Re: Apple'a quarter
Appigan’s Quarters
Located in the marine areas is a 4-person room billeted for enlisted ranks. The massive ship Hermes is full of partially used rooms and this is one of them. The occupants have done a few things to make it a home. Given the half occupancy they have chosen to make good use of the unofficial doubling of their space.
Each occupant is a combat medic. As the same trade but perhaps the only of their trade on the ship they are kept in on/off rotation. When one is one duty the other is off. Thus they rarely see each other. Effectively they have the room to themselves.
On opening the door reveals it is longer room likely to fit in with the Hermes structure. On either side of the door are boot racks with a floor and one shelf. Each occupant has afforded an extra pair of combat boots, running shoes and a pair of slippers. A horsehair welcome mat has been placed where you will natural step.
Above the boot racks is the boxes holding the emergency gear. Respirators and one-size-fits-all emergency suits. The first aid kit for this room looks well used.
On the each side walls then comes two wide lockers. Each current occupant having doubled up on their lockers. Shame for them to go to waste. As marines their uniforms, rifles and light armour sets would be kept inside. Heavy space combat armour is kept at the armoury for refit between missions.
When Appigan’s main locker is open it has pictures, printed out from the printer, tapped to the inside. They show family, hunts and forested hills. There is his medical satchel, medical fanny and a sack of apples.
Next is the bunk beds. The top bunk mattress on both is used for storage. The lower bunks see use. When inspection is coming they are tightly made up. On other days they are made well but not perfect. Each bunk’s frame is actually drawers that slide out. The mattress itself is on a board that hinges up for a man sized space used to keep the dress uniform in excellent pressed condition.
In one back corner is a work desk with a ship’s terminal, printer and drawers. A figurine of a white tailed buck with wide antlers sits on top. Magnets in its feet keep it sticking to a metal plate screwed into the shelf.
In the other back corner a card table is pushed into it. In other rooms it would sit out for socializing. These two roommates that never seen each other decided instead to have more space. Four black folding chairs lean against the wall. With them is a short ironing board. Under the table is a bar fridge, chosen for its low height fitting under the table.
Utility shelving on the back wall contain a few items. There is an electric kettle, a hot plate, clothes iron, plastic pitcher, plastic bowls and a box of metal cutlery. There is two electronic picture frames each cycling through pictures of each occupant. Appigan’s shows forests, hunted kills and various people.
This “stateroom” is without a window. There is a faint hum from nearby Hermes machinery.
