years to hogwarts but i like animals, always have. Back home in my families house we have a dog and cat and some fish in a big tank and i know out in the ocean nearby is a magical animal care that James and i visited last time i was home."

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Amanda had just finished putting back an old rose top when she heard Mrs. Cowlings scolding James and Claire.  She glanced towards the back of the store, feeling a small surge of sympathy for Claire.  It was never fun to be scolded when your friends could hear, and being scolded in front of a boy you liked had to be even worse.  She was curious about whether or not they’d actually been kissing in the backroom.  But, she decided that unless one of her friends brought it up, she’d should probably just pretend as though she hadn’t heard anything.

Glancing around, she noticed Athene near the front of the store and walked over to wait with her.  Her smile was friendly as she noticed Robert and his new friends.  But since Corinna and Robert appeared to be right in the middle of a conversation, she simply waved.

Athene turned from Corinna and Robert after getting the friendly brush off and asked Amanda softly, "So, if Robert and Corinna were celebrities, what would their portmanteau be?  You know like Brangelina, Bennifer, or Desilu?"  She thought for a moment before offering her own suggestions, "I'm thinking Corbert or Robinna."

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Claire led James out from the back room, NOT holding his hand, and grabbed her work from under the counter.  She headed for the front, assuming he was following, for Amanda and Athena.  Robert and Corinna were busy, so she broke into Amanda and Athena's conversation.  "James thought he saw someone in the back, Mum's checking it out now. We didn't find anything. " THen she stopped and looked at Athena confusedly as she tried to figure out Robinna.  "What are you talking about?"

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Unfamiliar with the celebrities that Athene was referencing, Amanda looked blank for just a moment.  But, she recognized the term “portmanteau” from their Magical Langauges class and the suggestions that Athene offered provided the final hint she needed.  “I prefer Robinna.”

Amanda greeted Claire’s arrival with a welcoming smile, “It’s a game where you combine the names of two people.  For example, you and James would be Jaire or Claimes.”  She frowned slightly as she realized what else Claire had said.  “Do you think someone was trying to take something?”  It didn’t seem likely that someone would want to steal fabric or unfinished clothing; but some of the higher end fabrics and accessories might be valuable.

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
She made a face at the description of the game, and frowned when Amanda combined hers and James names.  "That's just rude,  Who does that?" Then turned her attention back to the back room issue. "James thought they were staring at us.  I didn't see them, but he said they went in the back room, I can go back there, I work here, so we went and looked."  She paused a few seconds, mulling over how that sounded, deciding that someone besides Mum and Da, who were naturally suspicious, might actually get suspicious too,  then added. "We didn't do anything that suggested any other reason for going back there, so Mum believed us too.   Did either of you find something you wanted to buy?"

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
James came along behind Claire and caught the tail end f teh name game explanation and the combination of his name and Claire's. He was about to suggest which one he liked when she declared it rude. His jaw snapped shut with a click and he smiled away his momentary private embarrassment.

He saw that the girls were moving toward talk of shopping gain and he glanced around as they did. Seeing Robert, he waved and grinned. He knew they were two boys a year or two ahead of their class when it came to girls,James thought his mother had been a bad influence there, and gave his buddy a "hang ten," a move he had learned in California.

Returning to the girls, "Whatever you buy, you're carrying it yourself, none of that stuff I see on the tele, here?" He grinned to show he was kiding, ""How about something to eat next, yeah? I could devour a horse!"

In reply to James Evans (msg # 62):

Claire grinned at James. "What?  You don't want to be a pack mule."  She gripped her bag of piecework.  "Fine with me, where do we want to go.  Three broomsticks or the teashoppe."

"Well I'm certainly not going to be buying a whole lot of stuff today.  As for food, which ever you guys go with is okay with me."  Athene wasn't happy about James and Claire having gone off and search for someone on their own, but she wasn't going to say anything where either Chaire's mum or da could hear.  With the Lestranges on the loose it wasn't safe.  At least Claire and James were together.

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Amanda didn’t agree with Claire’s assessment of the name game.  It was just playing with words, nothing insulting or cruel.  But, it certainly didn’t seem worth arguing about.

“I found an absolutely beautiful set of dress robes, or rather Athene found them for me.  But, I’m just going to put them on my Christmas list.” She grinned at James’ comment, “I’m planning to buy a few things today and I promised to pick up some stuff for Kiri and Lloyd.  But don’t worry, I’m sure that I can manage to carry it.”

“The Tea Shop has a really good spinach and strawberry salad,”
Amanda recommended.  “But, either one would be good.”

