Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

Kal bent over Claire and used his limited knowledge of first aid to try to determine exactly what was wrong with her. Being in the Republic Navy, he'd had some experience with wounds that pilots might receive. Perhaps that would come in handy now...

15:11, Today: Kal Wennyn rolled 15 using 1d20+3 with rolls of 12. Treat Injury (Diagnose).

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

With Claire safely aboard the Comet - or at least as safe as she was going to be - Mirax guided her own undamaged fighter out of the debris field, to where it would be safe to rest while those aboard the freighter tended to the woman.  She closed her eyes momentarily, resting from the exertion of using the Force to extricate Claire and move her into the Comet's airlock.

After a moment though, she keyed the comm.  "Kal, talk to me," she said, sighing lightly.  "How is she?  And what's our plan?"

In reply to Kal Wennyn (msg #314):

[Private to Kal Wennyn: Overall, she looks fine... and then, all the sudden you feel a rather large soft stop near her rib cage. You suspect some severe internal injuries have puncture her lung and are exerting some strain on her heart. There's nothing you can do to save her, short of operating on her immediately.]

Kal sighed heavily and keyed his comlink to respond, "Our plan is for you to get your ass back on board. We need either a surgical droid, doctor, bacta tank, or some Force magic. She's got a punctured lung and who knows how many other internal injuries."

Kal looked around to the others gathered. "Unless any of you have some skills in medicine or a bacta tank that I haven't seen, she will die. And soon."

Mirax sighed, considering their options. "Well... I'll see what I can do.  But my recommendation is to get us out of this asteroid field first.  I'll dock up then, when its safe, and do what I can.  Until then, get her as stable as you can," she instructed.

Kal said "Right. As stable as I can." Dead is stable. Won't get better, won't get worse. And by the time Mirax got on the ship, Claire would probably be dead. Kal looked around at the others pleadingly perhaps one of them had some idea of how to heal her?

If not, Kal would do his best, or assist whoever might have a clue.

In reply to Kal Wennyn (msg #320):

Pugwis looked at Kal, and his angry look faded. "Krifes, you do that you'll kill 'er outright," he grumbled, before turning back to Vertuba. "Get that krifing medkit, and if you know what's heathly for you, you'll run..! Here," he said to Kal, "I'll hold her head straight while you fetch a breather mask from that wall..." Shortly thereafter the breather mask was on Claire and Vertuba had appeared with the medical kit.

16:21, Today: Power of the Darkside rolled 35 using 1d20+17 with rolls of 18. Treat Claire

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

Pugwis yollers for someone to remove Claire's armor, and with the medkit at his side, Pugwis quickly pops the lid off his surgery kit. Turning to help with the armor, he quickly snips through her undershirt, exposing Claire's breasts one more time. Someone might have complained about the treatment, but everyone knew that Claire didn't care who saw her nakedness. She bore scars and droid appendages like badges of honor, and there was a humanity to her even then.

Not pausing to enjoy the scenery, Pugwis grabs some gloves, and slaps on some alcohol and cleans a section of skin quickly and neatly. He then turns around and takes a scalpel in his gloved hands, and pierces the skin. There is a sudden gush of blood as the air comes out of her lungs, and he quickly sticks in a tube which hisses as the air escapes from the wound.

"Quickly..! Grab her legs and you, grab her from here... bring her to the medical nook... and grab me some light," Pugwis orders as he raises his hands. Once she was set down, he turned and waved you away. "No interruptions, got it?"

Kal resisted the urge to salute, but did respond, "Aye, Captain." He turned a glare toward Vertuba and gestured toward the cockpit, "Let's go."

Once he got there, he let Vertuba take the controls and opened a channel to Mirax again, "We're heading out of the asteroid field then on to Koshibal. The captain is trying to fix our wounded comrade."

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

Besides being a nervous wreck about Claire? I suppose it depends on whether or not Mirax is on board. If she is, I'd probably try to get her drunk chat with her. Though probably not about anything that is game-altering. Just basic RP stuff that could be done another time. I'd also pick the brains of our gracious hosts concerning Koshibal itself. In particular the layout, the power structure (both government and underworld), recent important events, etc.

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

Well, once they get out of the asteroid field itself, Mirax would dock up and do what she could to stabilize Claire.  While it might not be much, she might be able to induce a sort of Force Trance, similar to the meditation she would do when there isn't time for a sleep.  It would help keep her from dying at least.

