LOGG digs through some stuff, finding a few gold coins, he quickly tucks them away before walking over to the others "wow, sure is a lot here."

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

The MARY drops anchor for the night just to the east of the north bridge, in the outlet to the Aldi sea.

25 meals consumed for the day from the ship's supplies.

JACK can't quite get a bearing on the weather for the day before heading to bed for a nap before you arrive in Cornelia. The Iceday sun rises with a cool breeze behind it. The ship's sails tug the ship onward towards Cornelia at full speed.

By 3pm you are docked. A contingent of twelve palace guards are there waiting for you. Four unridden chocobos are beside them. Apparently someone from the bridge had sent word ahead.

A palace guard sergeant steps forward, "Welcome home! The King sends word that you are to meet him at your earliest convenience. We're here to offer our services in escorting you to the city gate and to take care of any other menial business you may have."

The Cornelian docks are on the tip of the kingdom's main peninsula. They are a half an hour ride to the city proper.

Another thing:

Here are the shifts I'm assuming you're taking. Please let me know of any discrepancies or changes in the OOC thread.

Daytime (first): ZEIG, LOGG, DAI
Nighttime (second): JACK, VIL

Daytime:
Captain: ZEIG
Second: LOGG
Nighttime:
Captain: JACK
Second: GERY

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

VIL has LOGG hop up on his chocobo, and the lot of you are off. The palace guards aren't much for conversation during the trip. After entering town, you proceed directly to the palace, then inside, and then into a sitting room near the great hall.

They nod after asking if there's anything you'd like for them to do during your stay in town. Let me know in the OOC or in-character.

Moments later. A man in a long and splendid coat walks in. While some of you think his face is familiar, none of you can place it exactly. He has jet-black hair with several lines of gray emerging and is clean shaven and well-groomed.
06:59, Today: teslas, on behalf of DAI, rolled 8 using 1d20+7. Know (nobility).

"Hello. I've been told you've acquired yourselves a ship, and are on a bit of royal business that will take you traveling. My name is SEAN, eventual admiral of our nation's new navy. The king should be along shortly." He cracks a bit of a smile, seemingly genuinely joyful, "Forgive me to begin the discussion before he arrives, but might I ask how you obtained the MARY?"

It is good to meet you admiral, I feel we may have some things to discuss.

"Slow down with the admiral talk. We have to at least give the illusion we're humoring the other potentials." The second half of his smile returns. "I had heard you had a crew of Provokan sailors. They should sail you well if they're as talented as their fathers with whom I served. If I might suggest something; give them some shore leave in the city. Stay for a night or two."

The main door of the room opens to a palace guard's plated gauntlet clonking against the handle. The king steps in and greets all of you as well as SEAN. "Well done. Well done. You even managed to find one of our old crafts. Provisions, a fresh crew, and home harbor any time you require it are yours upon request."

SEAN speaks up. "My lord, might I suggest a small garrison of marines. They reportedly only have two dozen men to man her decks. Albeit well-equipped to handle the ol' girl against rain and wave, they might not hold up very well against a Sahuagin raiding party as they cross the Aldi."

"Worried about your old girl, are you?" asks the king.

"If one less superstitious old man wasn't vouching for them I might be," he retorts in a warm tone. "We can spare our commander DUNN and a few of his men. Most of them have seen service before."

The king turns back to look upon the group. "Alright, I'll leave that for you to work out, but one more thing." The kings head looks downward towards LOGG, "My good halfling, who might you be?"

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

"I see. Your talents might indeed be useful," says the king in a deliberate fashion.

Addressing the entire group once again, "I'm also glad to see that you're home, and I'm looking forward to the results from your journey to Elfheim. I am sorry to only stay for a short while, but there are some other matters to which I must attend. Please come back or send word if there's anything else we might be able to do for you." The king turns and walks out of the room, stopping in the hallway. "Oh, I've arranged a going away present. Stop by the armory and tell the two guards there that you're the light warriors. Good speed, gentlemen, and let me say good work once again."

SEAN, at the mention of the phrase "light warriors", cocks an eyebrow slightly. He then bows as the king turns to leave before saying, "Commander DUNN will be waiting for you at your craft. Cornelia will finance their salary, food, and equipment, of course." He pauses, looking keenly over everyone. "So, that is why you're getting the special treatment. Interesting. If the old kooks are right, you have my most sincere wishes of good fortune as well. Treat the MARY well, gentlemen, and she'll return the favor."

