Zob finished his meal and coffee and once the waitress went by he had his wrist scanned to pay his bill. Standing up he took a look around for a moment and gave a small wave to Nikki and went down to the gym to go work off breakfast.

Re: RECDEC 7
"Just a soda, to go, thanks...no ice," Roy explained to Dana.  "Making the rounds of my SEC people...checking morale and all that.  People expect it to be a boring assignment when they pull the short straw and get left on board during assault actions...I think the only time we've had so many casualties in a boarding attempt was when the Creshians hit us...and maybe the Hyrians...and both times, we were expecting their attack.  I'm not worried that anyone's losing their nerve, but...well, just seems like a good time for the guy in charge to come around and tell everyone he's got faith in them, individually or in small groups, rather than just doing a blanket announcement.  Y'know?"  He actually didn't know if she knew...he wasn't even sure it was the right thing to do.  But it felt right to him, and if anyone had doubts or worries that they were one action away from the Golden BB, this was the best time to air it out...either let them talk it out, or give them the chance to transfer off the ship at Fuji, where they could be quickly replaced.

As Dana went to get his order, he turned and watched the vid feed Shadow was playing.  While there was a look of grim satisfaction on his face, he displayed none of the enthusiastic glee that might have been expected.  "Good riddance to bad garbage, as they used to say," he replied, once the playback ended.  "I'm not sure he didn't get a cleaner death this way than if they'd recovered him intact...but there's two more vessels no longing hiding out in The Triangle, and that's worth something."  He gave Shadow a nod as his soda arrived.

"Just make sure you're not so focused on giving them a bloody nose that you punch the wrong guys and lose us potential allies.  If we're going to win this war, we can't become the New Demon Empire in the process."

"Please...Thank you" she said to Jason as they continued to help her understand the books.  She gave Sneak a wink and smile when she brought the iced tea.  "How about a peanut butter sandwich, banana, and a bag of plain potato chips?" after all it was still near the lunch hour.

----Balck Hanger--->

Melia wanders back onto the recdec towel still draped over her shoulder, and over shirt hanging out of a pocket of her dark grey tactical pants, and a white tank top that is sufficiently modest. Still she feels her heart pick up a few beats when she walks in and sees people at the tables. What did you expect? she thinks to herself, realizing that everyone in the room can see all the scars on her shoulders, chest, and arms. The black masses, the bright yellow. All of it. She debates putting her shirt back on and hiding the marks, hiding her body. But a fear of looking weak fights with the fear of being oogled or seen, and she quickly finds a table near enough to people to hear the conversations, but safely away where she can escape if needed. She orders a fruit smoothie, and a small burger medium rare. A sits back and tries to focus on letting go of the anxiety. This is the Hermes, this is home.... she tells herself over and over again like a mantra to manage her anxiety.

Re: RECDEC 7
Roy gave Shadow a nod of acknowledgment as the LC headed for the Hangar Deck...then snorted softly at the notion of Larry becoming a bother.  While not everyone in Sec was totally comfortable with the larg, they'd all come to accept his presence...and Roy was just bull-headed enough to force them to deal with their discomfort.

When Dana got back with the drink, he grinned at her comment.  "Well, you know me, Dana...I'm not an officer.  They may treat me like one, expect orders from me like one...but I'm a sergeant.  Like you guys, I work for a living, I've just been doing it a really long time so even the officers feel like I know what I'm doing...they're just smart enough to shut up and listen, most of the time."  He chuckled softly.

"That's the nice thing about how Hack runs the Fleet.  Doesn't matter so much what kind of costume jewelry is on your uniform...rank only gets you so far.  Being good at your job...no matter what it is...carries a lot more weight.  And you head up a damned sharp team of people here.  You keep up with everyone's appetites when there's a party in session, you take no crap when someone gets carried away, and you don't get caught up in the nonsense when somebody's had too much to drink or is feeling their oats a little too strong.  I've worked with a lot of officers who were a lot worse at running their outfits than you are."  He raised his soda in a toast.

She looks at Justin and Harry "It's an old family favorite" she shrugged. As she continued to get help figuring out the formulas and understanding exactly what the hell a few things meant.  Nothing like translating the gas compression flow rate for the 37 mm hard ammo barrel to compensate the recoiling action.

Melia, smiles at the waitress. The relaxing just slightly, "Its a lot like pro sports where the margin of victory is measured by milliseconds of speed, ounces of strength, and pure force of will. Anything to gain an edge, the difference is the stakes that margin is how we stay alive and keep those we love alive. On the other hand I don't envy you. You're on your feet long hours, and very dependent on who comes in to eat and who doesn't.  Plus you have to talk to everyone" she gives a small shudder at the last statement.

