She looked at who the officer was looking at.  "Sir I am quite sure that if she were a threat that our LC would not have her in SEC, but by now have gotten more information from her than she would have realized she even knew" she spoke in her southern belle best "After all...one can catch more flies with honey than vinegar" she tried to make the stench of hubris more palatable.  She gave him a smile

 Sam walks down the stairs and sees this huge party, she was not expecting anything like this. She was wearing her dress uniform for being transferred, so she wasn't too out of place.
Sam was told Captain McKeon was a very tall woman and she had seen a picture so hopefully she could find her in this huge party.

 Then she sees the Sargent Major, and decides to head over to him to ask if he knew where Captain Mckeon was. " Sargent Major I am looking for Captain Mckeon I have orders to report to her ASAP." Sam was so tiny and looked so young the Sargent Major might not believe little Sam was a Lt.

Roy's voice was very tightly controlled.  "No, Captain...that woman used to be an EVOL.  She and several others signed on with the ESN when it was discovered that the EVOLs were in league with the EDT.  She's proven her loyalty to the ESN and APF countless times in the years since then.   I would arrest you before I arrest her, sir...I know damn good and well which side she's on."  He didn't say it, but the implication was hard to miss...Roy harbored reservations about just where Captain Maris' loyalties lay.

  Glaring at  Roy, Captain MAris  pointed  down to the  field...She washed out of the academy!... Her parents  paid her way into the  EVOLS!...The instructor who washed her out   was  brought up on charges, but that..that...buffoon.....The  charges    were dismissed.... but the instructor  died in a Hover Car  accident about a week later..there was no  proof..but rumors  had that.....that...whack job as beign responsible!

 Lizzy looks right at her Father and says loudly, " Alright enough is enough, yes if the LC and the Hermes trusts her I trust her with my life. You are so out of touch with how this war will have to be won. Sir it is you I don't want to play with, I have tried but you are stuck in your bureaucratic ways. Why do you have to put people down, embrace them we will need everyone to win this war. I am going to have fun you can do whatever you like SIR." There where tears in her eyes as she turned and ran too Karl, she went into his arms and said," I can't take him anymore, I need a drink, maybe a few dozen." Lizzy will hold Karl close and cry into his shoulder.

Sarah had placed herself near the board and had spent enough time listening to the carping of Captain Maris about every little thing.

Maris, quit your griping. It's not a good look for a senior officer, plus you sound like a toddler who's not getting their way. she snipes at the captain fixing the with sharp stare.

Turning her gaze towards the young woman who'd been told to report to her Sarah quickly identifies her based on the name plate and rank on the collar.  "Lt Robertson, I was just reviewing your file. she  says without preamble.

 Sam sees Captain McKeon, wow they where not kidding when she was told the Captain was a tall and fairly imposing woman. Sam would salute her and say," Yes Captain Lt. Samantha Robertson reporting as ordered Ma'am, umm Ma'am my I ask what I am reporting for and why would you be reviewing my file Captain, I wasn't told much Ma'am."

 Sam looked very nervous around all these people she would rather be in a room alone with her computers. She was told to report to the Captain ASAP so that is what she had to do. In her dress uniform the scars on her wrists where visible and the burnt in numbers 54 could be seen on her forearm being uncovered by her sleeve as she moved her arm.

Zob sighed it looked like Maris was starting issues with people so Zob moved through the crowd and came around towards the backside of Maris so they had him flanked to support Roy in case he needed it.

Melia had arrived a few moments earlier than Lizzy, Orria had immediately slipped off to find Shade and the other children which Melia was fine with.

So far Melia had stayed more to the side of things keeping an eye out for trouble.  She'd taken a few deep breaths reminding herself that the dress looked great on her as it hugged her curves in what many would consider all the right ways. Her only complaints, she was starting to discover came from what she felt was an over emphasis the dress put on her own slightly larger than average bust and the it clung to and hugged her butt. Complaints aside the past that made her happiest was the makeup that Lizzy had done for her that accented and brought the look together.

As she watched the room she fought the internal battle between liking how she looked versus the few complaints that she had and how they drew the eye.

Hawkeye had found a drink and then onto the dance floor having a good time celebrating Lizzy's birthday. She'd not been accosted yet by irksome Captain Maris and wasn't letting his storm cloud attitude interrupt her precious CC's of fun.

