Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

JACK runs up and kicks Roland squarely in the face. He can see that he and the other palace guard are holding heavy crossbows. Now that he is closer, he can also see some Cornelian soldiers hiding behind that statues and one behind the orb. [Private to JACK: You notice your kick's force being slightly lessened by the armor he's wearing.]

JACK barks out that there are more soldiers here at the end of his turn.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

DAI's magical stones barely miss the guard.
[Private to DAI: Sorry man, that crit would have been awesome. =/]

VIL is still standing there wondering what all of the fuss is about.

Roland fires his crossbow at JACK, placing the bolt only inches away from his heart, but provokes an attack of opportunity.

19:16, Today: teslas rolled 25 using 1d20+6. Confirm >.>.
19:16, Today: teslas rolled 26 using 1d20+6. Hvy crossbow vs. JACK.

[Private to JACK: Filling up your SIO, of course.]

The other palace guard aims his bolt at JACK, the only person he has a clear shot at.
19:20, Today: teslas rolled 14 using 2d10+2.
19:20, Today: teslas rolled 23 using 1d20+6. are you fucking kidding me.
19:20, Today: teslas rolled 26 using 1d20+6. Other palace guard at JACK.

The crossbow bolt hits him in the back as he's doubling over, knocking the first one out.
[Private to JACK: Holy shit >.>]

The two soldiers behind the statues run out towards the rest of the group. They are double-handing a longsword each, and wearing a breastplate. JACK does not see the third one move.

The door behind everyone closes. Garland's horned helm is wiggling and moving. You can hear Sara letting out muffled screams.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Um, there are no explicit rules for this, but for starters I'm going to say -4 for improvised weapon. You are within 10' so no range increment penalties. So it looks as if the modifiers are +2 from DEX, +1 from BAB, and -4 from improvised weapon. Since this is a personal ruling of this DM and you couldn't have known the correct modifiers before hand, a plain 1d20 roll is fine on the part of the player and that's what you rolled. There will also be a 50% chance it will fail, as there is when trying to make a pound of oil into a makeshift explosive weapon. Finally, he will be on fire for d6 rounds unless the flames can be put out.

JACK throws the oil from his burning lamp at Roland, who cannot get out of the way. The oil continues to burn, catching him on fire. JACK's now mostly-empty lamp falls to the ground in between himself and Roland.

Round 1:
14: Garland
14: JACK
14: ZEIG
12: DAI
12: VIL
7: Palace Guards - Roland is on fire for 4 more rounds.
 2: Soldiers

Upon seeing Jack perforated with crossbow bolts Zeig reaches deep into his subconscious and empowers his Cure spell with divine energy while weaving it towards Jack.

00:52, Today: ZEIG rolled 9 using 1d8+4. Cure -> Jack + Divine Seal. = 13

Afterwards, he sets his lamp down and takes a 5' step up.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Roland's body is engulfed in flames, and his skin is burning.
00:23, Today: teslas rolled 6 using 1d6. Roland's fire damge.

He attempts to put himself out with his hands, but fails, and then drops to the ground, rolling to smother the flames, succesfully putting them out.
00:25, Today: teslas rolled 14 using 1d20+3. Roland's Reflex save to put himself out.
00:26, Today: teslas rolled 25 using 1d20+7. Rolling to smother flames.

The other guard masterfully reloads his heavy crossbow, takes a 5' step to the west, and fires at JACK, placing another bolt in his shoulder blade.
00:28, Today: teslas rolled 4 using 1d10+1.
00:27, Today: teslas rolled 23 using 1d20+6.

[Private to JACK: Putting it all in SIO.]

Soldier #1 takes a 5' step to the northeast and swings at DAI with his longsword, viciously cutting him for six damage after his robes absorb part of the blow.
00:29, Today: teslas rolled 7 using 1d8+3.
00:29, Today: teslas rolled 18 using 1d20+3.

Soldier #2 charges at VIL, landing a solid blow across his shoulder, his armor reducing the cut slightly.
00:31, Today: teslas rolled 9 using 1d8+3.
00:31, Today: teslas rolled 22 using 1d20+5.

Garland's horned helm wiggles a little more, and the entire group hears Sara yell out what seems to be nonsensical words. Knowledge (Local) and/or Spellcraft checks.

A split second later bats come raining down from the ceiling and swarm all over the three soldiers and the other palace guard (but not Roland).

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

This soldier, too, seems distracted by the bats circling around his head. VIL's attack connects, dealing minor damage, but the flames burn the soldier fairly severely.

Roland stands up, provoking an attack of opportunity from JACK. He then takes a 5' step backwards, drops his crossbow, and takes out his guisarme.

The other palace guard flails at the bats around his head, but does not drop his crossbow. He wanders 5' to the south and manages to concentrate enough to reload his crossbow.

Soldier #2 strikes out wildly at the bats around him with his longsword and hand. He wanders north 5', provoking an attack of opportunity from VIL.

Soldier #3 also flails wildy at the bats around him and wanders backwards 5'. He manages to concentrate enough to pull out his longsword.

Garland lets out a dull, angered roar and a scream of agony can be heard from Sara. Garland then makes his way around the orb towards the party as he draws out his greatsword. Sara can not be seen. He is wearing full plate, a long purple cloak and a horned helmet.
