We advanced to the first pair of doors, Shade said there were Verians behind one, he broke the door open, I tossed in a grenade, and he capped the wounded.  The other door hasn't been checked yet, I'm leaving it to either the rest of the team or the second team to handle, I want to get us spread out enough that a lucky shot with an RPG won't kill or injure almost everyone down there.

Re: OOC #29

And it turned out 5he FB post I saw yesterday that led to me thinking I was going to be doing 'regular' painting today was poorly phrased...or the woman who posted it hadn't been brought fully up to speed on the plan...

There was some regular painting, yes...they had most recently done "Rock of Ages", apparently, and the stage walls had been painted with graffiti for various rock bands, etc, so that all had to be painted over.  But they also had a bunch of set pieces for their next show.  So, I ended up helping paint a set, instead of painting some theater walls.  Someone had bought a bunch of chip brushes to use...those things are horrendous for large projects.  After struggling with one for a couple of hours, I went to the local dollar store and bought some cheap "real" paintbrushes (spent $10, brought back 26 brushes in various sizes...I think those brushes are as cheap or cheaper than the chip brushes, in terms of cost, but they're SOOOO much better to paint with.  And you can actually clean 5hem and get more than one good paint session out of them.)

So, yeah...pretty much nothing, today, ended up going as expected.

Re: OOC #29

small game  4 on 5.. i got the extra guy since i'm almost dead...

17 degress at the field, but?  for  some reason, no wind!!( there's  always wind in that stadium)

 Sun was out..pretty good day!

.............

now..a Game thing.. Harry  came up with an Idea .. gonna  tweak it about   first..but it will be for survival.

I'm thinking  there will be a 'catch all' ( that we have now)..for over all survival..in that you know  simple 1st aid.. get water.. tunnel runs add to  endurance all that stuff..

but there may be a sub category for  differant climates ( for want of a better  word)

like Arctic, Jungle , forest, desert , swamp, underground...

anyway..once  i have it tweaked ( i think Harry has a few more ideas  too).. it  will come down to this... 'Catch all survival will be a good thing..BUT... climate  survival will be a bi=onus  for  its  area...

example//Shadow  has ..say? 50 in survial?.. he's pretty good.. he has  5 points in forst...Nothing in the  artic.

so..if it would come  down to a Mod...  the  1/4 of  'catchall' survival  would count in both case...But  in artic..he  would get nothing... in the frest he would get the  extra  Mods  for   his frest  skills.

Needless to say... it won't be  used in this  invasion, until it  gets tweaked . and I have to come up with a fair  way to 'kick it off'..stay tuned!

Hmm, by default, certain jobs are taught survival in all sorts of environments. Are you sure you want to complicate things more? I mean even in D&D survival(environment type) is restricted to ranger types.

Re: OOC #29

my system isn't  that  complicated... but it will  sorta specialize things?.. the  real thing here  will be  what you work on? troopers  and to an extent  , pilots  have  normal survival training, but   the   SEC troopers have  a bit more..and Lights Out folks have  some special  training,  The  Iron Guard  folks are like the 'SEALS' on earth, but out here, they are just really really good ...

i don't see it changing the  game massively, but it will, indeed  add a tweak, that folks can spend ( or not spend) points on.

everyone else?  don't be afraid  to chime in..this is for all of us!

Re: OOC #29

The way I see it adding a speciality just adds a little more flavour to the characters after all if you look into the backgrounds of the various characters you’ve got tales of Shadow humping it across the Russian steppe, Roy spent a lot of time alone in the Arizona? Wilderness and Harry spent time the criminal underworld which would infer they have better than average survival skills in those environments. To use the example I gave Hack, a Bedouin is perfectly adapted to survive in the desert but drop him in the arctic circle and he’s liable to freeze to death.

Yes specialized depending on what their duties are, certainly. SEALs training for survival is vastly different than a AF pilot's is. If i had stayed in the AF i would have been a survival training instructor :P Even Masaud(sp?) and Speknas(sp?) are different.

Yes I agree I like it, difference for different climates. Meari is  Commando she would have trained in multiple climates and surroundings as well like Urban combat I think right?

Re: OOC #29

Both my Sons  were in the Navy ( big Navy Famliy..My dad was in WWII )..the oldest boy  went through  SEALS  but  rang out early the 2nd  week...he had been told ( by an LT  who was on his 3rd trip!)  that he  could  try again... they never  did let him, becaus ehis  '2nd  choice' was IT..and the Kittyhawk wouldn't let him go.

one thing that did come from it?.. he got to  Decom the kittly hawk and is a plank owner.. i have  it hanging in my main Living room.

.....................

now?  a sidebar here. most pilots should know..newer folks?  maybe not.

The PODs have a compartment  on the outside ( the  Pod  sorts   fit into the   aircraft when built.. once thier are  ejected.. the pods  have small thrusters that can 'change direction  in The Black..but that's about it)

anyway.. the compartment  should be... a long arm.. a back pack or satchel with some rations    water  and a first aid  Kit or two... Shadow always brings a  grenade ort two as well...

Pilots can customize this, that is what the  'load out' thread is for.   For Shadow?  he has  his Sanri Blaster and trench knife on him..he has   an Greasegun  and   back pack that has rations, 1st aid akit ( Derma foam and derma plast)  with a couple extra grenades .. that would all be in his load out if i posted it

...........

The Commandos  would train and have harsher   survival  training them most folks..but there would still be something they weren't as good at..( Shadow hates the swaps of Aqra...)

Like Zob was raised on a freezing planet in the demon system but isint as familiar with say jungle as it's not a climate usually found in the demon system.

It's similar to something I came up with for Sarah as she moved from Ship Captain to Fleet Commander. I can't up with an idea for a leadership skill breakout that she can use since piloting skills and hand to hand combat while not useless are much less functional on the command bridge than say someone with skills in fleet level tactics ect

I think the use of the catch-all survival stat covers that.  I mean, one of the primary survival skills is creating some kind of shelter, orienteering would be another...creating emergency signals, etc...

But finding water in the desert is a whole different experience from the jungle.  Staying warm in the arctic is tricky, because how are you going to make a fire?  So specializing makes sense.  I would definitely treat it purely as an additional bonus that only applies in those specific environs.

Yep, I saw that, I was not trying to 'educate' you by any means, but rather jumping off your quoted comment into a rationale for the proposed system.  Sorry if it came across as pedantic.

There's nothing to say you couldn't also include things such as counter-espionage and the criminal underworld for Survival options, where it's not so much building a shelter and finding food as noticing that your being followed and that guys violin case looks very heavy. Like I said it all adds flavour to the characters and what they can do.
