Re: Library
Val continued his curious exploration of the library, after a shy nod to the librarian. After a while he felt pangs of hunger in his tummy and decided it must be time for lunch.

When the great bell's sounding reverberates through the library.  Miss Travers makes a shooing motion to William.  Then in a sort of vortex effect she transforms into a songbird and flies away.

Re: Library
Startled, Amanda jumped slightly as the sound of a bell reverberated through the library.  A quick glance at her watch confirmed that it was lunch time.  So, she packed away her textbooks and notes and gathered up the books she intended to check out.   “I still need to check my books out.   I’ll meet you in the Great Hall.”  Library books in hand and book bag over her shoulder, Amanda headed to the desk to check out her books and then, after tucking the library books in the book bag as well, continued on to the Great Hall.

Re: Library
Athene closed the calligraphy book and stood as well.  "Right behind you, Amanda."  She waited her turn and checked out her two books before putting them in her book bag on the way to the Great Hall.  She planned on coming back as soon as she could to check out these guides that Amanda mentioned.

Re: Library
Will watched as the others filed off towards the Great Hall for lunch.  He had had a big enough breakfast, and had always been a bit of a squirrelly eater, not really hungry yet.  He lingered in the library for a while longer, seeking out the librarian again, he coughed lightly to get her attention.

"Uh, excuse me ma'am.  I was wondering if I could ask you something?  I didn't hear you coming up behind me.. and the library's rather quiet." He looks down at his feet as he asks the question, almost as if he's embarassed to be asking.  But if there was some spell good for sneaking about, maybe it could help him, avoid certain people he'd rather not bump into.

OOC: Missed that. >P

Will was still looking at his feet for a moment.  He looks up at the librarian again, biting his lip for a moment as he thinks.  "Do you, um, need help from students at all, you know.  Putting back books and such?  I'd like something to do once in a while, and it's nice and quiet in here."

Miss Travers regards the boy with some compassion before answering.

"I'm afraid I have all the help I need.  But, thank you for the offer and I'll keep you in mind."

She smiles as she talks then shoos William along again.

Re: Library
Will nods, looking more than a little disappointed at the refusal, but he offers a polite nod of his head and a farewell, "Ma'am."  Before walking out of the library.  With no where else to go, he decides to at least head for the Great Hall where everyone else went for lunch.

Arriving at the Library soon after leaving the great hall he is impressed with the grand display of books of all sort. He truly wondered who could read all those books.

He stepped in and looked over the students to see if he can find his chums so they can begin studying their homework.

Re: Library
With a flush he has the librarian help him find the books he needs to do his homework but even if he is a kid he is impressed with the librarians face and instantly is struck by how beautiful she is and hurrys thru the books he wants.

Red faced he returns to the table trying to hide the flush to his cheeks by openning his books and getting his quill out to work on the transfigeration homework.

After a short while he remembered why the had come to the library in the first place but he wouldnt face the woman again, but he was lucky as he didnt have to when someone else brought the book on professors to study later.

Finding Claire wanting to go to up to the library he nods and joins in with her though he knew little about any howells other then the chars on Guilligans island, but they might find something in the history section.

Ok, tell me again why we are interested in the howells?. Research wasnt one of his strong skills but he could find most of what he was searching for.

She shrugs "I've never been big on history and who's who in politics, but when a teacher says. 'Yes, one of those Howell's" and starts shaking hands with all the Slytherin's, I want to know who they are.  And after last year with the two professors, I want to know more ahead of time anyhow.  We can look up the other teachers too, if you want to.  I bet the headmaster's biography would be interesting if we could find it."  After last year she had started to be concerned with history and politics, but seriously, she'd been too darn busy working over the summer, and when she'd been allowed to go play, that's all she'd wanted to do.. Here again, she might have time for some of that, if mum didn't send too much piecework.  Also, the family didn't get the Prophet or any magazines, although sometimes Mum brought home an ancient Witch Weekly or Raising Witchlings, or sometimes even Which Broomstick or All out Quidditch or the Pitch, nothing on politics.

looking up the professors.
Finding out who the Howell's are doesn't really take very long. a family that rose into prominence by backing Lady Red early on, and turns to the other idea that had touched her fancy, looking up the other professors.  Although she's not going to ask the librarian for help there, she finds the section of the library that deals with recent history, in the last 40 years, she judges the headmaster to be in his 60's, and starts looking until it's time to go to transfiguration.

Re: looking up the professors.
Fairly sure that nothing would earth shattering news about the Howells he helped a little but the more he looked over the books the more he began wondering how the last war was written about and what the results were not to mention what had happened to the major players in the battle against voldy and lady red.

He found a couple of books that didnt look like it was a propaganda pamlet and checked them out before working his way around some slitherins snickering about a book they were reading.

Finding Claire he set down and checked his watch, Almost time for class. You about finished here?.

Re: looking up the professors.
You find a book that describes much of the events of the Second war, written by a Wanda Baffrey, apparently a student at Hogwart's during that time and historian now.  It has a good amount of information about recent history and some snippets about Dolores Umbridge and Severus Snape in a pair of appendixes.

Another book, ostensibly about Hogwarts over the last thirty years, is more about the various staff and has a lengthy biography of each in it: lineages, birth dates, etc.  Of them all, Snape's biography is the thinnest.

