"Is it alright if I take a look at them first? I might recognize one."

OOC: Who knows, maybe a knowledge(arcana) can help, or detect magic to sense what school was used in their crafting.

"No time to take many looks. Buy or not buy." The giant reaches into a pocket on his belt and removes a small leather pouch.

DAI shrugs, taking the pouch and tossing a detect magic on it to make sure it was a magical necklace. If so, he rummages through his bags and gets 200 platinum for the Giant.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

With the rain nearly coming down through the trees in waves, DAI and the giant make the exchange. DAI spends several moments taking handfull after handfull of coins out of his purse and putting them into the giant's, who merely waits until he is done.

He then quickly counts it, dumps it into a pouch on his belt, and then hands DAI a different small leather pouch. "This is a saying we have. If you come back, we will not forget your old story, but we will not remember it for you." He then turns around picking up his large sack which is now half empty, and walks back into the forest where the other large giant-sized shapes are waiting.

The necklace looks to be some sort of cloudy quartz crystal suspended on the end of a somewhat tarnished silver chain. Inside of it are areas of discoloration of some kind--it's hard to see in this light with the rain pouring down.

Thunder begins to crackle more and more overhead. The sky darkens to the brightness of dusk. The wind sounds quite severe up in the canopy, but the air is basically still own the forest floor.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

DAI, wanting to get through the storm as fast as possible, and also knowing without some aid they would be rather slow, summons up four chocobos(one of which is free).

On the ride, DAI attempts to identify the necklace he got, wondering if he had found a nice deal out here in the middle of nowhere. He hoped so, otherwise waiting for the storm to start was for naught.

Taking 10(since I always can with my feat) for total 23 on concentration.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

Four yellow chocobos are brought in. They make much better time through the mud and undergrowth, but are still substantially slowed. The storm blows over by close to sundown. Behind it follows exceptionally warm temperatures, turning the forest into a miserable, sticky place.

DC 15 and at times DC 20 Concentration check to Identify while riding in the storm through bushes hitting you in the face and the chocobo jostling around.  And you pass them all.

After DAI figures out what he's got, he and ZEIG put their head together about the interesting item. DAI thought he might remember hearing something about such things but nothing seems to come to mind presently. What DAI and ZEIG are able to remember is that this necklace looks to have one crystal for each element embedded inside of it, and should work for all elemental days, not just Firesday. If this is the case, then tomorrow it should work for Earth spells with the small red discoloration becoming dimmer and the brown one becoming more expressed. It will work for the six basic elemental days, but will not function on Darksday and Lightsday.

Looking at the map, the party guesses it will finally be out of the Central Forest and looking at the banks of Deepflight Lake by mid-day tomorrow.

Decide if you want to use someone's magical tent tonight, or just use a "normal" one from the Survival Pouch.

ZEIG remarks that he's good to use a normal tent, though using a magical one would basically restore his magics completely if they wanted to be ready for anything.

"Well, I can't complain for getting some back, AND I still have all four of my tents in the backpack me and ZEIG got." DAI offers to use up one of his own, and puts the necklace on in place of his natural armor amulet(putting that in the handu haversack with the other three.

The group plops one of DAI's magical tents onto the muddy ground. ZEIG takes time to clean off his robes and whoever else's clothing with Prestidigitation before climbing in to the warm, dry interior.

He has enough cantrips left, assume you're all cleaned up and feel nice.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

The air is a bit thick and hot in the tent, but everyone gets a comparatively good night's sleep. ZEIG, after sleeping for a couple of hours, uses the alchemy kit to make a potion of Cure.
20:52, Today: teslas, on behalf of ZEIG, rolled 24 using 1d20+13. Craft (alch) potion of Cure, DC 14.
He completes it in very short order (two hours), and decides to attempt to finish a second.
20:53, Today: teslas, on behalf of ZEIG, rolled 19 using 1d20+13. potion of Cure, DC 19.
Satisfied, ZEIG packs away his two new Cure potions and takes his customary nap.

