Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

"Where did Dai..." He looks up at Vil, "The castle?" He frowns, before taking an empty pouch and placing them inside. He looks back at Vil. "We never did talk about what happened after we seperated. We should fill each other on what we missed when we make camp."

[OOC]EDIT: What's the weather like? Might affect our spending.

EDIT 2: There's a skill for that!

Zeig breaks out a big toothy grin at Vil and nearly tackles him with a hug.  [OOC] With his imposing 9 str. [/OOC]

"You didn't have to you know...I mean..."

He then turns to Dai, "Are you sure?  I know it was from the castle but you earned it."

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Yesterday's rains are gone, but the sky still isn't clear of clouds. They are fluffy and grey and stretch as far as you can see, yet the sun is managing to light everything.

The weather is comfortable, around 65 degrees(F), and will get warmer as the day goes on. Cornelian lands don't really have seasons, though it would currently be closest to early spring. The temperature only varies about 20 degrees over the course of the year, and nights are around 20 degrees cooler than the days.

[OOC] If I don't have to roleplay this he's going to pick up a scroll of light and libra harm.

JACK:
Today should remain overcast. Tomorrow there's a very good chance it may rain again, though nowhere near as badly as yesterday.

ZEIG:
Deduct the money from your total and put them in your inventory. The shopkeeper is surprised to see you again so soon, and seems rather confused by your escort, but does not ask any questions.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

The alchemy and potion shop is near the black and white magic scroll scribes.

They sell potions of most spells up to caster level 3. (level 1 and 2 spells). Potions of Blink, Elemental Armor, Elemental Spikes, and Enspell cannot be bought.

price = 50gp * Spell Level * Caster Level

You can only know two spells at this level, ZEIG. If you read them and want to learn them you have to forget Cure or Basuna.

Once you level up you get two more spell slots.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

All of you make it to the south gate of the city. It is around 9:00am. Your respective escorts ask you to hold as you stand before a massive set of wooden doors. Embedded in one of them is a door about 6' across and 7' tall. It is barred. The gate was guarded by soldiers in chain shirts. They had longbows and shortswords and bucklers as side-arms. These were members of Cornelia's army. You guys know that their equipment is not usually magical.

"Weston should be here shortly. He wanted to see you off," one of the guards in your escort states, nodding at the city gate guards.

A few minutes pass by, and Weston rides up on a chocobo and dismounts gracefully, handing the reigns off to one of the escort guards and walking towards you. "All set I take it? Your escorts were to provide money for supplies, but it seems as if you had already helped yourself to the kingdom's coffers. That is another matter, however."

He asks what supplies you've purchased and seems somewhat satisfied at your responses. "We have not yet found the princess. She is not inside of the palace. She is almost assuredly not inside of the city walls. She and her kidnappers probably exited the smaller northern gate behind the castle, as the guards there were all hit with Sleep bolts. There are tracks from more than three people outside of the gate, leading north into the forest. They were on foot, at least initially. They were smart enough to walk in a single-file line and it appears they were dragging something large and heavy, further obscuring their trail. Once they hit the forest, it disappears. Finally, it appears they had several imps join them at the forest's edge. "

He sighs for a moment. "Garland is missing as well. I have never liked the man, but this came as a surprise to us. He either selflessly ran off after the princess's kidnappers or is operating with them. We found one more body, that of Raul, slightly outside the castle walls last night. His sword was through the chest of another guard. He succumbed to his wounds and it is assumed he died in loyal service to the crown. This confirms that at least some of the castle guard were involved. That leaves three unaccounted-for, including Roland. We've not been able to perform a detailed review of the army, but it is possible that some of them could be involved as well. We are apprehensive of sending a regiment looking for them. Garland's influence  over our troops is unknown. We do, however, have a few teams of palace guards scouting the area. You may encounter them, you may not."

"I understand none of you have done much traveling. Camp at night. Keep someone on watch at all times. Travel only 12 hours a day, maximum. Goblin activity has been high, and there are wolves and other creatures roaming the forest."

Weston motions to the soldiers at the city gate. Four of them lift the massive wooden pole from the metal hooks on the smaller door and a fifth opens the door.

"Good luck, children. The king has placed much hope upon you."

Weston stands and waits and nods at the open portal to the wilderness. The four men holding the incredibly heavy wooden bar might also appreciate that you move along as well.

Last chance to change something with your character or purchase something you've forgotten.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

The group of you knows little about imps. They are small, dirty, and fairly intelligent creatures. They have no qualms about stealing or killing, yet they do not go out of their way to do so.

DAI found a book on their language in the library and spent a couple of days learning it. It was remarkably easy, but he's usually been embarrassed to say anything in it, as it is a horrible sounding assemblage of noises.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

The party finishes loading up JACK with all of their equipment and proceeds through the door. Weston says nothing as the door is closed. The huge piece of wood slamming back down behind it cements the fact that you're out here on your own into your minds. Going on only a vague idea that the Temple of Fiends is somewhat important, and that it lies generally northwards, you head off.

The road outside of the gate goes in two main directions, east and west. Each road circles around the outside of the city walls. Cornelia is surrounded by a large forest. The trees begin only 60' away from the sides of the walls.

The bridge directly north of town is in ruins. It was rumored that an attack by sahuagin coming in from the sea caused it. It normally would have crossed narrow inlet leading into a small inland sea.

You know that Cornelia sits on a peninsula, and that to head north you would need to take the west road to head further inland before that would be possible. The party does just that, and makes its way up the west side of Cornelia's wall. You come upon an intersection with a sign and follow it to the northwest.

EAST -> NORTH BRIDGE
WEST <- NORTHWESTERN PLAINS

JACK believes the party should easily be able to make it through the forest and camp on the plains before nightfall.

I need to know the party's formation as they walk down the road through the forest. We can handle it in the out of character thread.
