DAI nods, figuring it all made sense, turning to the rest of the team, he inquired.

"Well then...what now? Wait till tomorrow? Start fresh and early...or, leave now?"

Jack takes the leftover items for the party (except weapons armor and shields, that would be too much.)

I'll follow your lead. Jack looks considerably more relaxed than he's been in a while.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

The party removes the armor from the two palace guards. Sara cuts 40' of rope off of the tied up soldier 10' is quite enough. and uses it to bind the two unconscious guards to one another.

JACK smashes the supplies box and two of the sides are used to place the guards on top of.

The group unbars the southern door and swings it open, revealing the front door left ajar more than an hour ago by the party's entrance into the temple.

"Let's exit and sleep just outside tonight. I think we should be more worried about the inside of this place at night rather than during the day", Sara says.

JACK drags one guard and then the other outside while the rest of the group keeps watch down the hallways and outside the front door. Howling can still be heard in the distance outside of the temple's massive doors.

DAI nods in agreement, before setting down outside and begins the hur-long ritual to find exactly what properties the ring he found contains. Before doing so he'd turn to ask Sara:

"The Amulet...that was in the chest, was there anything special about it?"

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Sara explains: "Yes. Those are especially rare charms from one of the northern continents. That's the only actual one I've ever seen, and it was given to me by my father. Whoever wears it is shielded from a mortal blow. I figured one of you could make better use of it. Apparently, there is a word you say when wearing it to bind it to you. I don't know what it is, but I thought you guys would manage to find out rather quickly."

Might as well do 2 at once in 1 hour.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

VIL hits the hay first. DAI and ZEIG concentrate on identifying the items. Sara falls asleep as they do so. JACK keeps an eye over the party until the two mages are finished and then quickly passes out. The bound soldier falls asleep soon after DAI and ZEIG have completed their spells as well. The two bound palace guards go through the first watch without waking up.

The Necklace:
Medallion of Protection, 2,500gp

When worn and activated, it will absorb all of the damage from the first mortal blow the wearer receives. The amulet then breaks and is ruined.

Activate by gripping the medallion when worn and saying "this body".

The Ring:
Luck Ring, 2,000gp

When worn, it confers a small Luck bonus to one of the wearer's saving throws. Roll 1d4 to determine which save gains the bonus. 1 = Fort, 2 = Reflex, 3 = Will, 4 = roll twice and combine, reroll 4's.
If the ring is ever removed from the wearer's finger they immediately lose its benefit and that particular ring will never work for that particular person again.

DAI and ZEIG are awake for another hour, then DAI heads to bed. ZEIG will proceed to wake up JACK and then sleep. JACK wakes up Sara and VIL for the last watch.

Throughout the night, the howling never dies down, but it never gets closer. As the Windsday sun creeps through the treetops and stretches across the faces of the two palace guards, Roland begins to stir in his bindings. It seems as if he's coming to. VIL and Sara wake up the rest of the sleeping party.

Everyone eat one of your days' rations. Sara feeds one of her portions to the bound Soldier. Roland and the other palace guard remain yet unfed.

Zeig walks over to Roland and holds a ration out for him. He's bound, so I'll hold it sorta up to his face.   His expression is cool but shows no malice.

"Eat it.  I won't drag your body back."

Roland appears only quasi-conscious and isn't interested in the food. He is still severely injured, and the only things he is managing to say are short, spiteful nothings.
[Private to GM:
Roland:  0/30 : disabled
OtherP: -1/30 : stable
Soldi3: 15/15 : tied up

By the way, I am assuming any unused cantrips are going for Create Water to restore your waterskins. If you're not camping next to a water source and the party has no cantrips left, don't be surprised if I start mentioning dehydration.

The tied up soldier says, "You can't just leave us out here tied up, especially not those two. We could be attacked and killed in seconds with no way to defend ourselves. They can't even yell for help."

DAI eyes them angrily, before disregarding their words and holding up the Amulet.

"This...is probably better suited for ZEIG, as he will be keeping us alive, and needs to be alive to do so...I don't know who the ring would best suit but...I would ask for it if no one else has a claim..."

He would then look to his allies, curious as to what they will choose to do with the soldiers, and the Temple.

Zeig looks at the soldier puzzled.

"Who said anything about leaving you out here?"

He follows up with a firm glare.

"The last time Roland left my sight the princess was gone, and the next time I saw him he was putting a bolt through Jack's chest!"

I thought we were going to give them a trial? Jack asks, diffidently. Anyway, we can take them with us. I don't think we should split up, there might still be monsters.

Sara remarks, "They should get a trial. A Cornelian sentance for high-treason is punishment enough. Until then, I propose we drag the two of them into the temple and shut the door. The former private second class here can carry our lantern in his teeth for us. After we finish our exploration, we should make our way back to Cornelia."

Roland releases some more faint, angry slurs and wiggles slightly but is otherwise harmless. The soldier's face goes white when Sara mentions "high-treason".

"Thank you, Dai.  I will be sure to keep it safe."

Zeig accepts the necklace from Dai, places it upon his neck.  Looking down at it, he holds it in his hand and closes his eyes.  "This body."

After releasing the necklace he turns to Sara.  "Shall we search for some clues, then?  Surely we can find what Garland was planning in this temple, and perhaps more myths and legends long forgotten will be depicted therein!"

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

Sara asks to use the flint and steel to relight her torch and places the handle in the soldier's mouth once again. The party drags the two defunct palace guards into the temple and shut the door. The soldier does as he is told, his gaze vacant at all times.

As the door comes to a close, Sara's lantern becomes the only light source.

Going to assume ZEIG told Sara everything you guys saw.

She simply informs you that she was blindfolded until almost before the party pulled the stone onto the floor outside of the northern door. Garland then picked her up and was trying to get her flat against the orb while the soldier prisoner attempted to help.

Sara knows that this temple has not been used in hundreds of years, and is rarely mentioned in any texts she's read.

The soldier claims he doesn't know what Garland's plan was. He was simply following instructions and was promised much more money than he'd get in normal service to the crown.

Sara says, "Let's head west, then? I'd like to see this mural and the sealed doors for myself."

Sara seems to know quite a bit about the murals and adds to DAI's and ZEIG's opinions and observations. She is fascinated by it and comes to basically the same conclusion they did.

Stay in school, girls! Woo!

You get to the first corner section of the temple. JACK gives the door a flying kick to demonstrate to Sara that they are sealed, and busts his ass as the door collapses into the room, shattering into thousands of moldy pieces and throwing dust everywhere.

After it settles, the party finds a metal chest which is sitting already-opened. Inside are many old rags and ratty pieces of cloth. At the bottom lies a leather cap that looks to be in fairly decent condition.

Re: Chapter 2: The Ancient Cycle

DAI shows some confusion at the door's willingness to open now...but takes a look at the cap, wondering if it, like some of the other items here, was magical. He then closes his eyes a moment, opening them with a light Arcane Glow, trying to discern the item.

Taking 10 on spellcraft for total 20, so I can sense a 5th level spell effect, or 10th Caster Level effect if not spell-related. EDIT: just school of magic...nevermind

OOC: Activating Detect Magic, concentrating on it for the duration of 3 minutes...just in case, first 3 rounds spent staring at the cap.
