Re: Oct 2020, the next day
James wracked his brain and really tried to remember more but his face eventually fell, "No, I don't really remember more. He just said that it was all ancient, dark magic and that Harry Potter had been trying to destroy them twenty years ago or something and that we should leave well enough alone."

James shrugged and slumped in his seat. He was staring at the book on Spanish Vampires and grunted in disgust. Then he looked at Claire and smiled wanly, he wished he could help her more, "Sorry Claire, even though he said your mum knows something about it, he wouldn't open up."

He threw his quill at his paper and managed to put a huge blotch right on his thesis. He growled in frustration and immediately started trying to do something about it.

In reply to Claire Cowlings (msg # 177):

James held his hands up and then blinked at Claire. He was confused. The ink disappeared and then he looked at her, "But I thought your mum was dead, Claire?" He blushed even as he asked it and looked at his hands where he fumbled his quill, it had been an insensitive question.

In reply to Claire Cowlings (msg # 179):

James frowned hard and thought about it, "No, he said "she knows" and he said she was in school around the same time as Harry Potter and them, so it can't be your grandmum, she was probably in school with BSC or something like that, right?" James wasn't sure what was getting at but he was suddenly feeling a bit nervous. He thought this conversation was turning real sour, real fast.

In reply to James Evans (msg # 180):

Claire sighed.  "It can't be she knows and be my mother.  She knew would be my mother, she knows would be mum, but yes, mum went to school more around the time ofBSC, and mum around the time of harry potter."  It'd be too much to hope that her mother was alive, and if she was, why hadn't she come back?

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
Amanda found herself wondering if Bellatrix Lestrange had had a second reason for murdering Claire’s mother.  Perhaps Mr. Lestrange had told her more than was safe for her to know.  Not wanting to upset Claire further, she left that thought unspoken for now, “Maybe the headmaster simply misspoke?”  It was hard to believe that if Claire’s mother was still alive, she hadn’t made contact with her family.  Though maybe...if she had been trying to protect them by staying in hiding...

The trail of conversation was like trying to ride a rip tide along the shore line. He glanced at James and guessed he was remembering most of what the headmaster said.

With a glance to Athene then to Claire, "Hmmm, If i had to guess i would say that somehow Claire's mom and Athene are connected. What if these dark wizard types wanted Claire's mother for the same reason they wanted Athene?.

Of course i will be wrong if my track record remains intact, still it was a thought.

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
Athene had a thought, even if it didn't make much sense to her, given how close Claire's family were to each other.  Still it couldn't hurt to ask, "Claire?  Your mother... she wasn't afraid of dying was she?  It's just that... after becoming friends with Moaning Myrtle first year, I did a little research.  Most of the books all agreed, only those afraid of death are likely to come back as ghosts.  Still... if she was a ghost, that could be why the Headmaster used the present tense.  He could have been referring to her ghost."

Claire shrugged.  "I haven't a clue if she was afraid of dying or not.  Would Moaning myrtle, or maybe the fat friar would know."  Claire made a face.    "I guess then I have to ask."

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
Amanda’s expression remained thoughtful and she occasionally jotted a note or thought down on the scroll in front of her.  “Referring to her ghost does make sense,”  Amanda agreed, adding, “If it would make it any easier Claire, I could go with you to ask them or could ask them for you.”

She then turned her attention to Robert’s question.  “Do you mean that you think that Athene and Claire’s mother are relatives?”  While she was fairly certain that Athene wasn’t actually muggleborn, just muggle-raised, it was hard to believe that Athene and Claire could be siblings.  “Or that Claire’s mother is related to Voldemort along a different blood line?”  She shook her head, “Or, could you explain what you think the connection might be?”

Letting a tight smile lighten his face as he glance's around them for anyone near enough to be listening to the group. "I can't really be certain but i am thinking that those who serve that Volde guy have gone to alot of trouble trying to get their hands on certain people and most people, even bad guys, dont do that without good reason.

If Athene and Claire's mother are not related then they have something within them that both have or can get. I keep thinking that somehow it is tied up to the Volde guy. True no proof but that is alot of danger and effort for them to be doing this for kicks."

Amanda mulled it over for a moment before responding, “Bellatrix Lestrange did have personal reasons for murdering Claire’s mother.  But, if I remember correctly, Claire had a few nightmares last year too.  Though, they weren’t as strong or as frequent as Athene’s.  And, since Athene’s nightmares were caused by Lestrange’s attempts to locate the relative....”  She shrugged, “There might be more to the story than we already know.”

Athene replied with, "Yeah, Lysandra's nightmares were worst than Claire's, and that was bleed through from her mother.  Could be that Claire had nightmares because of BSC's hatred for Claire's mother?  Too bad I couldn't ask Ajax more questions last year."  Realizing she wasn't one hundred percent sure she had mentioned it before she added, "Ajax was the centaur that had been in my dreams.  He showed up at the school to talk to the Headmaster at the end of April and I got to talk to him as he made his way back to the Forbidden Forrest."

He still remembered the first day they had arrived at hogwarts and woke up the next day. He had wanted to go explore the dark woods not knowing the danger it could hold.

"Well, then, why not form a picnic and go see if we can find this Ajax?, or possibly another question i could ask, is it possible for you to send an Owl message to this Ajax?."

