Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

DAI grumbles. "It means that they're likely the victims here. The true king eh? Wonder what that could mean...Either way, anyone wanna help me run back and get a sample back? If nothing else I can be pretty quick if I want to be."

OOC: Fast would last 7 rounds, so I could easily zoom in, grab a sample, then hustle myself back to camp.

I assume you're kidding. One hit from those things and you froze like an ice cube. They'd eat you alive, and there'd be nothing we could do to stop them.

"They're also not that fast, and it took a while for more of them to surface. If I can find out what that lake's made of it might help understand those things." DAI looks back toward the body of water, now curious what these things were.

Leo sighs. Alright, I'll come along. I might be able to slow them down, should things go wrong. Perhaps while we're gone, our companions will break camp for the night?

Leo removes his breastplate and leaves all of his equipment behind save for his gloves and rapier.

I figure I'll travel light.

ZEIG does a literal face-palm. If you're serious, he will cast Protect on each of you, though he suggests that it might be better to leave the lake be for the night... or forever.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

"It'll be a few seconds tops, I just have to zip down, get the tools and another sample, and dash back." DAI holds out his longbow to LEO. "Know how to use this? It may work better as far as covering fire goes."

OOC: DAI has some normal arrows, and 10 Lightning Arrows, if you use the bow.

As for how this goes, I figure DAI will make his way to the lake, get the gear and sample, then Fast and immediately turn back. At that point a double move is 120 ft. If something is getting really close I can even cast it as the swift version first.

Leo politely declines the bow.

If you're as fast as you say you are, covering fire will be unnecessary. Plus, I'm not very good with those things...

Jack shakes his head. If you're serious, I should be the one to go. Grim and Zeig stay here, Leo, you move about halfway down so you're ready to assist either group. I hope you know this is a bad idea.

"Of course it is, but what are friends for?" DAI points down toward the lake. "Now, there's where I left the tools, just in case maybe you should bring another set of calippers and something to store it in, if looking for it is too...time consuming." DAI gets another set of whatever he all had down at the lake, and hands it to JACK.

JACK's careful walk down to the water's edge is uneventful. The sun has nearly set, and the water is clearly still glowing. JACK, following the trails in the grass, sees the site of the previous scuffle up ahead.

Choose what you'd like to do. If you move any closer to the lake, roll initiative.

As you begin to move towards the lake, you see four of the creatures stand up from the water 10 to 15' out from the edge. They then walk onto the land.

Didn't auto-take your turn with your instructions in case you wanted to do something differently.

Re: Chapter 3-B: Across the Aldi and Into The Forgotten Deeps

JACK gracefully weaves in between the creatures straight to the vial. He bends down to pick it up, and #5 attempts to bite him as he does so, but horrendously misjudges the distance.
15:47, Today: teslas rolled 4 using 1d20+3. #5 Bite AoO vs. JACK.

#5 then attempts to claw and bite JACK, only connecting with one lucky claw swipe.
15:49, Today: teslas rolled 3 using 1d3+1. claw 2 damage.
15:49, Today: teslas rolled 12 using 1d20+1. claw 2 crit confirm.
15:49, Today: teslas rolled 21 using 1d20+1. #5 claw 2 vs. JACK.
15:49, Today: teslas rolled 3 using 1d20+1. #5 claw 1 vs. JACK.
15:48, Today: teslas rolled 19 using 1d20+3. #5 bite vs. JACK.

JACK Feels the site of the wound tingle.
15:50, Today: teslas, on behalf of JACK, rolled 18 using 1d20+11. DC 12 Fortitude.

#6 dashes straight at him, maw open wide, but ZEIG's protective magic deflects its teeth from piercing JACK's skin.
15:52, Today: teslas rolled 18 using 1d20+5. #6 bite charge attack.

JACK continues his evasive moves as both #7 and #8 run up and fail to bite him.
15:53, Today: teslas rolled 5 using 1d20+3. #7 bite.
15:53, Today: teslas rolled 8 using 1d20+3. #8 bite vs. JACK.

#9 is emitting a putrid stench the same as encountered before, but JACK has already become accustomed to it. It takes a 5' step and sends two claws and its fangs his way.
15:55, Today: teslas rolled 20 using 1d20+3. #9 claw 2.
15:55, Today: teslas rolled 10 using 1d20+3. #9 claw 1.
15:55, Today: teslas rolled 18 using 1d20+5. #9 bite vs JACK.
15:55, Today: teslas rolled 3 using 1d4+1. claw 2 damage.

The small wound this one's claw leaves tingles a little more than the previous one, but JACK easily shakes it off.
15:56, Today: teslas, on behalf of JACK, rolled 31 using 1d20+11. DC 15 Fortitude.

#0 circles around and continues the theme of biting at nothing and screaming.
15:57, Today: teslas rolled 18 using 1d20+5. #0 bite.

#1 charges at JACK, missing him amidst all the flailing claws.
15:58, Today: teslas rolled 6 using 1d20+5. #1 charge bite.

#2 circles around and bites him on the wrist.
15:58, Today: teslas rolled 20 using 1d20+3. #2 bite.
15:59, Today: teslas rolled 3 using 1d6+2. damage.

The wound site tingles almost all the way up his arm, but JACK remains mobile.
15:59, Today: teslas, on behalf of JACK, rolled 13 using 1d20+11. DC 12 Fortitude.

#4 and #3, unable to reach him, run up behind their allies.

The water within 100' of JACK stops glowing and a myriad of little blue concentrations of light can be seen underneath its surface, slowly coming ashore.

Everyone else watching from the tree line can see JACK become surrounded. Though JACK is obscured from sight, you can tell there's still something very active in the center of the mess.

If you'd like to roll initiative, and start running toward the lake, roll it, and I'll put you in where appropriate.

You seemed to say that I need to make more checks. I can't find the rules that say that I have to (to me it says I have to make one check against each foe I tumble past. It says half speed, so it seems to imply that this is for the entire movement, otherwise it would say something like "2 squares for every one you go through").