He walks towards the door, smiling. "I'll be at the Rare Goose tavern tonight. Stop on by if you want to hear a few stories from an old man. It's a bit too fancy for some of your crew, I'd wager, but you might still consider giving them the night off of the boat nonetheless."

He bows deeply, and then walks down the hallway. The door is left open with a guard outside standing at attention. You are all, except for LOGG, quite familiar with the route to the armory.

DAI watches wordlessly, as he had grown somewhat accustomed to, as things transpired. Once the king and SEAN had taken their leave, he turns to the others.

"So then...what's the plan? I'd be fine staying in town for the night...might meet with someone, don't think I'd be much for the tavern scene though."

When DAI spoke he seemed somewhat distant, and when he mentions meeting with someone his childhood friends would immediately know who he is speaking of. They had after all, not seen the princess in quite some time.

Zeig is also quite ready to see Sara, but will head to the armory first.  Perhaps they will be able to initiate an exchange of the goods found in Rockwood in addition to their reward.

"I wouldn't mind a night at home after a trip to the tavern.  Of course, there are some things to attend to before that.  Shall we head to the armory?  We should get word to the crew soon as well."

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

The group heads to the armory talking along the way. Two guards, guisarmes crossed, turn their heads to have their eyes meet yours. Simply telling them that you're the light warriors, they uncross their weapons, bow, unlock the door, and stand aside.

Inside on the same trusty old table lie four boxes of varying size each with a leather pouch on top of it. In front of them a small piece of parchment with a name.

DAI walks over to his box, opens it, and lifts out a small circlet. In his pouch he finds 200 platinum coins.

ZEIG's box looks old and worn. Inside he finds robes, very similar to his own, but slightly heavier. His pouch contains the same amount of platinum.

JACK's small box has a single amulet and finds the same 200 platinum pieces resting on top of it.

VIL walks over to his box, the largest of all, and pulls out a chain shirt of an exceptionally dark metal. Know (hist) DC 25, Know (local) DC 20, Appraise DC 20, Any sort of crafting/profession that has to do with arms and armor. It looks exceedingly well crafted and the style of the thing is very hard to place. He, too, has the same amount of coins in his leather pouch.

There is no description of what the items might be. They must have assumed you were capable of finding out on your own, or that it is all part of the surprise.

No one important around, eh?  Guess I'll have to talk shop at the tavern, too bad he's not admiral yet.  Selling these weapons and armor might prove difficult.  We may end up keeping them for the marines or something.

GM Edit Skill Check Result-
Spellcraft: You have a suspicion your robes might be magical, but otherwise cannot glean surface any information from them.
Know (history): You are absolutely certain that VIL's shirt was made by dwarves. You can't quite be certain, but judging by the way the metal looks vs. the way it was described, it might be made out of of adamantine, a substance rarely ever seen outside of dwarven nobility.

Zeig relates the following about Vil's shirt after noticing it.

Afterwards, he looks for a messenger to send to the ship telling the sailors that they can spend the night in town if they so desire.  He dips his signet ring in ink and imprints the Tapir on the message he then scrolls for the messenger to read to the crew.  He also indicates that the symbol be shown to GERY the head officer as proof.

Afterwards, Zeig will retire to his home and spend time Identifying his new robes with plans to meet the admiral-to-be at the tavern later that evening.

Gotta go to bed, feel free to insert talking/interaction with me before I do this stuff.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

ZEIG has one of the palace messengers carry a letter to those on board the MARY before retiring to his home.

His robes are extremely faded. At some point it was probably bright white instead of a pale tan. It looks as if they used to have vivid red trim.

Robe of Fervency +1
7,250gp
+2 Enhancement bonus to Constitution
Grants the Endurance feat
Damage Reduction 1/-
These robes, unlike normal cloth, have a base hardness of 3 and 15 hit points.
12 lbs

(Keep in mind the +1 enchantment increases the robe's Armor bonus to AC bonus from +0 to +1. If you made the robe +2, it would have AC: 1, DR 2/-. It also increases the robe's hardness and hit points, if that ever happens to come up.)
