Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

The conversation moves into the dining room at the ring of a bell. You are all motioned to sit down first.

The animated, thick man goes round the table and introduces everyone in the council to the party, including himself. His name is NEIL. They all toast to the five of you and your returning to Provoka often in the future.

A salad of mixed terrestrial and sea-based plants and roughage is served. NEIL speaks up. "We have a tradition here in Provoka. At dinner, the talk should be merry." He chews for a bit then motions to ZEIG and JACK with his fork. "So. Is it now the style in Cornelia to shave one's eyebrows and head?" Laughter, not a bit of it nervous, erupts around the table.

Zeig blushes for a moment, but quickly leans into the joke and removes the makeshift elven textile bandanna.

"Call it a bit of adventure we found along the way.  We really just can't seem to stay out of trouble."

Zeig tips his glass, knowing that rosy cheeks will go a long way to hide any future blushing.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

At the mention of lizards they all burst into laughter again. "At least half of us here have had good ol' lizzy spit all over our faces. The damn things can swim, too.", says one of the other council members.

After the salad, a modest feast is delivered onto the table. Food and drink from both above and below the water. Edmonds enters and takes a place at the table. He personally thanks you all for risking your lives for the city. Talk continues for the better part of an hour until finally the table is cleared.

"There were other goods on that ship, and some of the money did not belong to this town", says NEIL. "We've decided our best option, and a way to show our gratitude, would be to ask you to go back to Cornelia and let them know of your travel here, and that we are open for trade."

He takes a long gulp of ale. "Also, I think we should take the extra wealth we gained from your new ship and reinvest it into our economy, don't you think Edwards?"

Edmonds pats his mouth with a napkin. "I do, NATE, I do."

The guard comes into the room holding a silver dessert tray with five felt bags on it. NEIL takes the tray and places it on the table. It thuds as if it's heavy. "Understand me, you'll have to spend all of this here. If we can agree to that, then everyone's on their way to being happy again."

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

Zeig eats and drinks his good fill, and despite his awkward appearance he makes good conversation with the people at the table.

"I think it would be wise to return to Cornelia for a brief period, and it would be good for both of our countries to resume trade.  We won't be able to stay long, however, for we are on a very important mission."

Zeig clears his throat and continues.

"We are investigating various disturbances in the forces of nature, I cannot be more specific than that.  I think that we can put the money you've procured from the ship to good use in your town for certain, but in order to cross the Alean Sea we may need the help of a few additional sailors.  As this is a port town I cannot think of a better place to recruit someone that has the stomach for a little adventure.  Do you know of anyone that might be up to the task?"

Let's stimulate the CRAP outta this economy!

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

He seems to completely gloss over whatever it is you're talking about the forces of nature. In fact, most of this conversation has been directed towards JACK. They seem to respect the type of person he is much more so than the rest of you.

"There are probably more than a few grunts here that would love to go to Cornelia...", says NEIL.

Another man interrupts him mid sentence, "And make a little money while doing it."

"Yes, yes, and work has been sparse around here. The younger men are getting ancy to see the world. I can't blame them. Just don't steal too many from us." He leans over the tray a bit, "They're supposedly rebuilding their fleet, you know, probably gonna need able seamen for their crews. Is that true?"

Provoka is not a "country" per se. They are a merely decent sized city with a few moderately powerful noblemen, but not a nation as Cornelia would be considered, with many satellite towns and minor settlements and plantations.

And yes, the King did mention that the Cornelian fleet was under reconstruction.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

DAI had been sitting at his end of the table, silently observing the conversation going on, of course taking special care to NOT, I repeat, NOT take the hat from his things, and instead chose to wear his old pointed yellow hat...with a second though he decides to not take the Captain's Coat either.

As the conversation turned toward re-investing in the economy, DAI's eyes moved to a distant place, where he imagined what kinds of Black Magic scrolls he could hopefully procure here...as well as alchemical materials, maybe a new, or better robe.

