Keep on talkin', keep on movin'.

Feel free to ask/discuss things here as always.

edit-
Succinct observation, DAI. This thing definitely doesn't have a good Hide modifier under the circumstances...

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I'm guessing just opening a full waterskin and pointing it in the enemy's direction isn't enough for Water's bonus damage?

Hmm, what if I was covered in a Water Sheathe?

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Elemental Armor puts magical stuff around you, not real stuff. Think of it as the difference between evocation and conjuration in regular D&D.

A waterskin is not enough, no, though if you and ZEIG got busy with some Create Water for a couple of rounds into some kind of receptacle to keep it from flowing away that probably would be.

There was an item, in sandstorm maybe, that was something akin to a pocket fountain. You can put it down and it grows to full size and has water in it. Depending on its dimensions, that would probably work just fine, and be super humorous.

"Hey, why did the black belt just put down a small model fountain... oh shit, it's bigger. Wait, that's not bad I guess. Man, I'm glad he did that instead of kicking me."

And then the black mage starts casting Water III.

Oh hey... that staff that lets ZEIG use a powerful Water Spell, how often did it recharge? Was it 1/day or 1/week?

Just in case for when we might have to fight that thing.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I believe, and I'm not looking so this is just from memory, it's the AoE version of Water II, CL 7th, DC 14 Reflex. It's usable once a week, though a UMD check can help to use it more often.

The Water line of spells, by the way, were modified slightly. If you're planning on casting them maybe go look at them just to be safe.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

You were never given an exact description of the crown, though the impression was that it would be pretty obvious and not likely to be lying around any old place.

-You can keep screwing with the skeleton.
-You can try to avoid the skeleton but still screw with his home base.
-You have the other path in this room.
-You have a couple other paths in previous areas to explore.
-There's always the chance in some remote corner of one of the huge caverns you've entered there's huge chests full of loot.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Which makes it effectively a Water I spell since this would be against a single target. Still decent though.

Also, Zeig is suggesting to go bash the skeleton's head in. He's saying that we can't keep dicking around and not risking anything like we have been doing so far (undead in a room, horrible spidery statue, some dude we talked to for a few seconds). If we want the crown, we'll need to get our hands dirty. We're not going to stumble over it in the dark stanky cave without doing any stumbling.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Alright, well chances are we'll have to fight it eventually- somehow I get the feeling this will be teslas testing out the Dark Knight a little bit too, though that's mostly just because he sent the PM close to when we met this guy.

DAI is up for bashing its skull in, but with Garus and JAGA on the front lines. With no source of water nearby my spell likely isn't going to be very useful, but I have open 'known' spell slots and the scroll isn't worth a whole lot at this point.

So, to clarify: DAI will go with taking down the skeleton if we can get at least one more vote in favor of the idea, and he will be opening his Water I scroll. Also, redonning the necklace that double's the day's effects on spells since I'm not gonna use fire on him anyways.

ZEIG: Let's give it a shot
DAI: Always wants to kill things
Garus: Meh, okay
SILI: No thanks

That leaves JAGA, who said he may be MIA for a bit, and he's not responded yet.

Looks like you guys want to mess with it, unless someone changes their mind or SILI says "really, seriously, seriously no", but how do you go about going back and doing it?

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Zeig is anti-undead, but he is not stupid by any means. Just because the big horrible skeleton thing didn't immediately disembowel the party doesn't mean it isn't a horrible perversion of life that's powered by evil negative dark energy. He has no qualms with taking it out in the most effective way, even if cowardly.

Because we didn't immediately talk about the crown we don't know that it doesn't know anything. For all we know it could just be pissed off because we are investigating the area and interrupting its eternal torment (right...). This also happened to us in the encounter just before the fight with the crawlers. Lying and dancing around the truth isn't working for us, so maybe if we just own up to our deeds next time we'll get some information, rather than being cryptically turned away.

Zeig knows this thing is pretty damn powerful. I don't remember what spells Dai knows, but Ice Slick is probably a dumb move here. Since this is Watersday it is probably the best time to face such a creature, as his fire abilities if they are save based, will be lower. If we choose to use Water on him then our saves will be higher. I don't think Drenched will do much to him, but I could be wrong.

Spell the hell up from me and go in guns ablazin'. Zeig knows everything there is to know about the Skeleton template and Undead type, so he would tell everyone to pull out their bludgeoning weapons. Jaga would do a lot of damage but the flames may hurt him like a blaze spikes effect. Unless Dai was going to swap out a spell the Water scroll would be a one time use.

Why is it that the more I talk about it this seems like a really bad idea?

Fighting him inside the fort is a horrible idea, as we have no idea what is in there. I almost want to not fight him now, but rather be up front about what we're doing down here with the next intelligent creature we meet. I guess I'm changing my vote to taking the other path nearby first and hoping we trip over the crown.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

In reply to ZEIG (msg # 5885):

Scrolls also don't work that way, I'd be adding it to my spell list permanently but I have several slots open so no need to replace anything. Later I'd probably replace it, but won't need to for some time unless we find a bunch of black mage scrolls down here.

If ZEIG wants to delay the fight DAI will trust his judgement. DAI has 20 Int, I am just not great at portraying that all the time since I don't, but ZEIG is the wisdom/common sense guy, and DAI's only remaining friend of the original party.

Let us continue exploring then! Onward to more crawlers or some rockslide/cave-in traps!

I don't know what you mean by don't work that way, can you not use it to cast the spell once?

By swapping out I meant forgetting one of your 1st level spells and replacing it with Water. I have absolutely no idea what spells you know at the moment or if you have any slots empty. It's been a long time.

Nope, scrolls are just for learning and I haven't found enough scrolls to have filled all 16 of my possible known slots.

On phone.

DAI's scroll is a scroll of knowledge to learn the spell water. Regular scrolls also exist, but that is not one.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

General tactics say that if you don't want to fight something in a place, don't go to that place. If you don't mind fighting it somewhere else, just go somewhere else and see what happens--if you even have to "fight" it, that is. Always have one, if not three, retreat routes open.

And to DAI's earlier comment, no, this thing is not a dark knight. This thing was created like three years ago by this point.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I said I'd move the party along tonight, but that's looking like it's not going to happen due to previous obligations and promises as well as the fact that I thought my 9am appointment tomorrow was in Antwerp, but it's instead in Brussels. I have to wake up three hours earlier because of this. This seriously cuts into my have-fun time that I would have had around the other shit I already had going on.

So, I'll move the party along the next time I have a chance to sit down and concentrate on a post.

As of right now, reading what is here, I'd say the party goes back through the gate, but instead goes right away from the keep and toward the manor house. I'd pause there, and if nobody said anything in a 12-24 hour period or so, I'd just have you keep on moving around the perimeter of the wall, looking for a path, if any, that led away from this complex, preferring ones that ran deeper underground.

Ball is back in the party's court. I kinda just flipped a coin on what you were going to do, you pussies.

edit2-
Bonus EXP for moving the party along will be awarded, unless you do something really, really dumb.

Basically... in case of traps or it being locked, the walls of HP(Garus/JAGA) or saves with evasion (JAGA) should check it first. That is my squishy 20 Int black mage assessment >.>
