  The elevator doors  Opened, Shadow  and Hannah stepped off, Shadow on arm tucked with her's  in the other hand was the Pizza box. as they headed towards their  quarters. They saw the Door at the Far end Open and Jonny Blu walked out with Nickerson, they carrier their  luggage as well as  Wess's.

  Oh..Hey there. There is Shadow  and  His little friend...you know her, Don't you  Jonny boy,Hmmmm. Yes...of course you do!

 Jonny Nodded to   Hannah, he looked  at Shadow but said nothing.

 You boys  packed your bags  already? Thought you had  Until Morning.

 Blu frowned, never taking his eyes  of Hannah,Commander  Si...suggested we leave sooner, since  we ...'don't have any friends' ...aboard

 ..She's right Jonny...you bail on the ground folks, they aren't going to like you very much....

..why don't you  go to your Quarters  , Shadow? Let me talk to Hannah a minute?

 Shadow's  eyes narrowed, but he nodded... Gave Hannah a pat on the  arm  and headed to his quarters.

 Well...I'll see to Wess, Wot? Get the shuttle  driver to fire up our ride....

 Blu  nodded  and Gave   Nickerson a salute,..You know..Hannah..You could come with us...we could use you  in the EVOL fleet....

Clearly whatever had been going on down on the rec dec was a bigger deal than she'd realized. The air fairly crackled with tension and she breathed a small sigh of relief when Kray walked away. She smiled to him as he left and then turned to Jonny. It took a moment for her to fully process what he'd said.

"You want me to.. Jonny, I can't do that. They need me here, too. I belong here."

Hannah sighed and leaned against the wall. "I'm sorry, Jonny."

 Jonny looked sad for a moment...there was a moment of Anger that he managed to suppress.... You'd  be safer with Us, Hannah...I...I don't  want anything  bad to happen to you...

 with out thought he  took a Glaring glance at the open door of Her and Shadow's  quarters...Its him..isn't it? You don't have to be afraid of him....with out the ESN behind him, he's nothing...we could leave the service  ...right now...and live, nice and quiet....

She rubbed the back of her neck and shook her head. "I might be safer, but I won't be doing my job. I signed up to help."

She sighed again. "I'm not afraid of Kray, Jonny. I came back for him and I don't plan to leave again if I can help it. I'm sorry, but you knew this from the start. I.. you should go now. I don't want you to get in trouble."

  Jonny looked at her  as if she had 2 heads,..Alright then....when the Time comes, You just COM  me, Sooner or later..You will realize, your Mistake....

 He looked as if he was going to try and kiss her good By, but he looked  down the hall at the open door, and Just left, heading to the elevator  and the EVOLs.

Hannah was saddened by the angry parting. She had considered Jonny a friend. Apparently he'd never believed that that was all he would be to her. Maybe if she hadn't met Kray things would have been different, but... Shaking her head she walked through the open door, too tired to think about it anymore.

Before heading to his cabin Justin made his to the Quartermaster and picked up a full set of ESN uniforms and equipment. Once in his cabin these were stored according to ESN procedures, pressed, hung or folded appropriately then took a shower dressed in fatigues he tapped out some messages to his friends forwarding them to IT operation for review prior to being released. Turning in his chair he stared about the room taking in its familiarity and considered the turn of events that brought him back to the same point he was several months ago. This time things would be much different; he'd learnt a lot about the way things worked and when not to open his mouth regardless of what he thought By keeping to himself as much as possible things would work out much easier, he hoped.

Now that he was no longer a walking target Justin headed to the Rec Deck for something to eat

Finally making it back to his room Justin quickly changed and flopped onto his bed. A myriad thoughts racing through his head preventing him from resting, or focusing on any one thing in particular, as thoughts of how and why plagued him, minute after minute, hour after hour. Eventually the buzz of the alarm he'd set the day before sounded. Bleary from the night without rest he glared at the alarm showing time for him to shower and change and be about his duties.

After an hot shower to refresh him Justin headed to the Rec Dec for some breakfast.

  The Verian carried the  Stick as if it were  made of  fine China. She entered her  quarters  leaving the  door Open for Henry.

  The quarters were the same as any of the Ranks , higher then an LT, The thing  that as different, was the extra bit of machinery about.

   walking to some  Metal suitcases, she placed the stick on the Bed. and  opened up one, she   brought out a protected box  and  it  slid open at her touch, inside were 6 silverfish Orbs.5 hard  red light s on..one had a green light.

  she pulled out  one of the  Red lighted  orbs  and took it over to the Bed,

...This , Doctor Henry, is an artificial Orb.....it would be something we  use, that would be like, your people using  artificial ways to have  offspring....We always carry some , incase there is a chance of crossbreeding..but....it almost never happens....

 She places  the  stick into the slot  of the orb and  hits a slid button...slowly the   Red Light flashes...it keeps  flashing  for about 3 Minutes...then the   light turned green..but was still flashing, Evert seemed upset...but watched the lights...another 3 minutes..and the Light  was  on..a steady green...

 ...The Orb has taken in both DNA samples....now?..we  have to wait....  she  places the orb  carefully back in the padded contain with the other Orbs. And Seals the Box. Placing it back into the  metal suitcase.

 She smiles at henry,...you have questions?

Henry watched the process, standing quietly out of the way by the door.

"Firstly, thank you for allowing me to come along. Now, as I understand it (or don't!), one of your kind who is bonded with a machine can collect DNA from a being using that machine - now, is that encoded, or do you have actual physical DNA in that stick?

