Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

Yes, you can choose to adopt your new class features before we start up again, or when you level up.

Before we start up again, you'll have a 7th level class feature.

I'm thinking something along the lines of any time you successfully cast a spell on a creature (by dealing one point of damage or by it failing a save against the spell), the next spell cast on the target of the appropriate opposing element does a little extra damage.

This means you could enfeeble or nuke something, then the next spell you cast would also deal a bit of extra damage, whether it would normally do so or not.

It has some humorous consequences of making the Light line much more tempting for the white mage if there's a black mage in the party, as the black mage could Drain something (or Aspir or Bio or whatever else), then the white mage could Light it.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

Hit a bit of a speed bump with a death in the family, compounded by the fact that ZEIG's game eats up about 30 minutes of my time each day (much more if I spam him with texts while I am at work).

Progress is still being made on the gitp front, though a lot of it is behind the scenes with spelling/style/content corrections.

Got a good bit more stuff up/changed on the gitp thread.

Instead of doing more today, I'm going to go drink a shit ton and then watch Iron Man 3. After that, real-life D&D. I think you can all find it in yourselves to forgive me for this.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

My gaming group tonight bought me a set of mint condition core rulebooks for 3.5 as a going away present. It's a glorious thing.

I just realized I'm losing access to the nerd apartment's full collection of 3.0/3.5 material. I mean full. Full. It's fantastic having the real thing.

Belgium. Across the Atlantic. A couple-few months from now.

It doesn't have much impact on rpol other than my awake-times become way different.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

I'm still alive. Work has become bothersome. So much so that even though ZEIG's game has slowed significantly, all that extra time I have is still going toward working (as well as being outside since the weather is pretty decent).

There's also the whole preparing to move across the ocean to a weird country thing.

The progress on the GitP post has been in small chunks but it marches along. I think I'm going to bring all of the files to work on a drive and that way I can use my multi-monitor work setup after-hours to get some solid time in. At home on the country with a comparatively small single monitor on a non-Das Keyboard™ is over twice as slow.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

I was sent word there was another FF1 seeking players on rpol. I went and checked it out and sure enough there was. The game's owner and I sent a few rmails back and forth, and seems like a decent enough fellow fanboy.

He's looking for players. Between all of us, we have about one and one third decent players, so I'm not sure how much a favor I'm doing, but I offered to post his game link here anyway in case it's something any of you are interested in.

Happy world saving, light warriors. I wonder which one of the two games was a failed cycle in the loop... maybe both...

link to another game
FF1 set to D&D 3.5

After years of digging this game out, playing it annually, and thinking how much D&D had changed to match the game in many ways, I've decided to use D&D 3.5 to run it.

I've used the D&D rules to duplicate, as closely as I can, the game situation, but this IS a D&D game. The video game has done the adapting, although the D&D options are limited.

Six classes, Charisma based spell casting, highly limited magic, spells, and items, all, oddly enough in a rather high magic setting. The classes were chosen to duplicate, as closely as possible, the 6 in the game. Others exist, of course, but are not available to the Players. Nor is Multi Classing until Class Change.

The basic premise: The Elements have been out of balance for centuries, magic is dying out or becoming lost as humanity dies out. The world needs champions. Four, to be precise, each one carrying a magic crystal that can reorder a specific Element.

I've taken a different approach to that used here to adapt the video game to the D&D system.. Hopefully you'll understand and appreciate the way I've adapted it, even if you don't agree with it. It's as restrictive, or nearly so, as the video game was, with limited access to spells and purchasable items.

Be clear: This is going to be a dungeon crawl, not high drama or major character explorations. Rather, a long series of dungeon crawls, complete with towns to sell off the goodies and restock the potion, and all that.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

I saw that game and considered applying, but then I read that prestige class will be "imposed".
quote:
Doing so imposes benefits. Note: IMPOSES. Bahamut's gift can't be denied or ignored. It CAN be avoided, but only as a group.