The party is not bothered in their magical tent for the duration of the night.

The Earthsday sun is somehow bright while not cutting through the sticky humidity left from yesterday's rain. The ground is still quite muddy in most places--the night doing little to dry the landscape underneath the canopy.

ZEIG comments how he'll be glad to get out of this forest, even if it is immediately followed by meeting an angry drow patrol.

DAI thinks on it, and decides to make four chocobos once more today, using his circlet to make one of them free. He makes a note of the day, and thinks a moment, deciding that he should be wary of using his lightning shield while wearing the necklace.

OOC: Out of curiosity, what kind of an action is it to take off and put on the necklace?

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

The party continues on atop their chocobos expecting to reach deepflight lake by around 1:30pm.

The forest begins to lighten up. Clearings, previously encountered only once a day, are now common-pace. Conversation is light, but the general tone is optimistic.

Coming along a clearing similar to any other, JACK immediately notices signs of a lot of giant's stomping around. Looking up, four human males are tied to tree branches ten to twenty feet in the air by crude-looking rope.

Two of them are clearly already dead and the other two aren't moving.

ZEIG, true to form, is definitely for taking them down going to to explain that even if they're all dead they should be laid to rest in a more respectful fashion.

Jack climbs the tree and attempts to lower the two that are not clearly dead down to the ground gently.

12:55, Today: JACK rolled 12 using 1d20+4 with rolls of 8. Climb.

By tied to a tree, do you mean hung (as in, a noose?). If so, disregard the commentary, he would have leaped into action immediately. Also, if I need to roll anything you can tell me.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

They are bound in different manners. You are not being threatened nor do you feel rushed, so you can take a 10 on all appropriate checks and take your time with extra rope in getting them down.

JACK along with the aid of some rope and one of the chocobos starts to lower the bodies down one at a time. The first one takes a solid 15 minutes of effort, as he's tied out on the end of a rather thin branch about 25 feet above the ground. Just in case they are still alive, JACK opts to lower them down as best he can instead of simply cutting their bindings and letting them drop.

ZEIG checks the first one who is cold to the touch. He estimates that he's been dead for at least the majority of a day. ZEIG immediately notices that the second person's body lowered to him, however, is indeed still breathing--barely. He seems confident that he's stable, for now, and asks if he should wake him up.

The other two bodies in the trees are very obviously damaged beyond the possibility of still being alive.

Ugh... Thanks for that. My head is killing me... LEO sits up slowly and rubs his jaw.  Say, dwarf, you wouldn't happen to have a drink, would you? Wait, scratch that, where's MARK? He's always got something on him.

LEO stretches his arms and cracks his knuckles. Was there another guy in that tree with me? Older, less good-looking, carries a shield? Last thing I remember before the lights went out, he was shouting at those Giants...

Looking at the robes of his rescuers, LEO dusts his somewhat travel-worn outfit off. Always nice to see a group of fellow mages. The name's LEO. I was traveling with my master through this region, when we were attacked by a group of Giants. You haven't seen him around, have you?

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

No. No, no no no..... Leo half-crawls, half-stumbles to the body of his master.

I... I'll finish what we started. Fighting back tears, Leo accepts the flask of elven swill. He picks up the heavy shield and stands.

Turning to the group of mages, Leo thinks for a moment before speaking.

I can't possibly repay you for rescuing me from that tree. I'm fairly certain the Giants took everything I have of value. I managed to stash my equipment over in that tree stump before they got to us, so I won't be needing any charity... But I don't know that I can complete my mission on my own. We were supposed to scout out the Dark Elves and then report back. My master's motto was "Never leave a job unfinished," and I don't intend to. Would it be possible for me to tag along with you lot until I can recruit some mercenaries to finish my mission?

[OOC] Edited for, of all things, spelling.