  ....first?..you may help yourself to  some Human style drinks in the  machine there? Now? what has happened here..has not happened before....so many..many years  ago...1000s? My people were  down on your planet as well...while the Demons and Angels were stirring up the different races, we tried to get some  samples  to see  if there was any way we could lInk with them.

 She   crossed to another  machine  and   Opened a can that had odd designs on a purplish  liquid  was in side, she took a few sips and sat down,..Our  main ship, The Leviathan ...cruised the waters of your ocean, where we thought we would be less noticed>...the ship captured a fellow who had  fallen from  his  ship...the fellow, by today's  standards...was Mindless!..he though  our  ship as  a seabeast...they let  he go 3 days later  after running some tests..it was deemed the people of that ear  were not  mentally sound enough  for us to risk a DNA splice with...The Angels  and Demons , they had  no such worries  and played to the  Human's rantigns of  Gods and Demons  ect ect...  she waves  a hand to dismiss it.

   Besides  Achilles  and Beowulf..we also tried  with a fellow named  Arthur? He was by far the best case, But  it seems the Demons had  spies in his court , a female Human who served as that era's EDT....and she  helped bring the down fall of his Kingdom...we saved him by  taking him away from earth..he  passed on one of  our smaller  Earth-type worlds.

 ..I tell you thin, because of what  i am going  to explain, Before?  we had  tried to  put our DNA into  humans....most times it failed....sometimes the end was not  good for the Human, and we would back off  for  a decade or two...What  LAdy did here, as take  Bits of  DNA  from Shadow, through   the electronic Pulses that all living  being have.....filtered?..one might say...Now? we shall see if the product of this  splice  can grow into a Verian?..or  some Hybrd...or...if  it  will merely fail...

Henry nodded.

"So this is quite experimental, then? Did you know that your encounters have passed into legend amongst earth people? Even the fellow who fell off of his ship. His name was Jonah, and his version - of being swallowed by a seabeast and spat out again after three days - is recorded in a religious text called the Bible. Likewise we have stories about Achilles, Beowulf and Arthur... although many think them just stories, not historical fact."

Henry went to investigate the 'human-style' drinks. Once settled with a drink he went on.

"What do you eat and drink? I notice you have different things from us, like that purple drink. And you were eating a different pizza from everyone else. Are your dietary needs different, or is it a matter of taste, of preference?"

  ...There a re  food we can eat...we can eat almost anything, but   it  does not aid the rebuilding of  our bodies, it merely gets  passed through our system. our  organs will take out the water, if needed, and some of the other things a particular food might have, all else is turned to waste.

 with a Motion to the  drink,..because we have  carbon-silcone base..we tend to try to  eat vegetation and  food creatures that are  also  from that build?..so we have colonies  on many of the  planets in out system , they have  farms  and ..i think you call them..ranches... we will never  starve..since the Carbon part of  our Bodies are able to gain sustenance, from the same food you eat.

 ...those of our people that choose to download into a machine, do not need such things..at least until they  fully become that machine..then they may need Liquids for our race to aid them in thier functions.

"I see... How does this 'downloading' work? What happens to the physical body of that individual?"

Henry's mind teemed with questions.

  ...i do not understand? Physical body? Those  of us who choose to be...Verians..will grown from the Orb...unfolding and slowly  grow, much like any offspring in the   Universe...those who are downloaded into a machine, the orb is  an empty shell...there is...no going back to the Orb. If  caught soon enough, we can switch to another  MAchine, but they can never   download, into a Verian...

"So, the choice is made early, when you are in the orb, which way you will go... physical body or machine? Is that right?"

How did anyone make such a momentous choice that early in their development, Henry wondered.

  Evert takes  a drink of her liquid.....it is a choice ...much like your people make. except those who choose  machine..can not undo that. We are  hoping   that we may make it, that they will be able to...

 Pointing to the  egg-box  she says,we have never had human DNA  in our bodies before..this will be ..interesting..to say the least.

"Indeed it will be interesting. How long before you will know if it... has worked?"

Henry was intrigued by the workings of such a different species, yet one so open to speak of how they functioned.

   With a another look to the Box, almost, perhaps, fear? It was  hard to tell on the  smooth  white skin of the Verian,..That? Good Doctor...we shall both learn. Never has this been done in all my years...There was a crude attempt in your ancient days, of doing so. But  my people made the  Verian body  too large...and the  Human samples entered into in, made it a Mindless atomoton...Talos? I think they called it...it was destroyed  by  one of the older  Heroes of your  world.

  Depending on what all was taken from Shadow...the new Being could be anything.....because of the currant  form, and the way it was entered..it  could be  days...it  could be  months...

"How do you care for an orb until it... what is the most appropriate word? Hatch? Open?" asked Henry, floundering a bit.

 There is  an amused smile on her lips,...The  orb  that is created inside  the body of a Female Verian has information and energy within to keep the   being inside  alive. Once the Orb is birthed, the being inside, will need  more power to grow...There is a thin metal shielding..a crust...if you will..when that breaks off, the Orb is begining to expand. If then it must be placed in a  growth chamber where  it  will be fed  energy,information and  food..until the time it has grown to full size...That would be about as big as one of your Vid screens, in your  quarters? when it reaches that point, the Orb will start to seperate...it is then the being inside  was choose... If it chooses humanoid, the  Ord will be left as  it is, and it will brow into a Humaniod form. If it wishes to be downloaded, then  a stick, much like  Lady created, will be needed so the being inside may be transfered.