Outside of that, she would probably hang about otherwise.  Chat with Kal, amaze him with her ability to remain not-drunk for longer than most... the usual.

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

A good fifteen minutes later, Kal and Vertuba get the Comet out of the asteroid field and plot a steady and slow course towards Koshibal. There is still a good hour before reaching the planet according to the nav computer, and with roughly 30 minutes to spare on the journey, Pugwis shows up and tells you that Claire is stable but that she'll need some bacta treatment when they landed...

"The better thing would be for her to stay put for a good month," he grumbled. She wouldn't be fit for any tournaments... "Meanwhile," his red eyes fell upon Vertuba, "I want to know what is on my ship..! I went to look at that crate and it's locked tight... I wouldn't dare touch it, the lock they have on it is one heck of a nasty one. You figure one of you can open her up without pissing it off?"  he asked those of you on the Comet.

ooc: BTW, if Mi isn't around, feel free to switch Mi to the fighter and for Mirax to get aboard the Comet. I see no sense in keeping him with you if he's not here to RP with you...

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

The moment the ship was out of the asteroid belt, Mirax guided the fighter underneath the Comet, towards one of its docking clamps.  The V-wing had surprised her, proving itself to be an aged but very capable fighter.  It was a little saddening that the other had met its end, but it had done so heroically.  Climbing out of the fighter, Mirax took a moment to massage her sore body - the cockpit wasn't well padded and the ship's inertia compensators weren't up to snuff, making for a rough ride - before she headed into the galley where the others were gathered.  She arrived just in time to catch the tail end of the conversation.

"So, got some cargo you didn't plan for, huh?"
She didn't know the full story, but based on the tone, it was obvious it was the reason for all of this, at least in part.  "Good thing I brought the master key," she said, slipping her lightsaber off her belt.  She twirled it in her fingers before them, unlit of course, with a raised eyebrow. "Shall we go crack it open then, and see what's inside?"

OOC: Fine with me.  I didn't mention it, but it would probably be best - though the ships can dock in a vacuum, I doubt that's an atmospheric-capable connection.

"Woooah..! You keep that laser away from that crate, y'hear..? I don't want it obvious that we opened the damn thing. If it is for Jaba, I need to be able to repackage it like it was before..." Pugwis grumbled. "Last thing I need to to be responsible for damaged goods...!"

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

Mirax shrugged, and clipped the saber to her belt once more.  "Fine, fine.  I suppose I could just use the Force... find the latch inside... and shift it to the 'open' position.  I mean, if you really want to do it the hard way..." She clearly was an advocate of the 'master key' idea.  She didn't see the problem either - someone had already tried to kill them over this, and that meant they were either an enemy of Jaba which meant they didn't care, or they were on Jaba's payroll and this was a trap.

Kal raised his eyebrows at that suggestion. He mostly addressed Mirax, "We should find out what's inside. If you can do it easily enough, please do so. Otherwise I can try my hand at it." Kal pulled out his security kit and started to select appropriate tools.

08:33, Today: Kal Wennyn rolled 17 using 1d20+9 with rolls of 8. Mechanics (only if Mirax fails).

Re: Episode 1: The Search for Luke Skywalker Begins

"All right then." Stepping up to the cargo, Mirax knelt down beside it, and placed her hand on the front, where the latch would be.  Closing her eyes, she reached out with the Force, feeling the inner workings of the lock until the found the latch - or latches if there were more than one.  If it was electronic, this would be even easier - she would just send a light jolt of energy along the circuits to unlock the latches, bypassing the code or key mechanism.  If it was traditional, then she would simply move them into the open position.

18:14, Today: Mirax Bey rolled 35 using 1d20+15 with rolls of 20. UTF: open cargo.

After a moment, Mirax heaved a sigh, and stepped back from the crate - a little farther back than before, as though she were wary of the crate.  "Well, I can tell you right now, neither of us are opening that thing," she said, crossing her arms.  "Its rigged to blow.  Probably enough to kill the safe-cracker, and if I know criminals... probably enough to blow a hole in the ship as well."

[Private to GM: Any chance the UTF roll told me what the contents were?  Not necessarily details, but size, shape, quantity?]

[Private to Mirax Bey:
You know that there the bomb, a complex locking mechanism connected to it... you know there's a sort of datapad in there, and the rest of the crate is filled with packets. Of what, you can't tell, but it wasn't all solid... maybe more powdery, actually.