Re: RECDEC 7
”A bacon sarnie would be lovely, thank you“ Harry said in friendly acceptance of Justin’s offer of lunch, having had very little to eat as a result of this mornings hangover. It was as they were waiting for their order to arrive, including Nikki’s rather bizarre choice of sandwich filling, that Harry would try her best to help her friend with the equations within the text book in front of her. Truth be told many of the equations she hadn’t used since her exams as the flight computer did many of them automatically whereas some of the others were only useful if you were planning on being a grounds crewman or a designer ”Honestly you’re probably better off jumping into the SIMs and taking a Nova out for a spin, you’ll soon learn it’s capabilities, isn’t that so Justin?” She said seeking the other pilots opinion on the matter.

Re: RECDEC 7
"Wait..." she smiled then spread the peanut butter on both pieces of bread.  The sliced banana she arranged on the creamy tan raft.  The other side she opened the chip bad and placed onthe other slice.  Then placed it together.  The marshmallow she put to the side.  "Got your fruit, protein, carbs, and sugar, as well as a bit of salt.  both creamy and crunchy.  A Tennessee slider" she cut it in half then took one half and cut it in forths.  Only about 2 bites worth, she gave to Sneak,  Harry, and Justin to atleast try. She ate tje remaining quarter first to show them it would not kill them.  She even dipped it in the marshmallow.  "Tell him I'll marry him" she joked.

In reply to Harriet Lynch (msg # 922):

The SIM's do assist to get a handle on flight calculations. Justin agreed, giving Harry a thumbs up. However there's nothing quite like actual experience. For example in Atmosphere, SIM's don't expose you to G force or limitations imposed in Fighter handling

In reply to Nicole Rutledge (msg # 924):

Justin slipped a cred note, which more than covered the three's order, into Sneaks hand tanking her. Watching Nicole fill the sandwich with interest he was surprised she offered them a piece to try. Taking the segment, he popped it into his mouth chewed then swallowed. Giving Nicole a smile. Thank you Nicole;  seeing your short 1/4 did you want another order? he offered

she gave a laugh at Sneaks joke.  Then looking at Justin she lifted her other half "Actually this is good.  I mostly have a big breakfast when I can small lunch big dinner,  maybe a snack  now and then.  Harry?  Try it at least."  She took a rather large sip of her iced tea. "My luck today with the SIMS?  Feeling lucky I didn't cause them to explode like a warhead" With her help she managed to find X.  "You know I did get one RedTail back on the Pit.  I was scrafing an APV and it blew up and I went through the cloud .  Peaeled off to come around from the side to make sure he was dead.  By the time I got to that point a Red Tail popped out of the same fire cloud right in front of me.  Couldn't duck so had to blow him up and fly through his debris cloud.  thats where I took a lot of damage to the Diamond."

Melia thanked the waitress, "I can hardly say anything about running into harm's way,  since well you kind of ride into on this tin can just like the rest of us."  She smiles a bit at her own dry joke handing the waitress a generous tip. "Honest, all the civies, you're all braver than we are.  We sign up to go in harm's way to protect people. You make your home on a warship, taking the risk every day of your homes and families everyday with less control over it than we do. She takes a bite of the burger.

Roy set off on his rounds, with Larry following...starting at the tail end of the ship, going through and taking a minute to chat with every SEC trooper or team on duty (and the ones he ran into who were off duty, as well) as he made his way forward...'taking the temperature', as it were, to assess the overall morale of his personnel.

”sorry...yeah... I was just having flashbacks to the time I was poisoned for a minute there” Harry said eying the piece of sandwich she’d been given before cautiously taking a bite. Strangely enough, contrary to what she imagined it would taste like it actually kind of worked ”hmm...interesting...well at least it’s better than marmite” she said before finishing the morsel. Continuing to help Nikki with her studies she would listen as her friend spoke of the kill she’d got during their  encounter in the pit ”Hey congrats, once you learn to fly one of these babies we’ll look at getting you a Blue Max of your own” she said with a smile as she added ketchup to her bacon sarnie. The Tennessee slider had been alright but this was the food of the gods!

Melia nodded in agreement and dug into her burger. She ate quickly savoring the juicy bloody burger. She watched the antics of the pilots to one side, a working lunch from what she could see. She smiled at Roy giving him a small wave as he headed out.

Finishing her burger and smoothie Melia decides to head over to the civie section to pick up Orria. There's just enough time for some sleep, and to prepare for what Fuji had in store for them though.

She gave a smile to both "Hoping for a day we won't have to fight.  But until then I have no problems putting my life on the line so others can breathe easier" Though her family was poor, it had a lot of history.  From almost the time her family arrived in what was then the United States, someone served for the greater good. From being a 'Minute Man' to having brothers serve opposite side in the American Civil war.  Even being Part of the Volunteers from Tennessee when called.  She had one other distinction though, she was the first one to be an 'Officer'.  Now it was her turn to add to the family history.  She needed to show her measure.
