Garrat turns to Dana while Sneak is talking to Shadow, “Can I borrow Sneak for a moment?”

    Joseph shows up with Nicole, "Saw you headed here with yer instrument lass.  Thought you could use some back up.  An there is a song I have been wanting to hear you sing if'n yer interested."

 Dana  looked at Garrat, her   eyes  shifted  to the   happy Gorl then Back,..sure.. just remember  she  on the clock so  any one she missed, might  be a tip she misses...

 Then she rolls her  eyes,..Unless its    those  damned  germans!

   Garrat nods then goes to Sneak "Sneak, I need to speak with you a moment."

    Sneak  Nods  and Put s the   container she was  using  for    used   dishes  and stuff  down  and they walk off to the Side.

  ..what's  Up?.. anything  wrong?  she looks at him trying to read him,  like she was on the street again.

    Garrat pauses.  "Sneak, there ARE going to be times when things are wrong, and this IS one of them, but I need you to understand I'm not tearing you down for my own purposes.  I'm concearned about you."

   Garrat glances about to make sure no one is listening. "I was going to catch youand talk with you at the house but we both have been busy ad keep missing eachother."

   Garrat pauses for a moment.  "First, I understand you were pissed at the Germans and they got what they had coming but when I pay you money to put their food in to go boxes, your refusal to do so was an afront to me, as a customer, not them.  Next time please do as I ask.

   "Second, I care about you and chose to do that to protect you.  I understand it worked out well in the end, but some things could have been avoided and I could have been in a better position if theydidn't have a reason to yell at you.  So there was a reason behind it all, though I understand if you couuldn't see it."

   "Third, you really are my family now.  In my culture that carries more weight than you can understand.  I cannot allow insult or injury to stand against you otherwise undesirable elements will think I am weak.   I need to know immediately if there is a problem.  Jax is your family too.  He needs to know as well.  Outside of combat I will keep you informed about me."

   "Fourth, as your Guardian it is my task to help guid your future.  I want you to get caught up on schooling, and I want you to learn some strategy based games and exercises.  You may be a civilian but you are on a combat ship.  I want  you to be strong and capable on a physical level.  Bright side this will be training you can do with Jax.  Down side is you will have to make time for it.  I will give you an allowance which is money the head of a house hold allows minors to use to fullfill their needs and wants.  This should compensate for lost hours on the Rec-Deck."

    "Fifth, nine out of ten times I butt into your business or put my foot down it is because I'm taking my job as your adopted father seriously.  Please work with me when I have concerns.  It is for you.  There is no running away.  This is your place now."

    Garrat slides some hard credits across to her, "This is for any tips you lost during this conversation.  Did you have any questions?"

  She  took the proferred  creds  and  slip them into he apron.... she looked  at him, trying to hide the sterness  behinf her own eyes.

  ..have you any   idea  how old  I am?...... and think ..how many  people  my age   do you see alive in the  Stems you have visited?.... They like little ones..  they fit into small places.. they tug at people's heart strings.. and all that5  gives them Creds.... when we get to big.. Guys like  JaX are sent out  into the street, to  steal and  jack Hover cars... and all that...  Girls .. have a few other uses... and    I would have  been doing  those  had   not  Jax  and  I  used  Strategy...That was the  thing  that  kept us alive..out smarting the Gangers  who thought  kids  were   dumb..

 ..we  can work together... But  I'm  not a pet..and?..   If   those germans had been friend s of yours.. I would have taken the creds.. because ytur friend swould have  paid you back... but  they aren't.. and the wouldn't have.. I was  lucky enough to have a job like this on Etna... but  I saw  women working, and what they had to put up  with.. and   a broke  a few  fingers of gangers  who stepped out of line.. I can't  do that here..., but i may have  made  an exception for  those   germans!

    Garrat did have an idea unless her chip was stolen.  He even knew her given name.  His counter was simple. "Do you have an Idea how old I am?"

    "No, your not a pet.  yes, you would have been forced to do things you shouldn't be forced to do.  That life is behind you.  No life is free of chains in one way or another.  Not dealing with all the crap in the stem anymore means you have to deal with other crap.  Until you are a full eighteen I am legally obligated to take care of you as I see fit.  Giving you the education to reach your full potential is part of that.  What you do with it is up to you.

    "Sneak, People your age die on the streets every day not because they don't have a strategy but because every day is a roll of the dice.  YOU would have been dead if I hadn't gotten myself involved in your affairs, or did you forget that you were bleeding out and I saw to your wounds.  Your strategy was good, but it wasn't enough."

