Discussion: Should we try moving this to IRC?
There is a possibility I could devote a weeknight on Wednesday or Thursday each week to running Distant Echoes. We could keep the RPOL site for through-the-week discussion, but it would afford us a weekly session which would allow the game to move forward a bit faster.

Would this appeal to people, or do you prefer to keep it as a play-by-post game?

One issue to consider (that we could work through, somehow, I'm sure) is whether people can reliably be free on whichever night.

I do like being able to take my time with drafting replies and like that DE isn't one of my many "recurring time" obligations.  On the other hand, it'd be nice to see things move a bit faster when possible.  Currently, I tend to view DE a bit like the Prince Valiant comic strip: it's very beautiful and detailed, but it takes Hal Foster and his successors so long to draw each panel that it takes three years of Sunday strips for much to happen.

Oh, and I don't know IRC programs will run on my current machine, but I am considering upgrading soon anyway.

The concern over time and timing is valid. I can guarantee there's an IRC program that will run on your machine if you can run ANY version of Skype, because there are versions of, if nothing else, mIRC that ran on machines that were out before Skype.

So the primary concern is whether a) people would like to try a shift in format, and b) whether we can find a mutually-agreeable day and time.

My thought is that it is something we could try, and we can always come back here if it doesn't work.

That said, I work from 2pm to 10pm MST Sunday through Thursday and can only get to the Internet via phone on those days.

After 6:30pm PST works for me on Thursdays during the school year. Almost any time otherwise. Saturday is relatively OK as well. I just have to clear it with my social adviser.

Other that Skype any other 'live chat' typing program would be OK with me. I wont run Skype because it eats my bandwidth to all kinds of hell and I pay for each GB out here in the middle of nowhere Texas.

My RL schedule is a little bit erratic, so I'm not certain I'll be able to schedule things in advance with any kind of certainty, but we can try?
