Re: Dr. Christie's Findings
Flora and Fauna on Paradise
Flowering bushes, about waist height. Dark green leaves, orange flowers. Attract beetle-like creatures, it seems. Perhaps to pollenate flowers insect-fashion?
The beetle-like creatures are called friks. They are also known as 'stinging beetles' they eat most harmful insects and they help to spread the plants. They have a nasty sting though. Some Angels die from the sting, if they have a bad reaction to the venom. Friks are striped white and green.
Another beetle is the hilk. They are the 'demons' of the insect world on Paradise. They eat any plant that they land on, however friks feed on them!
Paradise also has spiders, similar in form and appearance to Earth ones. They also attack hilks for food. However their venom will kill most Angels, and it appears that Demons are also vulnerable.
Streams contain fish-like creatures, which can be caught with rod & line (at least, the Angels do this!). The fish resemble trout, except that they have bigger teeth. There are also crayfish-like creatures that have one eye in the centre of their heads. Also there are water bugs, swimming beetles and little 'crawlies' that try to wiggle into the mud when you get close.
An insect, a cross between a hummingbird and a dragon fly with needle-like teeth strong enough to hook onto a light environment suit, would probably give a nasty bite to bare skin!
Fruit, shaped Like cucumbers, but yellow and red - very juic, sweet and refreshing, edible by both Angels and humans.
And the lonox, a small 4-legged creature, very dog-like in both appearance and behaviour. They are wild but occasionally form an attachment to an individual and basically refuse to leave that person thereafter! It is omnivorous preferring insects and vegetation... but seems to prefer meat and fruit over (human) vegetables and kibble.