Sarah caught the glimpses of the scars as she frowned a little and focuses on Samantha. Samantha's file had been an excellent fit for the position of N2, but someone had either done her a favor or she was playing some sort of joke.

You are aware that your file was submitted to be considered for the position of Fleet N2 on my general staff? she says phrasing the statement as a question.

everyone sqwauking at him, she knew he'd probably walk away.  she thought fool wouldn't learn that way.  She set sights on a different course "Okay, it's getting a bit heated for being a birthday party.  I may a lowest officer on the totem pole rank wise, but lets try to keep this a very nice party.  Captain Maris, Sir, if I am not too forward may I have this dance?" getting him from just standing there like a tree would be a start.  she silently thanked her father for making sure she could dance.

 Sam looked confused and like she had no clue, Sam would reply," No Ma'am my Supervisor must have sent my file Ma'am. Ma'am I would be honored for a position like that Ma'am."

 Sam still very nervous around so many people and she doesn't seem to try and hide her scars she seems to have accepted them as a part of her. She takes a deep breath and adds," I love computers and technology and learning all I can about them. Also Ma'am I just see the code it umm talks to me Ma'am. What is the actual job of this N2 position Ma'am?"

 Sam was getting very uncomfortable around all these people and Sarah would notice easily, she was sweating, she pushed up her sleeves revealing the full burnt in number on her left forearm, as she felt very warm.

Oblivious to the growing tension in other parts of the room Harry was having the time of her life dancing with Will and it was only as they were reaching the end of Abby's techno song that she decided to take a break "I'm going to go and stand to the side and rest my leg for a little bit baby, would you be so kind as to grab me a drink please?" she asked before giving him a quick peck on the cheek and heading off to find a wall to lean against.

It would take Harry a few moments to realise that the redhead she'd found herself next to was Melia, with the combination of a red dress, nice makeup and very familiar figure causing her to look more than a little like the birthday girl "Hey Melia you're looking lovely tonight, I'd have thought someone would have pulled you onto the dance floor by now" she said with a cheeky smile. As the shouting started Harry would find her attention drawn away from Melia and over to where Lizzy and her father were currently arguing with the birthday girl storming off to be with Karl "I don't understand how such an asshole like that could have such a lovely daughter as Lizzy? I mean she's only been here a couple of days and she already everyone's best friend!" she exclaimed, only just managing to resist the urge to march over and knock the good captains block off.

Karl wrapped Lizzy in his arms and steered her away, sparing Captain Maris an accusatory look that had an 'I warned you this would happen' over one to it.

"How about we start with just one drink..." he suggested, quietly.  "Wouldn't do for the birthday girl to miss most of her own party..."

Keeping an arm firmly around her shoulders, he steered her away, heading for anywhere they could get drinks.

Roy's eyes narrowed.  "Well, Captain, we don't arrest people based on rumors.  And we don't throw away good people because they've got a questionable mark on their record.  We don't have that luxury, sir."  He managed to twist the last word into almost a slur.

"I can understand your standpoint...easy to pick and choose when you're dealing with Academy beats.  But we're the tip of the spear, Captain, and we need every person we can find that will keep our edge sharp.  We don't have the luxury of throwing away good pilots with bad pasts...we might, if we were getting better quality replacements, but we keep getting people who are really good at flying in formation and aren't worth shit when it comes to a real fight.  Sir."

  Will went off to get drinks.

   The Band  took ove r again  with   a slow  song to let every one  get thier breath.  Captain Si  Danced  with   The Admiral her   head on his shoudlers.. Hennings  and Emmie  danced  as well... Miller and Bale dance, but they both seemed to be a  bit awkward at the  'slow  dance' thing.

 Shadow managed to escape to the food  tables  and get a hot dog.  Shade  was  sitting by  a small table  By himself,  as  a couple of the   Stem kids   had  either escaped  or thier parents let them come up. They were playign   games with Orria.

 Shadow set a chocolate  shake  down by him  with a hotdog.  The Little Verian Bleeped .

 ..yeah, lots  of  folks for sure.... but wait until tomorrow , when we have to go to the BAll?.. I don't know if it will be  as much fun..

