Xyran smiled, a bit pleased with the outcome, "Well Osk i look forward to fighting along side you in the days to come... now when your ready i have some things to tell you"

 Hack  Nodded   and  Moved off. Osk and Venna  waited  nibbled thier pie as they waited to see what   Xy had   to say.

Roy grimaced.  "Every war has people who regretted getting involved.  And there's been an awful lot of people throughout history who joined up for all the right reasons and let their enthusiasm get subverted into something darker."

He shrugged.  "Case and Flores were extremely lucky, yeah...but there are those who know they're no longer fighting for the cause that got them to sign...and if they don't find a way to either bow out of the fight or find an ESN or EMS detachment to get into, I've got no sympathy for them.  It's a war...you're already risking your life every day.  So why risk it for a cause you oppose?  If you're already gambling, gamble on a good cause.  Risk what you need to get out, and find someone whose fight is something you believe in."

 Shadow   gave a nod,..Yo know what's off  about this last sweep?... There were as  many real targets as there were fake ones?... and in the end, we had  to wipe out  the  whole damn nest of 'resistance'....... Shade  gunned three  pairs  of  EDT  assassins , that were gonna kill Bren... and  , Yeah.. chewed up the man's legs a bit.... But  it  turns out , they sent  folks to knock him off?... why would he  be one of our marks?... Now?. he's  this  Station's   'Elge'...

Xyran takes a deep breath, "Deliver a package in person to the head of the Occui council on my behalf" a simple task but he couldn't discuss what it contained.

   Osk and Venna  Looked at  each other,why?.. of course?.. but if   you survive?.. You could take it there yourself...no?

 Finnes  spoke up,... If... something bad  would happened to XT, he would need to have it in his last instructions, that the  packeage is left to you..

Xyran shook his head, "I cannot Osk for i am no longer welcome there... any case i appreciate it" He then turned to Finnes, "You are free to do as you please Finnes im gonna head back to my quarters and rest"

Roy shrugged.  "Considering who gave us the list of targets, it makes me wonder who else on the list was giving EDT headaches out here.  I mean, some of them were clearly legitimate targets for us...mine was a huge EDT moneyman, so there was good reason for us to want him...but it wouldn't surprise me if Beth found out he was siphoning funds on the sly...and they did have guards on duty with him...just the guards were dumb enough to let slip that they weren't legit.  If they'd been smarter, we could have been inside and they could have backdoored us and wiped us out...so it's not like we were given a clean target.  Doc Christie's target was legit...but I don't think they counted on Larry, or on the Doc's combat experience with us...they thought we were just sending in a nice old man."

He shrugged, and added, "Does leave you wondering, though, how many of those targets were people on the verge of changing sides.  Guessing they were banking on their cover staying intact...if we got rid of the targets, their position was stronger...if we got iced, they had deniability."  He scowled a little, sipped his drink, and added, "But I'm sure, if Beth had a day with those personnel files, we'd have found more on that list than just your guy that wanted to get out from under the EDT."

  Shadow   tilted his head  back and  forth,well?  however  it  shakes out..  when we  get a list..  I may use  instinct  on whether they get capped or not?.. But.. in the ned..if there is  the slightest doubt.. they get capped..

 Larry Looks  back  and thumps his tail   twice.

Roy grinned at Larry's reactions.  He still had suspicions about the larg's actual intelligence, but right now, Larry's behavior was so typical of Earth canines that those suspicions were buried behind questions of how a lizard-like creature on a very different evolutionary path in a distant section of the galaxy could develop so many behavioral similarities...and an awareness that his grasp of things like evolutionary science was so slim thay he'd likely have a hard time following the explanation if anyone ever did try to explain it all to him with any detail.

"Hey, I'm a firm believer in that whole 'enemy of my enemy' train of thought...sometimes, they actually DO turn out to be friends.  I mean, how many ships are in the Fleet now from Beta Quad, planets that were unwilling vassals to the Demons?"  He chuckled siftly and looked down at Larry.

"They just haven't all proven as...enthusiastic...as Larry..."  He sighed, his expression growing sober.

"I'm hoping Besserman can follow that path...go the route that Frans and Eckles did.  But if he doesn't get his attitude squared away, he's gonna be flying shuttles in the Delta colonies...or worse."

Bodies    'accidently' found in Dumpsters.... Beserman's Oldest Son  was a Big Game hunter.. he was  Found In a  Mob Casino  nailed to the wall..The Cops  had to step in.... but the whole time this   three way war  was going  on..  Bodies  were dropping all over the Docks... in the alleys  by the Hermes.. Then?.... The Bessermans   Left New York..Sold some of thier  stuff to   the Mob...  the rest to  'unkown' folks who were just as  bad...

 Looking at Roy he added,..The HArdest thing   Roles  and I ever  did, was   get on that plane to Sandiego..knowing, there  wouldn't be anyone, taking our place...Next time we hit Earth.. I'm  going to  take some time, to check out  my old neighborhood.... Just to see...

