Re: OOC: Everything Else

I got this today, so at least some people are seeing it:

I realize this isn't very helpful at the moment but my schedule opens up considerably after February 17th.
If no one has stepped up by that time (hopefully someone will so you can get your play testing started) then I'd be happy to play. Out of the classes left, I'd probably prefer white mage or possibly thief but I couldn't find the links to the material so who knows(they were broken).
I have experience in 3.5 as both wizard, cleric, and a little rogue on tabletop (haven't played post by post) and played both FFI and FFXI. It sounds like a lot of fun. Hope you guys get someone soon but if not I'll be around.

Sadly he can't play until the 17th. I'll talk to this guy more just to keep the option open and explore how active he can be (it seems all of us are pretty active with Viladin being the handy-cap ;p).

Let's give it another day or two with finding another player. If we don't find someone by then then we'll proceed, if the three of you are willing, with the intention of finding a 4th as soon as is convenient.

We have options of how to proceed:

1: Someone can play two characters with the knowledge one will be plot-removed (that doesn't necessarily mean dead).
2: I'll roll up a very drab-acting DMPC that can be replaced at a later date. You guys can select the class. I'll post the character sheet on myth-weavers.
3: Doing it 3-man is an option. It will be HARD. I cannot give you proper XP lest I skew your levels too much. You will get more loot per person (split 3 ways) and I will reward such an endeavor with increased luck.

When I say increased luck, I do NOT mean fudged rolls. I mean giving you a break on random encounters, one or two less enemies in an encounter, and a few more consumable items found.

I'll let you decide IF you want to play this way and what particular option you'd enjoy the most. Again, this is only until a 4th person can be located.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Of those options I'd probably say go 3-man...worst case we can stock up on potions, and have viladin be sole healer until we possibly get a white mage, if we don't? Then I guess Viladin's stuck as healer...

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Just a heads up, today around noon(my time, so 4 hours from now) I'm going to lose internet access, latest I'll be getting it back is around noon tomorrow(so 35 hours max...hopefully). I may or may not have access between those times but, can't say for sure.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Hmmm... We could also have the guy make a character, and have one of us four play it until the 17th. I mean, he has experience in 3.5 and all the relevant classes, he seems polite, and he likes final fantasy. If no one steps up as a 4th, then I think this might be a good compromise. Of course, one person would have to role play someone else's character, which may be a little difficult.

of the 3 options, 1 and 2 will keep us closer to the flavor of final fantasy. Still, it might be worthwhile to play test what needs to be adjusted for groups lower number of players. I think we have more to learn that way, so if no one steps up and we don't let him make a character a month in advance, I think that might be the best option.

Or we could do both. Have him make his character, but have him be separated from Sara, Jack, Dai and Vil at a young age. So we have working knowledge of our last friend, and leave the stage open for him (or if he has to back out for some reason, someone else) to make last minute changes when he's finally got the time to play. Until then, we play as a 3-man party.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I do not super-like the idea of a player taking over control of a character another player has created and acted for. Even if the players don't mind, I think it robs some of the uniqueness.

As far as the options of putting the 4th player in the game when they show up: they're nearly endless. I have an imagination. We don't need to worry about how that would work (read: YOU don't need to worry how that would work ;p)

Well, I meant that whoever you talked to would create the character and we would temporarily control it, but I understand where you're coming from.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

The same guy sent another message. I send him the PDFs and a link to this board. He said he was actually currently free most evenings already, and implied that he'd still be much more available after the 17th. Let's see how this all pans out.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I have to go to work, sky is falling:

Short story short: Zeign (NAMEGOESHERE) is a part of the forum now. He is looking to roll a character, probably a white mage. He is still unsure if he will have time to play as of yet, but it seems promising.

I just added him to the game. I'll be able to post again in 20 minutes to six hours.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Hey guys.

This looks like a lot of fun!  I rolled up a character but I'm still not sure how to change my name on the site.  I should be able to be more active than I originally thought.  DnD games irl are such a huge commitment for large chunks of time (which I have in the evenings) but checking in on posts throughout the day shouldn't be too hard.  Looking forward to it!

As far as the name goes, I didn't lift a finger. I figure either it changes automatically or teslas changes it. Looking forward to the game

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Yes sirs, I change the names.

Alright guys, it looks we have four people. I need to look over ZEIG's character sheet, one last double check of your guys' sheets, and make ZEIG's heirloom post to him.

After that I'll post the next set of guidelines and information as well as the first in-character thread.

The guidelines/info thread will contain what colors to use for what actions, how initiative works, and anything else I can think of I've not yet covered. Two players have had questions about the languages of the world, so I'll cover that in there as well.

I've had some RL stuff with work as well as some personal stuff come up so I can't give an ETA on any of this, but I'd guess fairly soon.

Glad to have you all. Hope you enjoy the campaign.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

I ninja-started the game.

Have at it kids. Note: you are of course well aware of where one another lives. Your four homes are all on the same street with about 12 houses on it total. None of your houses are adjacent to one another.

Hahaha. That's what you get.

It's not a big deal. I figured we'd be off to a slow start for the first day or two but that's alright. It'll save us a little bit of time when everyone can be more active.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

First post up, gave something for Vil to do so he doesn't have to wait for Dai to post again. Going to read the game world information right now. Looking forward to fights, where I'm going to have to find a way to protect 3 squishy mages. :)

EDIT: As far as die rolls go, I think Initiative should be rolled by teslas. It will just be so much easier. The other ones I have no particular feel one way or the other. I'm going to test the die roller.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

Well, VIL isn't quite as squishy as the other two. In fact, if he could get his hands on a chain shirt or something, he'd be about as tough as you are. Of course you'll quickly surpass the Red Mage's durability as you level up.

The Fighter -> Knight class is all about protecting squishy mages. You guys don't have one of those. This should be interesting ;p

I think the Monk's high amount of AoOs along with his ability to move very quickly and lay down punishment might do fairly well protecting the mages.

In the other playtest, and I am not even joking, our White Mage has more HP than our Fighter. We are level 8. He has rolled 4 for five of his HP rolls, and the other three were 2 or 3. He has 18 CON (after a +2 CON item he bought) and has gotten a few of his HP+ class features. The Fighter has rolled 1-7 on every HP roll yet and (I believe) only has 14 CON. It's amusing, to say the least.

Re: OOC: Everything Else

True, I think I can do it. Especially if Vil assists me in combat. Well, we'll find out soon enough. As for the WMage, well it happens. What's the Fighters Con? If it's halfway decent, he should pull out ahead some time in the future.
