She perches on a chair, legs folded under her, rather then sitting properly.

"Everyone, and everything is gone from the farms around here."

In reply to Aya (msg #12):

"Well at least the farms that are 35 miles and farther out, specifically the three you sent us to. The farm farthest out had its fencing broken deliberately, with slats and beams broken out so that the fence was half-leaning. It would provide maximum access through the space the fence may once have cordoned off. The barn, on the other hand, simply looked to have its door caved in and its windows smashed. There were scuff marks and signs of many footprints on the ground, though none terribly deep. Most of the prints were hard souled boots, but there were punctures like the ones you would expect from weapons missing their targets and hitting the ground. The prints came in from the East and left where they came. It has been clear and dry in the area for the last week, which allowed me to follow the tracks to the main road. Some 10 to 11 miles out there were a large number of camp fires, obscured  from the ground, but observable from the air. They were cold, but not rained on."

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
Upon entering and looking around K's abode and nods appreciatively. "Dear K, who pray tell did you hire to build this splendid conveyance for you? I would like to inquire into their services, and perhaps if they would be willing to produce boat interiors, as well."

She has a seat primly on a chair, and listens to Aya and Merlin. She is about to ask Aya to quantify 'everything' until Merlin does just that. Once he's through she taps her chin a bit before saying, "This means I don't have the luxury of time to set this up as anything elaborate, then. A pity. We shall have to improvise. How difficult would it be for either of you to find those who did this, see if they are part of the armies of one or more of the Falanian feudal lords, and perhaps observe what livery they wear or who they work for? I wish to find the one responsible for this, and win back the people and perhaps the livestock we lost. And then I shall have words with them." Despite the turn of phrase, her tone is rather lacking in anger or menace as she says this.

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
"It would take them making another attempt. I followed them as far as I could with my meager tracking skills. Without knowing at least a names or faces of the those taken it would require specialized tracking magic, which I do not posses. With names it would take much time and effort to find an individual. If they are smart they are taking them to a part of the kingdom as far away from their homes as possible. With appropriate knowledge of where the nobles homes are I am sure I could sneak in and overhear their private discussions, but again, that will take time."

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
Beatrix nods. "I have met many of the farmers myself, and negotiated with them. I can offer detailed descriptions of those, and I'm sure there are merchants around town we can glean details of the rest from. Do you think this would be sufficient to find any of those who were abducted? If we can find even one of them, however, that is a link enabling us to find out who ordered this, and from them we can get the locations of the rest."

In reply to Beatrix LeSchaye (msg #16):

"Descriptions will help, especially if you can draw them. Names will make things easier. A map of Falan would be especially helpful, as well as any known freeholds near or in their borders. The more people looking, the better. Aya and I can head out to the farthest areas that they could have made it in a week."

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
Beatrix nods at what Merlin says. "Then you shall have them, names, descriptions, and even sketches if I can find some artists. Maps of Falan and the surrounding areas are easy to come by, and shall be provided, although there is nothing of much interest in the immediate area; at least, nothing that could carry out an operation such as this. Unless of course there is an army camping somewhere and we as yet unaware of it."

She pauses briefly, considering and seeming slightly upset. "I believe in this instance the direct route will be best. Moving into Falan by horseback or ship and and being properly outraged over having our citizens abducted like this, and investigating in an official capacity, we will probably be able to get much farther than if we attempted subtlety. It is likely one of the feudal lords who has done this, and it should be fairly simple to get assistance from another feudal lord who dislikes the one responsible. Alternately, if Falan is not behind this, they will likely want to lend whatever aid they can, seeing as they probably do not wish their people abducted any more than we do. Merlin, Aya, if you are willing, further scouting would be greatly appreciated. They are likely on foot or going by cart; either way, I doubt they've made it to Falan yet, if that is indeed their destination."

"And, of course, if anyone else has suggestions, I am quite willing to listen."

"We could secure a boat," offers Hun.

"Or start hiring horses," suggests Poe. "How would you prefer to be traveling?"

Both young people are struggling visibly to maintain their business-like composure. The brief cracks they fight to hold back show a mix of horror, fear, anger, and sorrow over what they're hearing.

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
In reply to Segev Stormlord (msg #20):

As everyone talks, K slowly spins in her giant seat until her head winds up hanging upside-down off the cushion while her giant shoed feet lean against the chair's back. "I know someone with a boat, of sorts. I think it can fly. Good size. And... armed. The Captain's good at this sort of thing, but also wanted by some people. Certain pro-slavery people would have to swear to some... digression." K raises an eyebrow and gives a look at Sevastian & young Frevrick.