Just then the bells for class began to ring, letting kids out.  Soon, the start of next class bells would chime.

Re: looking up the professors.
"Yeah, I'm ready."  Claire sighs as she checks several books out, including the two that she specifically saw the Headmaster in.  The other four books are 2 histories specifically of the time of Voldemorts rise, and two collections of the daily prophet, two 10 year compendiums comprising 1995 to 2005 and 2005 to 2015.  THey head to transfiguration.

NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
Kiri was in the library poring over the reshelving cart.  She had her history book, and the dada book, plus her cooy of Hogwarts, A History, that she had owled her mother for, to go along with a new DADA book.  She had read the Hogwarts book cover to cover in three days, and was now chasing down all the footnotes in it.  SHe knew Claire had returned a couple books she wanted last night, for some reason they seemed to be looking for the same books, but the librarian had refused to check them in immediately so she could check them out, so Kiri had come in on the way to potions, then come in after her last class of the morning and had immediately started irritating the librarian by hovering.  Mademoiselle Travers had finally set out the overloaded five shelf high on both sides reshelving cart where Kiri could get to it, and Kiri had pounced.

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
At about 11:15 or so, Lloyd enters the library feeling tired but confident.  The first half of his first day of full-on classes at Hogwarts is over and it's not as bad as he'd anticipated, even though he's got a little bit of catch-up to do.  Potions had been...difficult, but not impossible, and after a few false starts he'd managed to wrap his head around it.  Professor Clearwater had been firm, but at least understanding.

Then, there had been Defense Against the Dark Arts...and Lloyd can honestly say he'd had a blast in that class, although he'd kept himself calm around Professor Malfoy as he didn't seem the playful type.  Lloyd had, however, excelled in the class and had managed to squeeze a few points out of him for Hufflepuff.  Politically, that's good for him, but Lloyd isn't much interested in that at this point.  Right now, he just wants to learn what he's going to use later and he's pleased to find that this subject is coming a little easier to him than Potions was.

Scanning the shelves, he picks a few solid volumes on potions and dark arts defense and grabs a seat to pour over them with the same attitude he had back when he was hunting with his pa, seeking out those bits of information he needed and jotting them down in his notebook.

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
"Hello again," says Lloyd quietly, remembering Kiri from potions.

Answering to his ma's constant teaching about being a gentleman, he doesn't hesitate in reaching over to stop a precariously placed book from tipping over from the shelving cart onto Kiri's foot.

"Got quite a bit of readin' material t'get back to your seat, seems like," he comments, "need an extra set of hands?"

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
Athene rushed into the Library right from Potions class.  She headed right to the catalog book and then paused for a moment.  She had no idea if the book retained any searches made with it.  Sure you could write clear and erase what was there, but was there a codeword that the Headmaster or the Librarian could use to recall what the book was used for?

She debated for a moment then decided to go ahead anyways.  After all she had been reading books all this year on snakes, so it wouldn't look at all unusual for her to expand her searches, right?  She write very crisply on the top of the page: Flying Snakes and Dark Arts.

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
As she had feared, charms and potions had both seemed to last forever and her distraction had caused her to miscount the number of times she stirred the potion she and Athene had been working on, leaving the result only barely acceptable.  Last year, she hadn’t been as worried about the corridor mystery as some of her friends.  But, this was different.  This both involved family and could lead to students getting hurt.  She might not be particularly close to her cousin, but she certainly didn’t want to see anything happen to him.

Amanda arrived at the library just second after the rushing Athene and headed over to another of the catalog books.  Pulling out a sheet a blank scroll, she began a series of searches:  “flying snakes;” “flying serpents;” “flying reptiles not dragons;” “possession;” “possession and magical creatures;” and “possession and flying snakes.”  As the results appeared on the page, she jotted down any titles that seemed as if they were going to be useful.

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
"Just a minute."  Kiri pulled 2 books out of the bottom shelf to go with her growing pile, the two histories that Claire had returned.  Four of the footnote books had been on the shelving cart too, and she checked them off her list.  Six was enough, she thought.  When she finally stood, she towered over the boy, and for a  moment, she felt self-concious about her height, but then dismissed it from her mind. "I think I can get them, but thanks."    She picked up her books and headed for the table she had picked out, it looked like Lloyd had his pile there. "What you reading?"

She saw Amanda and Athene over by the card catalog and wondered what they were looking up so diligently.  Hopefully she wouldn't have to fight anyone for these books that she had.  She kept an eye out for Claire, in book defense.

Re: NOv 1st Lunchtime in the library,
Lloyd nods.  He may be a gentleman, but he wouldn't dream of insisting if a lady wishes to carry her own things.  Where he comes from, that sort of behavior could get a feller smacked across the head.  He instead follows and settles where his books are.

"A coupla things Professor Malfoy suggested," he says, "said it could give me a head start if I could handle the challenge.  That and some potions theory.  I mean, I have no trouble followin' the formula on the board and all that...but I also wanna understand why each component does what it does.  What job does each one do is what I'm tryin' t'understand.  If I can wrap my head 'round that, maybe I can come up with a few ideas for improvements...or maybe a few formulas of my own."

His grin turns a little sheepish.

"Kinda the way I am," he says with a shrug, "tend t'approach by end purpose first.  The Dark Arts Defense...well I get the feelin' I've got a little catch-up to do."
