Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

"Glad to see you guys came. Now, I'm intrigued by what you're doing an all, but we'll have none of that this night. Sometimes it's good to simply enjoy oneself in the moment." SEAN looks around behind his shoulders. "Sadly, there are no women in here, so we'll have to get along on conversation."

SEAN has as extremely charming smile. It is immediately apparent to see how he could be placed in a leadership position. So much so you're tempted to roll Spellcraft checks (just kidding).

"So, that old girl you'll be sailing around on--she and I have a bit of history together. Care to hear it?"

DAI speaks up, for once.

"Anything you could tell us about it would only aide us in handling her, and who doesn't like a good story?"

"Of course!  Stories are best told with a drink."

Zeig pours himself another glass.

DAI sips on his glass of wine, giving it a shrouded look of light disgust at this flavor he was not expecting from ZEIG's fascination with the stuff. DAI would finish the glass, slowly, but not ask for more opting instead on water.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

LOGG arrives as SEAN begins his story. "So, I was a young second lieutenant and was assigned my first duty as a deck officer on a ship of combat... Well hello again sir halfling, just in time."

SEAN continues to tell his story, which most if not all of you find interesting. The MARY is apparently a slightly old design paradigm medium-sized ship of war. SEAN worked his way up to CO on board the ship during many, many skirmishes with organized pirate bands and sahuagins. In the story, many a night in port towns are covered--paying special attention to what exploits were once to be had there. He speaks of the MARY as a protective mother figure.

The more he speaks the more gradually his noble tone and method of speach becomes relaxed. By the beginning of his next part of the story he sounds like an odd mix of Provokan sailor and Cornelian prince. JACK, all the while, has been going through mugs of ale as if he were breathing it.

The tale grows slightly darker as he begins to explain how the sahuagin priests found some kind of magical power to bolster their ranks. Shortly after they entered into an alliance of some kind with the largest band of pirates. SEAN describes a losing war against superior numbers and a falling out of cooperation between Cornelia's and Elfheim's navies.

The MARY was abandoned after two thirds of the crew were killed trying to defend it. He, strangely, and out of context with his previous descriptions of fights, doesn't say much more of the circumstances of the battle. He describes how he and two other men attempted to scuttle her, but failed. SEAN was the only one of the three to escape, swimming almost a mile to shore. Only four of the crew of 120 survived.

"...and one day soon after, crash. The massive stone arches covering the pass from the Aldi to the rest of the world's oceans came thundering down, blocking it completely. The rumor remains some dark sahuagin magic of the deep caused it to collapse. A month later the north bridge was burned, further cutting us off from human settlements. The route over land east was too far and too mountainous to attempt to clear the pass, dig a canal, or establish a coastal fort nearby for transport of goods. We've been basically cut off from the other major cities of the world since.

That was a little over ten years ago now. With the new bridge, and your crew planning to go to Elfheim soon, we may see things change for the better. That, however, will be the story to tell the next time we meet, and I'm looking forward to it.
"

SEAN stands up and holds out his hand to everyone, shaking vigorously. "Good luck, gentlemen. And watch out for those Sahuagin spouts." He walks to the bar, hands the man several, several gold coins, and leaves.

Everyone gains 100 EXP for hearing the recent history of the Aldi sea.

After SEAN finishes and departs, you realize it is now 11pm. There are several more bottles of empty wine on the table, and JACK has drank enough to keep the bus boy busy by himself.[Private to ZEIG: You kept your one bottle you originally ordered closed.] All of you are having a hard time walking in a straight line, but otherwise keep your composure. You are inebriated, except for DAI. I'll post the effects if you do something that might be affected by it.

The young man returns. "The kind duke has covered your tabs for the night. What're you men having next?"

23:06, Today: teslas, on behalf of JACK, rolled 26 using 1d20+8. DC 20 Fort save for getting bombed.

"Um, I think I'll actually be heading out now, I plan on retiring soon so I can wake early enough to get some errands done."

DAI stands up from the table, saying his goodnights to his friends, and if not stopped, heads out to take a scenic walk home.

Zeig rises from the table and looks over to Logg.

"Your welcome to stay at my place if you'd like, but Jack doesn't look like he'll be finished any time soon.  Maybe you could make sure he gets back home in one piece and crash at his place?"

Everyone clears out soon after SEAN leaves. The next day begins early.

DAI and LOGG wake up shortly after dawn. LOGG, finds that JACK is still sound asleep. ZEIG, you're awake, swords and brestplate in tow on your way to the same armorer. The same man is there, already covered in a thin layer of soot somehow.

"Ah, elven work then. Might shift the customers interested a little bit but I'm sure we c'n sell the lot of 'em over time. Standard fare it is. I'll have the payment here when they're delivered... later today perhaps?"

"I think that should be very doable.  I'll have to round up the men, probably had a little too much fun last night with us casting off again so soon."

Zeig takes off in search of the men (checking the boat first) and plans to ask Dai for some friendly chocobo help for the transportation of goods.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

ZEIG, you approach the city's southern chocobo stables. There is a 50gp deposit on the chocobo, and they are 1sp per day to rent, all of which paid up front. Just subtract 2sp from your total. If you somehow get these things lost or killed then subtract the gold for that when it happens.

You make it to the boat. A man in a breastplate greets you as you walk down the docks toward your ship. "Hello. I am Commander DUNN, His majesty's marine core. Are you one of the four in command of this vessel?" he says, pointing to the MARY.

By this time JACK is finally waking up. It is 8:30am.

DAI wakes early this morning, spends a few moments considering going to the castle, before convincing himself he had other things to attend to first. DAI stops in at the black magic scroll shop, mostly browsing, seeing if thet had any new selections in.

They have the same old level 1 spells, but the attending mage is curious to confirm that you've come from Provoka. Most of the merchants in town are apparently excited about the new products trade could bring in.

"Hrm, indeed, if as nothing other than a point of advertisement. Magic usage has been gaining momentum recently, especially with the nobles being unable to send their next generation to Melmond."

He looks it over and offers 600gp.

Re: Chapter 3-A: "Chartering" a Sea-worthy Vessel

The weather outside turns to a drizzle.

ZEIG can see it come from the south towards the Cornelian peninsula, and it begins to fall on the rest of the party a few minutes later.

DAI, oddly enough, you find VIL walking up to the castle about the same time. He informs you he was having the same sentiment in checking in on Sara before leaving. He informs you that he's already sent word to the ship saying he'd be there by mid-afternoon.

The guards at the south gate of the palace let you through into the gardens. The inner gate guards inform you that Sara is inside of the palace library. VIL tells you he can walk in the gardens a bit if for some reason you wanted to talk to her alone for a moment.

Jack wakes. He sits up to take a look around, but bangs his head on a cabinet. He seems to have fallen asleep on the counter. He looks at his bed, and it shows signs of being slept in. His cot is nowhere in sight.

Jack gets up and gets moving. He decides to go check on ship and crew.