Beatrix pauses. "A flying boat," she says incredulously. "If such a thing really exists, then it would be a most excellent solution to the question of how to get there." She smirks. "It would seem you have a knack for traveling in style, K."

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
Sevastian walks around the room, still lightly playing his violin.
"Might I be so bold as to suggest a bit of misdirection?"

He moves to K's chair, stops, and smiles down at the precariously positioned woman, then turns back to Beatrix, not bothering to continue walking.
"I and Frevrick can not easily pass as mortals.  So we should not."

The dragon starts into an almost militaristic theme in his music.
"You march there with he and I in tow.  Surely any country in these parts will have seconds thoughts about a woman of your reputation flanked by two dragons."

Sevastian seems to dance to the other side of K's chair, his leg jostling her hat a bit, and grins widely.
"We do this while our more discrete friends stay hidden."

He moves back behind K's seat and leans over it, hovering above the woman with his ever present grin.  His dark shoulder length hair falls forward around his face, his face that is not terribly far to the side of the little womans legs.
"The more show we make, the more they will think you bring only us.  They may suspect you have other powerful friends in hiding with you, but who would guess 4 other exalts?"

He continues to lean over K's chair and begins playing a soft but up beat piece.

Beatrix thinks a moment and nods. "Certainly. We will simply need ways to convey messages between each other without letting the people of Falan know we're working together. If we are to create the illusion that we are two unaffiliated groups, we should ensure that we do it properly. No matter how legitimate our cause for being there, if we are behaving suspiciously it will draw the sort of attention that we do not want."

Sevastian smiles down at K, then hearing Beatrix he looks up and smiles.

He moves to the others side of the room, his violin still playing softly, he mouths something inaudible.  Seconds later Beatrix hears a soft whisper in her ear, unheard by any other.

"I maybe able to assist with that."
It says in Sevastians voice.

"But I must have a general location and personage's name to accomplish it.  Sadly, it is only one way."
He adds out loud.

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
Bea is quiet for a moment, thinking, before saying "Very well. Two groups, then, as the worthy Sevastian suggests. I will go to Duke Amaran of Oredol, who controls the territories along Falan's western border; his duchy includes three counties, Rolling Green, Riverside, and Reeds. In addition to Sevastian and Frevrick," she nods to the butlers in turn, "I would like you to come with me, K, if you are willing. You may need to come in some manner of disguise, as bringing a jester on an official mission to tell another nation how outraged we are by the abduction of our citizens may seem somewhat strange. This is, of course, assuming your circus will be alright on its own."

"Aya, Merlin, you are the other group. Since you are more mobile than the rest of us, you can check around the various counties and baronies to see if anything obviously suspicious is going on. We will update you whenever we learn something new." She frowns, and then glances around the room. "Regular meetings would be best, but we do not want to implicate each other. Are any of you talented in disguise?"

(OOC: She asks this of a room with a Lunar and a Sidereal in a Resplendant Destiny in it!)

Beatrix nods to Sevastian. "That could work. I would prefer to have someone who can disguise themselves on both teams, however. This way we can be sure to have the ability to talk to each other without either group becoming affiliated with the other."

In response to Merlin's question, she raises an eyebrow and smirks a little. "While that would certainly be a terribly useful skill that will no doubt aid you on your mission, I believe it may render meaningful conversation difficult."

Re: Regrouping, answers, and questions
With the plan in place, the duo of industrious teens arrange horses for each of the Exalts who indicated a need. Beatrix doubtless has her own stabled at her estate, but Hun and Poe have also thoughtfully gathered feed for horses and trail rations for people...including themselves.

Actually getting on the road is a fairly simple matter. There are no authorities to question their exit, and Beatrix only has to fend off a half-dozen or so visitors who want to discuss business.

How the group splits up and how far ahead the scouts go remains to be determined, but at the pace of the "official" delegation's horses, that group likely will arrive in Falan in roughly six days. Maybe seven, at the longest, before reaching the first Baronial keep. Depending on how the scouting group travels, they could be there much sooner.

((OOC: Sorry for taking so long, but I was trying to forumlate two new thread starts, and realized I still needed to run with this one a little longer, finally.