"We'd have better luck trying the owl first since we have no idea where in the Forbidden Forest he might be AND we're still probably being watched by the aurors.  I doubt they'd let us even get close to the edge of the forests, much less an inch in it.  Of course he might not answer any of our questions anyways... might upset the signs and all that rot.  Still it couldn't hurt to try the letter."

Athene turned to a fresh page in her notebook and wrote at the top:

Questions for Ajax:
1. Were Claire's nightmares a side effect of BSC's or is there more to it than that?
2. Have you seen any sign of BSC or her husband in the Forbidden Forest?
3. Are Claire and I closely related?

She almost wrote down another question but hesitated.  So instead she looked at the others and asked, "What else do you think we should ask?"

Amanda frowned thoughtfully as she tried to remember what, if anything, Athene had told her about the conversation with Ajax last year.  However, if Athene had mentioned it, Amanda couldn’t remember the discussion.  “Remind me, what exactly did Ajax tell you last year,” she asked.  Any further questions might depend on what he’d already told them.

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
Athene leaned back in her seat after writing Claire's question to the list and closed her eyes.  She always found it easier to recall memories that way.  He kept calling me something in a foreign language... dit na something.  He said it was a title and that he wouldn't tell me what it meant; or at least not then."

She leaned back to the table and added: 5. What was the title you called me and what does it mean?"

"He talked about prophecy being a two-edged sword and far more dangerous than any sword.  He also said that it would be irresponsible of him to talk about thinks even he doesn't fully understand.  He apologized for not stopping the dreams, but that he had to learn what was causing them.  He sensed something while walking near the school.  He did confirm that it was something far darker than the snake that was walking in my dreams."

"We had reached the edge of the forest then and he gave me one last question to ask.  I asked about the final dream I had down in the Chamber of Secrets.  He said that it wasn't Voldemort's doing at all, but my own mind's subconscious trying to break free.  Something about uncontrolled magic and that if I had been even a year older I wouldn't have been able to have done it.  He then called me a very interesting child and disappeared into the woods."

She shrugged as if to say, that's it.

Kiri looked up at Athene for a moment.  "You know, the things that help keep him from dying, whatever he put in there? could he put some of it in a person to keep for him?  Cause I'll bet what ever it is is dark, and if it's walking in your dreams?  Of course, then there;s the question of getting it out without hurting you." Kiri is just a bundle of sunshine. "Cause, you're going to be a year older soon."

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
All the speculation had James' head spinning. Sometimes, when the girls got to theorizing, James felt just, well, dumb. This time, he had been the trigger even, and he was lost almost immediately, <bleu>"Wait, wait. Why is Claire's mum a ghost?"</blue>

Just then, Madame Travers walked by, followed by her normal gaggle of boys, and gave the group a strong look. Where they liked it or not, she knew more or less what they got up to at this back table amongst the stacks.

She was not amused. James flushed red at her glare. It reminded just how much trouble they always got into, "Hey, maybe we are supposed to drop this. Maybe that was what Snape was trying to tell me, to leave well enough alone?" He also, kinda, didn't want things turning towards Harry Potter either.

Just then, Professor Prince came around the corner and approached their table, "Ah, Mrs Davis. I was reviewing your homework this morning and I would like you to come with me. As for the rest of you, why are you cooped up in the Library on a holiday? When I was a girl, I used to treasure free days for frivolous things like walking and playing games."

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
While the discussion was interesting and involved things that affected her friends, at least part of Amanda agreed with James’ desire to leave things in the hands of the adults.  Her parents had come close to removing her from Hogwarts after their last adventure; and she hated to imagine what their reaction would be if she got into any more dangerous situations.

Regardless, any further speculation or comments on the part of Amanda was cut short by the arrival of first Madame Travers and then Professor Prince.  Her polite smile faltered as the Professor mentioned a problem with her homework.  “Yes, Professor.”  She began gathering up her books and school supplies as she answered the second question, “We were just getting caught up on a bit of homework before our picnic this afternoon.  Speaking of which,”  she glanced over to Robert, “when and where do you want me to meet up with you all for the picnic?”

She waited long enough for an answer and then with a quick goodbye to her friends left the library with Professor Prince, asking quietly, “Did I do something wrong?”

The look from the librarian made him want to kick himself and to somehow make up for what ever he had done, though even as he considered it he had not done anything wrong..well at least this time.

He was slower then the gals as it seemed they had a different way of looking at things and of talking, so the more they talked he found himself drifting in daydreams of being on a broom chasing down the golden snitch.

Amanda's voice broke thru as he noticed Prof. Prince and Amanda. "O' Down by the lake near that dropping willow tree. That where i had hoped to have it unless someone else beats us to that spot."

Re: Oct 2020, the next day
Athene chose to stay quiet and let Amanda and Robert talk to the professor while she casually closed up her notebook.  She nodded her head at Robert's suggestion as to where to meet up for the picnic.

Once Amanda and Prince had left she rolled her eyes, "Back in London, the teachers were always tearing their hair out trying to get students to study.  Ah well.  Best brake up our little party and go have fun."

Pretty soon they broke up and went to get ready for their picnic.  Athene headed to the Ravenclaw tower to get her cloak, empty out half her bag of textbooks, and collect her senet set.