Roy nodded at Shadow's comment and explanation.  "At this point, the question is in Admiral Hack's hands.  He's got Besserman down in SEC, watching news reports of all the crap the EDT and EVOLs have been attached to and all the stuff the ESN has dealt with, since, according to Besserman, the inly news feeds they got on Matterhorn were apparently pirated signals full of EVOL propaganda about Ranier.  That's to try and get him up to speed, and Hack's also making some inquiries to find out just what the story is behind his transfer."  Roy sipped his drink.

"And I get the animosity.  That's a lot of bad history to just swallow and put behind you, and that's just assuming there's no worse details waiting to turn up.  But, hey...I threatened to shoot both Frans and Raven at different points during our first year out, and look at what they turned into."  He chuckled and shrugged, before resuming, in a more serious tone, "All I ask, if he passes the Admiral's vetting process, is that you give him a fair shake.  It'll be hard...but he deserves the same chance as EVOL or SSN pilots who've come over.  The bad blood will probably never go away, unless he shocks the hell outta me and pulls a bigger about-face than Frans did...but give him a chance to sink or swim on his own merits.  Don't crucify him on his daddy's cross. "  Or his aunt's..., Roy added mentally...

   The LC  chuckled  Softly,..Yeah.. we'll see.. I fought beside alot of  folks  i  didn't like.... Besserrman   will be  a  Challenge...

  A few tail thumps, Larry  Looked back over at Roy,..Algith?.. But if   goes home, or doesn't want you around. head  down to the Hanger Dec... My  place.. or somewhere  safe?...

 Shadow  Grabbed his take out which was now  cold,..and No   Begging!

  he  went   off towards the    elevator..  Larry lowered his ehad at the admonishment.

Roy chuckled at the larg's response.  "Don't worry, Larry...I'm not sending you away anytime soon.  And like I told Shadow, I've never seen you beg for food.  People just like feeding you, is all..."  He thought about Shadow's final comments about Besserman...his own instincts were conflicted, but he felt the man needed either a chance to prove himself...or enough rope to hang himself.

Besides all that, keeping Besserman close at hand meant they had some kind of an 'in' on Lady V.  If Besserman could be brouggt around to recognizing the EDT as the thugs they were, he might even be able to help them lure her out into the open.  But that was abig 'if'...they'd have to determine, first, whether Besserman was staying with the Fleet or becoming a Delta Colony shuttle pilot.

  Larry sat for a while  watchign  folks  come and Go. Now and then he  turned to make sure Roy was still there.

 some music  started , some folks putting  Creds  into the machine, to dance Cara  and Man  came on the Dec to grab a beer after  patrol.

 Shoey was back from his    shore leave, looking happy , if  not  tired

 Frans   was  sitting by herself  stewing.. Gia  and Eckles  talked  one table away

Roy didn't finish the bottle...doing so would have left him highly inebriated, depending on how long he took with it, but he was literally drinking to distract himself from how he felt about Cummings' actually earning a legitimate compliment, and the acidic flavor of the sangria did a good job of that, as well as reminding him of a lot of fond moments associated with the flavor (most of them being celebrations of successful missions.)

That thought got him feeling hungry, and he flagged down Dana to request a steak dinner.  It had been a while since his last meal, he realized, and drinking on an empty stomach was potentially dangerous.  "Bring one for Larry, too..." he added, with a laugh.  He looked down at the larg.

"And don't worry, I know you didn't beg for it.  But you've damn well earned it, a few dozen times over, I'd say," he told Larry.

Shoemaker's arrival on deck caught his eye, and he waved the sergeant over.  "Well, you look like you've had a good time...been out hunting Vampics?  Or just generally carousing?" he asked, with a big grin.  He gestured for Shoemaker to take a seat.

  Larry's  Mouth  opened  , in what looked like a grin and his  tail  thumped  rapidly.

   Dana  smiled,..Coming  Right up SM.. and..Um... The Cook at the  steak  stand?.. he  has alot of .. trimmigns left?.. You want i should bring them for Larry? Larry Titled his eha d almost    sidelways..


 Shoey came over,Oh Man.. SM.. there  was this girl.. right... and she takes  me   to her hosue..  well... turns out she has a sister?... and..they really like ESN   types....

 Anyway...  Cora  calls  me on  her COM she  was with some dude  from Anzio and they were   up  on that..North  Axis park?.. turns out.. she found a  hatch... so   I show up  with   Brooks, who was  hanging around watchin' the troops ..anyway.. we  find  , like 6 Vampics in this tunnel.. we only had   sidearms.. but Brooks?.. he has  4  Bricks of C-10... anyway.. we blew them to Bits..and..well.. spend  2 hours  in  a APF  holding Cells, Until  Brooks   said  he wanted his none call to go to Shadow.. the   SGT there decided to let us go... oh?..yea.. Cora's  Date  ran like the  nine hells.. must have  lapped the Axis  twice by now...