All in all DAI has very little to add, in fact nothing, and seems to have not brought his appetite, as he eats only a portion of what anyone else may have taken, seemingly distracted more then anything, but still aware of what was being spoken of.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

NEIL looks at each of you, assuming that you accept the bargain to spend at least 12,500gp in town before you leave.

"Any more questions? Normally we'd invite you out for a few rounds after dinner, but we'll have plenty of time for that the next time you visit us."

Will increment time tomorrow afternoon if there's nothing else.

The party now, collectively, has 26,585gp in liquid funds. Dividing this evenly 5 ways, saving some for party funding (to hire help, lodging, food, etc) and splitting the rest, or whatever else you decide to do with it should be discussed in the OOC thread. We'll assume your characters took the necessary discussion steps and what-all else.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

Another lengthy round of thanks are given. JACK picks up all of the pouches of currency and keeps them with the rest of the party's possessions. Everyone walks outside the manor and down the main causeway of the city.

It is now 10:30pm, Darksday.

You have free lodging at the inn near the south gate once again. You could sleep on board the ship, but it's really probably a good idea to spend quite a few hours hitting it up with Prestidigitation or hiring a cleaning crew to scrub the pirate stank out.

Many shops would be closed this time of night, though some are not. Decide on divvying the money before proceeding.

The party retires back to the inn. VIL decides to sleep with the party again, confident the boat is probably safe where it is.

He examines the map again, but can't place it. Knowledge (Geography)

The Firesday sun rises, and all of you get an early start on the day.

Points of order:
Black Magic scroll scribe
Find out something about the map

I'll handle:
hiring sailors, we'll assume you do that today

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

VIL follows DAI along to buy his spells.

The day is warm. Very warm. Most of the house and shop doors and windows are open to allow the sea breeze through. It's a much different sight than the first time you got into to town, when it was dark and everything was shut tight.

Basically the entire talk of the town is about the pirates, the four of you, and the bridge being rebuilt to Cornelia. No restaurant will accept your money, and if you do eat they will seat you outside at a table to proudly display you chose their establishment.

PETE is standing outside of the black magic scroll scribe. It looks as if he's trying different colors out on the door and exterior trim with Prestidigitation. He doesn't notice you as you walk up.

JACK, there are many, many shops in town. You can find basically anything you could want that's 4,000gp or less. Confirm in the OOC thread.

Zeig heads back to the White Magic scroll shop.

If you don't want to RP this out:
Selling Bar-element scroll (500)
Selling Wand of Dia (depending on what it goes for)
Buying Protectra (1800)

If you do, I don't mind.  I need to go to bed now though.

The wand of Dia sells for 945gp. [Private to ZEIG: That's a fantastic god damn item you're selling there. With all of the problems these guys have hitting things, you're selling your -2 AC debuff that cannot be resisted and that takes zero MP. Your game though!]

PETE turns around to greet you, already speaking as if he knows who is behind him as he does so, "Thinking about a new color for the place, yeah."

He welcomes you and VIL (and anyone else) inside. "Welcome to our humble store. If you think it's a bit small: it is. Most of what we sell came from Elfheim a decade ago. I only dabble in scribing myself."

He shows you glass cases lined with different scrolls. You can see what is for sale and what price in the Vendor thread.

"Sad to say, though, it looks like the pirates made off with some of our stock. They apparently didn't find it on the ship." He slides over two scrolls tied with a black ribbon as he keeps his eyes locked with yours. "Yeah, they're gone, never to be seen again, I'm sure."

DAI takes the scrolls in hand, taking a moment to inspect their uses before placing them within his pack.

"Sorry to hear that, maybe I can help you out with some bsuiness yeah?"

OOC: I'd like to know the spells before I buy anything, to avoid duplicates unless of course NPC VIL was planning on buying one of them.

Also: inquiring about how much the wands of Sleep, and Drain might sell for, unless VIL is attached to the wand of Drain that is.

VIL has no decision one way or the other about the wand of Drain. He says it's up to you.