  He turned his attention to Roy,..they learn  'The MAris WAy"... San Diego  and   Great LAkes  were  noted for having wild   students.. I won't have that  in My Classes.. No sir... when  pilto   get thgier ticket  on Fuji.. they know respect   and  order!

After the last couple of dances Kira decided now was a good time to take a break, "Lets get some drinks" she then lead him back to the tables and poured them both a drink she then raised hers in a toast before taking a drink.

 Lizzy holds him close and fights back the tears," Okay Karl sounds good, yeah don't want to get loopy too soon. " Lizzy just couldn't understand her Father, yeah he was always kind of a dick but he was acting even worse than normal. She wanted to have fun and have a great night and he is just pissing Lizzy off so much. If he really wanted her to follow her he would act a lot better thats for sure.

 Lizzy will wait for Karl to get his drink and then say as she hits her shot of Jack with his drink and says," To good friends and my new family, and too you Karl." She downs the shot and took a sip of her beer and says," Okay I am better now, what would you like to do next Karl.

Roy snorted softly.  "Respect and order are fine and well...but they don't keep you alive on the battlefield.  'Respect' out here comes down to seeing who's competent, and treating them as such.  You know why the Admiral didn't show up in full dress and all his ornaments?  It's because he didn't need to.  There's not a person in this fleet, right down to the janitors on the foundry ships, who doesn't know who he is...and he doesn't need to remind us of his war record because we've all seen what kind of a warrior he is.  There's not an officer in this fleet whose leadership position wasn't earned on personal merit.  Nobody gets to coast on what they did in a battle twenty years ago...if you don't make the grade, they give your job to someone who will do the job better.  That's why Shadow is the WC...he's a damn fine pilot, and he cares about every last one of his pilots.  He doesn't have to rely on military protocol to uphold respect and order in the ranks, because he's earned the respect to maintain the order.  You doubt that, look at the combat records...not just his, but the whole Hermes' flight group.  The proof is in the pudding, they say...but you probably don't eat pudding, because you don't want to drip on your ribbons."

He waited long enough for it to be apparent that he intended offense when he drawled out, "Sir..."

Karl raised a beer to Lizzy's toast, and took a drink.  "What next?" he echoed, then added, "It's YOUR birthday, you get to call the shots around here.  But I wouldn't recommend talking to your father again right away."  He gave a grim smile and took another drink of his beer.

Zob smirked a bit as he saw Roy had it well in hand and moved off, It was then a lovely figure caught his eye he saw Melia in her dress standing off to the side, he took a deep breath and made his way over to her, "Hello Melia, you look great" he said complimenting her choice of dress.

 Lizzy smiled at Karl and said,Yes you are right it is my party. Lizzy would lok over at her Father and add,Karl if he keeps it up I am going to bitch slap him. Yeah much later.

 Lizzy will then drink some of her beer and when the band plays a slow song Lizzy will smile at Karl and say,Karl would you like to slow dance with the birthday girl. She smiles and she hopes he agrees and Lizzy will hold him close and dance with him.

 As they dance she says,Thank you, you  are so amazing

  Frans  and Eckles came over to the   food tables too...SHADOW!.. you'er  suppose to be  dancing and  stuff!  Frans  said  as she  got  a  blue and yellow  Mixed  drink..of...whatever it was.

 Shade's  eyes went green  and he  hoped  down..even Eckles  had  about  6  or 8 inches  on him...  A fast  song was  playing  , he tried  the    dance  he and Shadow  did   at the Dockmaster's on Anzio..  then  tried  some Steps Beth  had showed Him.

 Beth    was   prancing around with some SEC troopers.. Flores    Drabbed a  drink from a waitress  and  came up the stairs  towards  Roy and the other.

 ..Hey, SM?  what say  , as soon as I finish this  drink  we have a dance...Shadow's  refueling  and most of the  other guys  are to afraid to take the field...

 Maris looked at Flores   and  sneered, Flores looked at him with a tilt of her head...

 Then Maris  saw  Shade  go on the Dance floor  with Eckles.....Is  That  'thing'  Shadow's  Get?   What Happen? he  had a bad night and  took a toaster  home? he laughed , pleased  with his  joke.