    Garrat sighs and leans back "I only have a few years to make sure you have all the tools I can give you and then you are on your own.  I'll be there for you after that if you want but I don't have as much power to help you.  If I wasn't your father I could not have wiped the floor with that bastard and avoided a court martial.   You couldn't have handled him on your own.  He was a highly trained professional, if you don't believe me I can arrange a sparring match between you and one of his lackeys, and you can learn about their training first hand."

    "This world isn't fair.  Stem, upper, lowers earth, on a ship. Your not going to get a free shot honestly.  Next time I step in, know there is a reason and trust me.  In return I Will listen to you.  Your feelings are important to me but know, my experience is so far beyond yous you can't tell me anything I haven't hed similer experiences with first hand."

   Garrat smiles a little. "We need to sit down and have some get to know eachother time.  For now, know this is all about me giving a damn."

     Sneak  crossed  he r  arms   and Looked  around for a bit, then said,..I was  dead.. and that's for certain... so  was Jax.....at ;east 4  Kid s  died  as he tried to give them a chance to  run... couple were missing..might still be down there somewhere?

 ..but it  wasn't a mistake  I was shot.. and it wasn't a mistake   Jax  was sent into those  trucks..with us Gone... all those  kids   could have  been Sold... Lifter  was the  only one who might have been able to  lead them Dice?   could have  helped.. Roll?.. well... he  woulda  died...Canny  and Score  might have   escaped..depends  on how soon the   bosses  reeled them in..

  ..Look.. we'll talk..but  i have to  get back... LC  told Jax, the only thing  no one can take from you is  your honor...you throw that away... I gonna honor  my Commintment   with Dana  and the others...

   She  gave  a wan   smile , picked up her  tub of   dishes  and   headed to teh stalls.

  Shadow   Gave  Garrat  a half smile and raised his  glass of  soda  to him.

One of the host of talents Justin had acquired diuring his time in the Sisters of Mercy was lip reading. This skill had saved him a quite a lot of difficult situations. As he sat staring at the porthole he watched the reflection of others in on the rec deck. ooc specifically Garrat and Sneak

She let Dana and Sneak wander off to do what they needed to do.  You can't hold up progress.  She waved as Joseph showed up "Hey"she greeted. then let him speak.  "A new tune..sure...right now so long as it is not a polka" broadly.  she hoisted her guitar up to learn it.  "Haven't seen you in a few days...how you been doing?"

Haley was having fun with another girl about her age as they played with the clompers.  Laughing, giggling, and falling.

Nothing much with me, I thought you may need something to take the edge off the difficult situation you appear to be having. chinning in the direction of Sneak. Maybe the lass could find a different way to earn credits. Would you know what other interests she has, she looks like she may be a dab hand at survival training or perhaps sports instruction.

Nikki made her smile go a bit more crooked than normal and used an index finger to tap her chin, all in thought.  After nearly a minute her eyes lit up, she coughed a moment then adjusted her guitar.  She began to use the core like a drum and beat the drum sound out.  She nodded and smile broadly "Rollin' in the Deep?" she looked at him and began to sing to it, the cough making her voice a bit deeper and more gravelly for it.

Justin gave a shrug; it sounded like Garrat intended to manoever Sneak into a path of his choosing. Good to see you've got the contingencies covered. How long are you allowing Sneak before you steer her towards the next step in your developmental progression?

   "Already in progress.  I am getting her caught up on education first.  It should open her eyes to the world beyond the rec deck and help her understand the talents and skills she developed on the stem.  A good next step will be social raids on the stems where she shows other lost souls a way out.  I can initiate that at the next station we come across.  I just wanted to give her one shore leave at least to get her feet under her self.  Next shore leave we look at the problem to see what can be done.  That is what she is familiar with and it will help a lot of people.  I just need to find a place for the kids to go once she get's them out of there. Garrat looks out to see that Shadow and Shade had left.  He had a bad feeling in his gut.  Now I probably should get back to medical, I saw the end of things down in the hold and I get the feeling an outside observer will be needed.

Haley waved at the big scary Viking.  She was on her clompers at the moment. She waved and called "Hi Mr. Garrat!  OOmppphh!"she had let go of one band on one shoe to waved and promptly fell over.  she rolled a bit to sit on her butt.  She was laughing and giggling.  The other girl with her at the moment gave her a hand to get up then.

in the background one could hear Nikkis singing and the guitars.

   Garrat couldn't help himself, he scooped her up for a moment just before he left. "Hey there big Girl, when you going to stop growing?"  The vantage point of Garrat hieght gave Haley a whoole new view of the deck.

Joseph smiles and backs her up.

  "Thanks lass, I haven't heard that one in ages.  Now give me back up while I dust another one off."  Joseph uses peddles hooked to the key board to cycle the drums while his hands work his guitar.  If Nicole wants to get some led out on the rift he steps back to rythm for her to take the lead.
