Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

VIL is eying a pile of black soot about an inch thick in a 2x2' area.

The puddle of blood the other palace guard is lying in is creeping across the stone floor and flowing into small grooves and crevasses in the surface.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Sara looks at the dying guard. "We should probably save him, too, yes. I doubt he lives long after his trial, however."

As the realization of the moment sinks in, of where you are, and that you just rescued Sara from an almost assuredly fatal fate, the experience invigorates you to return home. Sara, too, looks relieved in the same way.

Everyone gains 810 EXP from completing the encounter.

[Private to ZEIG: You gain an additional 63 EXP from response times.]
[Private to DAI: You gain an additional 58 EXP from response times.]
[Private to VIL: You gain an additional 58 EXP from response times.]

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

DAI, forgetting about his nameless assailant for a moment, moves over and applies the same treatment he had given Roland...it seemed a waste to use these but, first-aid was not his strong point, and as far as he could see they were done. He would then proceed to turn toward Sara.

"What...what was all of that? Why did they take you? What happened to Garland?..."

After realizing she herself might not know all of this, he moves to gather anything he can, avoiding eye contact, but still replying when spoken to.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

The other palace guard stops bleeding but remains unconscious.

Sara thinks for a moment. "The brief of the situation is that I don't know. For now, we should probably get out of this place and get started on our trip home. Our journey here was hurried, and we lost two men before getting to this central room. I hope we can make it back safely."

Hopping in the shower and then headed to my office. I'll post what DAI and the rest of you find when I get there, hopefully.

Zeig's eyes come back into focus as he returns to his senses.

"Sara...you're all right, that's all that matters."

Zeig pauses for several moments before proceeding.

"How...are we going to move these two?  We can't very well carry them." He points to Roland and the other palace guard.

A makeshift sled should do it. Jack replies.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

You find, quickly searching around with your one light source:

Two standard issue Cornelian palace guard Heavy Crossbows.
Two standard issue Cornelian palace guard Heavy Shields.
Two standard issue Cornelian palace guard Longswords and Guisarmes.
The two unconscious guards are wearing their royal banded mail.

The dead soldiers have Longswords and Breastplates on them. Including the tied up soldier's weapon there are three standard Longswords and Breastplates.

Sara points out an open box in the corner that contains two Tent items, three potions of Cure, two potions of Pure, two vials of Holy Water, and 22 days worth of field rations. There is also a heavy leather pouch (1lb) that contains 314 gold coins. Next to the box are stacked two hooded lanterns, sixteen pounds of oil (in 10lb small barrels, one of which is full, the other has 4 lbs missing), and nine torches.

Sara explains they used to have two pack chocobos but they were lost to the swamp just before they arrived at the temple.

Garland's remains, if you could call them that, contain nothing.

A potion of Pure cures all poisons.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

I'll take one Cure potion and 1 Pure potion. I'll also replace my lantern with one of the ones here and take 4 lb. of oil and 4 rations. I'll carry more for anyone that wants me too, but you have to tell me what you want me to carry.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

There is a barrel of 10lbs of oil, and a barrel of 6lbs (that holds 10lbs). You have an empty container for 1lb of oil on you. You are going to have to do some maths, and you cannot take only 4lbs unless you pour one into your old empty container, drop it, and poor the other into the lamp you're not picking up.

The barrels themselves weight 2lb. So a full barrel weighs 12lb. A barrel with 4lbs or oil in it weighs 6lbs.

The doors to the room seem rather normal. If you unbarred the southern one or simply reopened the northern one exiting the room would be trivial.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Not that I'd enforce much of volume encumberance, but: about 1'10" long, and 1' in diameter. Strapping one to the underside of your backpack could be easily done.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

DAI would grimace a little at the weight of the crossbows, but pick one up, gathering as many bolts as he can find as well. He will claim one potion of cure, to replace one of the two he used to stabilize their prisoners.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Zeig follows Dai's lead and struggles a bit but picks up the other heavy crossbow along with 40 bolts in 2 quivers.  Afterwards, he replenishes his container of oil from the barrel Jack left and picks up 2 days worth of rations.

OOC: If no one else wants to carry the other items I'll pick them up, they're weightless so it'd be pointless to leave them behind (tent/holy water/other potions).  We should probably divy them up though.  Also, breastplates are pretty decent money, even if they're 30 lbs. each.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Sara walks over to the pile of her kidnapper's resources, picks up the other lantern, and fills it with the oil barrel on the ground. She then fills up the oilskin left by JACK and uses one of the pieces of her now-tattered dress as a makeshift belt to tie the oilskin to her waist. 7lbs of oil remain in the small barrel, which was left on the floor.

She also takes a week worth of rations (8 days) and lets out a small request, "Could someone carry the rest of this?"

She stands and walks back to the party. "Let's find our way out of here. I'm sure father is worried, but maybe if it's not too dangerous we can check out the rest of this place before we leave tomorrow?"

Sara then calmly walks over to the soldier that is tied up, presenting the lantern. "Stand up and hold this in your teeth and follow me, please." She holds up a finger with a tiny fire burning on the end of it, and lights the lantern. Spellcraft Check: The two pure mages automatically recognize the oldest trick in the book, Prestidigitation, and VIL has a very clear idea of what she is doing.

She then points to Roland and the other knocked out palace guard. "Let's get the armor off of these two so they're easier to move. The idea of a sled should work quite well, especially in the swamp. We can have our mobile light source help JACK pull them, unless we have another source of brute force available to us?" She is looking at DAI as she finishes her statement.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

DAI is suddenly glad for his hidden face, as he feels it go read when Sara's gaze falls upon him...since when could she do magic?

"That...sounds good, I can help...too since, if we are ambushed...I can usually fight...without moving."

DAI takes 3 days rations, giving him a full week's worth, just in case, and moves to follow Sara in her possible explorations of the Temple.

"I think...waiting a day would be fine, never know what we may find, we only really explored one half...there were...two rooms that couldn't be opened..."

DAI was also hoping he'd have enough time to identify the two possibly magical items he was holding onto.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Zeig perks up noticeably at the mention of exploring the ruins.  He picks up speed as he continues to ramble on and on about the lore and possibilities the temple might contain until he is completely unintelligible.

"Are you sure you're ok?  I don't want to put you in any more danger...but there is the most FASCINATING mural along the inner walls of the temple.  The other side looks to contain a similar depiction but there could be more andthinkofallthethingswecouldlearnand thoselightsonthestatuesandthecrystalswhatcouldal..."

OOC: This forum has so many dumb rules.  It didn't like that I didn't have a space in there, and wouldn't let me post without putting one in. >.>
