World Data

Wellesley is a slightly larger than Mars sized moon closely circling a small, Neptune-sized, 28,000km diameter gas giant.  Wellesley is tidelocked.  Reflected light from the gas giant, combined with light from the primary, is sufficient to raise the average surface temperature on the inner face to -5C. Weather tends to be windy, and tornadoes are a periodic hazard in less mountainous areas.  There is no axial tilt and virtually no seasons, though mean temperatures are slowing dropping as the gas giant approaches perihelion in its decades long orbit.  Gravity is 0.51G and atmospheric pressure 0.91 bar.  There are several mountain ranges and deep valleys as a result of tectonic stress.  The planet is reasonably suitable for agriculture, but only for hardy, cold-resistant crops and only in the so-called Lakes region of the inner face, where the only liquid water on the moon can be found, under ice sheets.

Suxeru is a largish captured body orbiting only slightly within the primary’s 100d limit.  The planet has no atmosphere to speak of, but much of the surface is covered in ice.  Average temperatures on Suxeru are a frigid -79C.  Kieran has established a tiny refueling station on a massive glacier.

Politics

Wellesley is an independent world which governs itself through the mechanism of a regularly elected community council.  Settlement meetings are held annually to discuss matters of importance.  Wellesley has been courted by the Halowon Empire, but has declined offers of annexation.  There is virtually nothing Wellesley could do should Halowon choose to force the issue.

The starport on Suxeru was established by Kieran, one of the member worlds of the Krim Confederation, to facilitate trade along the Tupolev-Krim arm.  It is staffed by conscientious objectors from Kieran, who have chosen civil service rather than military service for their period of conscription.  Personnel serve a single six month tour at the starport.  Yabloko Transport has a lone corporate representative at the facility.

Culture

People on Wellesley tend to be homespun and insular.  The small community is tight-knit and very loyal to each other.  Most Wellesleyns are proud of their independence and want nothing from the outside universe than occasional trade.

Colonization

Kieran’s small refueling outpost on Suxeru is the only putative “colony” in the system.

Economics

Wellesley exports an insignificant amount of agricultural goods and handcrafts for an equally insignificant volume of basic manufactured goods in return.

Industries

Yabloko Transport – An interstellar transport company based on Chelou.  They operate a fleet of three Fat Traders and two Free Traders.  Their rates are quite high.  The company maintains a single trade representative on Suxeru.

Shipyards

None.  The tiny starport on Suxeru can only support refueling.  No repairs are possible in the Wellesley system.

Military

None.  Occasional Halowon and Krim patrols visit, but there is no permanent military presence in the system.