Although she hadn’t said so aloud, she was a bit concerned about the fact that someone might have been watching James and Claire.  While she hoped that it was nothing, she decided it would be wise to be a bit more alert for the rest of their trip.

James would prefer, far and above, to go to the Three Broomsticks, but he was willing to sacrifice since he was in certain company. When it seemed as likely to be the Broomsticks or the Tea Shop eh jumped on it, "A butterbeer sounds good to me!"

He then lead the troop along, eager for something a bit more in his mode.

Red and black: that is what James ran smack into as he tried to rush into the Broomsticks. He bounced off of the bright red robes of High Auror Ronald Weasley and sat down in the dirt and snow with an audible "Oof!"

Beside the High Auror was the zone of negative black space that was Headmaster Snape. He glared down at James and then looked to the Auror, who was also glaring. It was hard to tell which was scarier and both were doing their best to make James do his best impersonation of a turtle.

The gazes then raised to the girls and the High Auror spent a good amount of time looking at both Athen and Claire before nodding to Snape and striding off. Snape then glanced at the children, "Watch your steps, Mr Evans, have a nice day, children" and strode off himself.

The group was left in a dead stop.

Her stomach dropping past her knees, Claire wanted to get swallowed up bt a crack in the earth except she couldn't break eye contact with the High Auror.  Once they moved away, she glanced back behind her to see where Da was.  And started to breathe again.

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
Amanda gasped and took a step backwards as James ran straight into High Auror Ronald Weasley.  While she was certain....well mostly certain...that they would realize it had simply been an innocent accident, neither the High Auror nor the Headmaster were people you wanted to be annoyed with you.

Although most of the attention was focused on her friends, Amanda still felt her cheeks getting warmer and a strong desire to just disappear.  Nevertheless, she was able to respond politely to Headmaster Snape’s comment.  “Thank you, Sir.  We're sorry about the accident and we hope that you have a nice day as well.”  She realized she should have offered the appology to High Auror Weasley instead; but, she just hadn't quite been brave enough to speak until she was spoken too.

"Hey Robert, you wanna join us at the Broomstick for a spot of something?" Athene had asked right before she heard James run into someone.  She turned to find that it was the High Auror.  She gave an apologetic smile as Weasley glared at her and Claire, but other than that she refused to let him intimidate her.

After both he and the headmaster had stormed off she muttered, "Well, weren't they both rays of sunshine?"

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
The sound of James muttering to himself caught his attention as well as the sound of him hitting the floor. He looked over intending to make a remark to James but instead his blood felt cold as he caught sight of not only Headmaster Snape but for some reason the high Auror was there as well.

He stood and checked to make sure his girl friend was aware of what had just been noticed by the rest of them. Sighing softly he nods to the Headmaster but the rememberence of the house elf and how the High Auror went after the small being still bothered him and for some reason he was not as much in awe of the man as he should be.

"Head Master, i see you have company, i am sure we will see each other at school later". He was not sure if he was being smart or just being cautious but he wanted to show the high Auror that this american was afraid (to Much) of him even if he would show respect for the office.

"Hey Athene, sure, we will be there in a bit if we can".

A smile flickered across Amanda’s face.  There was something comforting about the way that her fellow Ravenclaw’s quiet comments could help defuse the tension of a situation.  She bent down to offer James a hand up, asking, “Are you alright?”

Claire winced as Robert spoke, her first actual reaction beyond standing frozen like a statue, then pulled herself together and moved over to where Amanda was helping James up.    "The broomsticks is closer, let's go there.  We'll do the tea shop next time, ok?  Then we can go to honeydukes and Zonko's and wherever else we need to."  Sitting down at this point would probably be a good thing.  She couldn't read Da's expression, but he had seen the whole thing with James, the High Auror and the Headmaster.  "We can get butterbeer and a plate of something to share.  They make good chips.  Or eggs, "

Re: Hogsmeade - October 2020
James accepted the hand up and tried to hide his cheery red ears and neck. He was flushed with embarrassment though and hung his head, mumbling apologies, as the red robed wizard stalked off followed by his guardian. "That's going to make for an awkward Christmas, yeah?"

He then smiled at his companions and moved toward the Three Broomsticks and the promised drink and chips, which all sounded fabulous. He hoped that Robert and his bunch made it, too.

Once at the pub, the group was lead to a small booth in the back and they piled in, giving orders as they did so to Mrs. Thomas and then turning to the girls, "So, what else is on the agenda for the day? Visiting relations or whatnot?"

He noted that Claire's Da was now seated across the room with one of the aurors, the really scary one.
