Jiro Koji:
"I'm not sure what 'scumvermin' are but I'd like to think I don't qualify, Alex-san. I do know that there's a bunch of better places than this for a conversation. If you have just traveled, from another country or whatever, food would probably be good." He manages a weak smile. "I know it always helps me when I've just finished a trip. There's a coffee shop a couple blocks from here, if I remember right. Public space, other people, so if I did try something stupid, you'd have help kicking my ass. And I'd probably deserve it."
"That sounds good. I could use some Timmies right now. Lead on."
Walking out of the Alley brings her close to the guy who had the SMG. She pauses by him for a moment, then kicks his unconscious body in the groin. This lifts the body a good foot off the ground. Jiro sees Alex's eyes widen at this, seemingly in surprise. After a beat Alex shrugs, leans down to grab the thugs jacket and growls in his ear.
"Take that you fracker."
Jiro Koji:
Mind working furiously, Jiro considered how best to answer her other statements. "I've got a theory or two about how you mighta wound up in the States, starting with 'annoying a teleporter' and moving onto greater weirdness. But, uh... I suspect there's some confusion here. For starters... this is about as north as you can get in the United States without being in Alaska. We're about an hour south of the Canadian border."
Alex stops dead for a moment and stares at Jiro. She takes a deep breath, shakes her head, and keeps walking. Jiro notices by this point Alex is moving much easier, and the wound on her side has stopped bleeding.
Jiro Koji:
He paused, deliberately putting himself into a relaxed stance, trying not to let his own nerves show, where they might set her off, but still ready to react at a moment's notice. Taking a breath, he continued. "That, and it's early fall here, so, yeah, this isn't especially warm for the region. At least, this version of the region. Where you're from, did you ever get attacked by a dimension traveling warlord called 'Omega?'" Not waiting for a response he continued, words falling over each other as his own nervousness grew, the itch on the back of his neck getting more intense. "I'm not accusing you of being one of his people, Alex-san, but, well, I think dimension traveling stuff could be involved. Which would suck, because it's hard and dangerous and stuff. Uh, and I'll shut up now."
"... now I know how Alice felt. If I hadn't seen thugs getting punched into walls, I'd say you're on drugs. The glowing hands thing kinda made me think I was on the drugs though. Since I've never heard of any kind of real dimension traveling warlords, much less ones named after Greek letters, and early fall does not equal late January... I think I'm going to have to go with the strange new world theory." Jiro can hear the disbelief in Alex's voice as she says this.
By this point the pair had made it to the Coffee Shop. It's empty save for a board looking cashier. The pair place their orders, but when Jiro goes to pay Alex pulls a ten out of the pouch of the hoodie.
"My treat." she says with a wink.
"Courtesy of my 'would be date' back there."
