She entered the room locking the door behind her. She stretched and tried to ease a crick from her neck. Then she emptied her pockets and stripped her soiled clothes off, placing them in the cleaner receptacle. Then she grabbed her off duty caftan and headed back to the bathing room to clean up. Once she takes her shower and washes her hair, she dries off, brushes her teeth, then heads to bed. Turning off the light, she crawls into bed and falls to sleep.
It wasn't more than an hour later when the nightmares started again. The smoke filled corridors, the alien smells, the sounds of battle, the cries and moans of allies and enemies alike as they took damage. The smells of blood and bodily fluids and burnt skin and feathers. The tumble of a body slamming into her and taking her down to the floor as another flash of energy hits her shoulder. The feel of hot blood on her hands as she tries to stop the bleeding of her companion making her hands sticky, smelling off copper. She struggled to stay alert but the darkness was taking her down, again.
She woke suddenly crying out, reaching for him...