I don't mind it in this style of game where classes are only 10 levels long and is built for us to prestige. But I would rather go full Scout. Not Scout then Suel Arcanamach. That doesn't even make sense. Scout is a ranged class, while the Arcanamach's ability to dispel is specifically limited to melee attacks. The saves and spells would be cool though.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

Not that I totally disagree - if I'm playing 3.5 in the FF1 world, I'd like to build my character towards the concept rather than be forced into it, possibly through classes I don't like (I'd rather play a knight than a fighter, for example). However, the Scout is neither melee nor ranged, as either fighting style can function perfectly well. Actually, with all the ways to get pounce and similar, Scout really leans towards melee.

Woops, I meant to include that his name on rpol is "tmagann", so that you could contact him by rMail after reading that.

If you have any questions or comments for him, there you go. You guys know most DMs are more than happy to field questions/comments.

And I'm not suggesting you shouldn't talk about it here. This thread is for talking about whatever the hell you want.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

It's been some months now, but I'm still alive. My plans to move across the ocean have been delayed two weeks due to some paperwork with the dog, and I don't have a place to live until I get there. Swapping between friends, family, and the undersides of bridges, I don't have reliable internet access or when I would, people want to talk to me before I leave for years and years or some shit like that.

If any of you have quit check or have died, send me a PM so I know.

Still hanging around, sorry to hear about yer delays but at least you have some people to rely on for the time being, sort of. Dunno if the bridge comment was serious or not, I figure you'd at least have some of your valuables staying with a bud or something... either way, hope it's cleared up quickly.

I am also, if you somehow missed it the last few months, finally moved in in Belgium. I've been here one week now, and the great job hunt has begun. While this is going on, I'm making minor, yet steady, progress on everything FF1.

By everyone's last login you still have us keeping watch, glad to hear the shift has gone... 'smoothly', I know moving always sets me into a bit of an upset... can't imagine going from one country to another but at least Belgium sounds nice enough. Push comes to shove I hear they got some nice cafes there to help you calm down...

You're thinking the Netherlands, cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Here definitely has lax rules on such things, but nowhere in public, at least to my knowledge, explicitly for that.

And yeah, I've noticed everyone has logged in fairly regularly. I blame other rpol games for this. We'll get rolling again. I'm putting as much free time as I have at the moment into this, and my free time is likely to increase a bit over the coming weeks.

Sooo, you're in Belgium, unemployed, and bored with a consistent internet connection.

Fuck posting the spells on GitP. Let's get this game up and going again. :D

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

Hahaha, not quite that simple.

I still have a lot of housework to do around here. The last people to live here were very old and they weren't able to keep the place up. There's probably 500 man-hours to go in the yard (what they call a garden, even if it's not) before it does not look like shit. Of all the dinky little cramped fucking places in Belgium, I somehow managed to have a house with a huge-ass yard. It's like three times as big as any other in the neighborhood.

Then I have to be sociable with my roommate/girlfriend, and do a bit extra around the house since she's working and I'm not (and paying for my foods(but sadly not my share of the house/utilities)).

And THEN I have to, you know, actually find a job, which takes a while to research for each cover letter and to customize my resume per position. Then, there's the actual talking to people for interviews or whatever else they want me to do before I can get money.

So yeah, unemployed, but not unbusy, though I'd rather be unbusy.

And I really want to get the spells re-balanced and all of that stuff put in one place so you guys can see it. The new version of Harm is up, by the way. Quite a few other spells have had some minor tweaks, and I've tried to improve upon the wording.

There still needs to be a lot of consistency-of-style editing (but that can be done while we're actually playing this game).

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

Been a month. Still unemployed (but it's looking pretty damn hopeful, actually).

I am in Dutch classes four mornings a week, have taken up volleyball, have to entertain the roommates (girlfriend and dog), have to sustain the yard, and end up going out or having people visit 3 or 4 days a week... and ZEIG's damn game I'm in makes me post a few times a week as well.

Anwyays, all that being said, I'm still alive, and the FF1 thread is getting closer and closer to completion. The spells are 80% done (on Temper right now).

Just checking in.

edit-
Jesus, it's been six fucking months.

Re: OOC: Literally, Everything Else Ever

You've used it a few times I believe.

Just a little while ago it saved (mostly) everyone from being fatigued from sleeping in a storm and kept away chances of hypothermia.

Then it was used as weight to drag MILO down into this forgotten hellhole of death you're all in now.
