Re: Looking For Games

I like it better, myself.  It makes DEX/OCV/DCV/SPD independent of each other.  Dunno, just really seems to suit me better.

*grins*  I'm one of those lazy gamers that hates change, especially once I have a system figured out.   But i'll try to find character creation online somewhere and see what happens.

Re: Looking For Games

From what I can tell, very little has changed between the two.  I have just picked up the books, converted a excel spreadsheet to total all the characteristics up correctly.

However I would really like to join a game, typically hero.  Genre doesnt matter ;)

Kevlyn:
You're welcome to apply for SWORD, though the 6e is a little different than previous editions.

For those of us who don't have 6th yet, can a character from 4th or 5th be submitted and worked through conversion?

Also... does your SWORD team permit characters whose heroic identity is typically undercover rather than openly and obviously one of the good guys?

I can convert. Just pitch your idea via PM in the game.

Re: Looking For Games

Thanks. I'll work up a sheet - may be a few days (between real life needs and my usual indecision).

Are there any powers from the earlier editions that are entirely removed in 6th?

Re: Looking For Games

In reply to Kevlyn (msg #1):

I am looking for a good game to play.  I am fairly committed with a good amount of time during the weekday to post, although weekends tend to be a bit hectic with kids.  I have played Champions from the original blue and white softback magazine/books through to the BBB.  Unfortunately my children have since destroyed my BBB and I don't have anyone nearby to play with, so I haven't replaced it.  So, if you want a player who can give good role-playing and writing with no book and an intimate knowledge of how the game works up through BBB and a twisted brain (I do math for fun which is what attracted me to Champions in the first place) but no books, I'm your man.

Re: Looking For Games

I am looking for a good, fun Champions game. ( a I'm also willing to try other genres of Hero games.) I only have the BBB and some old sourcebooks, but am willing to try to learn newer editions of the rules. PM me with a link to your game(s) please so i can check them out.

Re: Looking For Games

Anyone looking for a player who is still pretty new to HERO? I have tons of experience roleplaying, but HERO is... daunting to learn. I have no doubt once I get into it I will pick it up quick, but just need someone to help with the initial learning curve.

Would prefer a super hero game, with fantasy a close second.

Re: Looking For Games

I am considering running a champions superhero game. I have several six edition books. I have read the 2 volumes of 6e rules. I have two 6e champions source books. I have not run any 6e Champions yet, but have many years experience as a BBB champions gm and player. I have also not ever run a game on rpol, but played multiple campaigns.

Re: Looking For Games

Dieter, do you have an idea of points, style of play, and such? I would like to go ahead and start to try to slog through char creation - or at least get enough into it that I know what questions to be asking. :)

Re: Looking For Games

Well I would have to ask people what they want in a game/campaign and what power levels and point levels. So how about it? What type of game would you all be into and at what power levels and point  costs? Let me know and we can see if we can come up with something everyrone wants to play in.

Re: Looking For Games

In a pinch, I could run a solo 4th or 5th edition HERO game for you, PhantomStranger, but my take on superheroes is... not mainstream, to say the least.

I would, however, generally recommend starting at a lower point level rather than a high one, to leave plenty of room for character growth and developmnent.

Re: Looking For Games

Well, I would not turn down such, Manticore - and not mainstream can be cool, depending on what you mean. I have both the 5th and 6th Ed books, and while I know a lot changes between the two, I would think they are similar enough to not make learning one mean the other is off-limits. So shoot me what sort of game you would be interested in running, and we can go from there. Regardless where it goes from here, thanks for the offer!

Dieter: As for what kind of group game - I prefer adult games, just to allow for freedom of play as well as (in theory) more mature players. In terms of style - I am a huge fan of the Authority, being the heroes that defend the world from anything... but don't take s**t in the process (Jenny Sparks and Midnighter are two of my favorite characters of all time). I cannot speak to points and such, since I am just learning the system - so would leave that to you.

I would certainly GM a mature or adult game The Authority is cool as well. I like running world saving superhero games.

Re: Looking For Games

I want to get a taste for HERO 6E in action before I run anything myself, and I've been in a rut lately. Maybe something new will spark something. So I was wondering if someone wanted to run a private PBP game for me, just a short one-shot, to help me get a bit used to things? I have several ideas for games I would enjoy playing, many of which are set in extant settings, and some of which could be ported into the Champions universe or something like that.

Ideas (you may notice a theme here), in no particular order:
• Resident Evil Outbreak: Set in the hellish week from September 24th to Raccoon City's nuclear destruction on the morning of October 1st. I would play an exceptional person, but not action movie hero-level like they get later in the series, trying to survive alongside others and escape. I have some ideas for this as far as the monsters and stuff go.
• Left 4 Dead: Similar, though weighted more toward the post-apocalyptic end of things. Trying to find a safe haven, survive, gather supplies, etc., while battling or fleeing the Infected.
• Last of Us/I Am Alive: Cataclysmic post-apocalypse with a unique feel. I'm kinda looking more for Last of Us now, since it's got elements like overgrown cities and stuff. Looks very interesting.
• Champions: I wouldn't mind joining in on a game set in the Champions universe, even if it's not a private game. I can only do a short stint, though, so guest-starring for one story would be fun. I'd like to try Kara Loft, my Tomb Raider pastiche described <a href="http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/90468-Kara-Loft-Lost-In-The-Sands-Of-Egypt?p=2361643#post2361643>here</a> and <a href="http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/90468-Kara-Loft-Lost-In-The-Sands-Of-Egypt?p=2366776#post2366776">here</a>. I'd like to try her even in a game with superheroes (with some more gear). I think it'd be fun. A team-up in some kind of Egyptian mythology-based story like the setup in that thread.
• Dino Crisis: It doesn't have to be specifically the DC setting, but something like that. A whole city transported into the late Cretaceous, by design or by accident, with scientific detail and survival at its best. I'll play a rugged scientist or perhaps merc trying to escape and get back home! But then if she can't, I have some ideas for the character, like she's hyper-evolving due to the strange time-warp that brought them back or something. Stronger, faster, heightened senses, basically, evolving into a human that could survive in the savage Cretaceous (no, not a cavegirl).

There are a couple of other ideas, but anyway, I stress that it needs to be a short one-shot that is hopefully not super-strict about pace, as mine can fluctuate. I don't mind guest-starring in an existing game if you are fine with that.

PM me if you're interested!

Re: Looking For Games

Preaching to the choir on games using 6th ed.

Just can't believe, I see all these games started and no HERO.

My preference runs to Fantasy Hero, and I like both Turaakina Age and the Terran Empire settings.

Let see how many people check in, I am so desperate to play I could be convinced to run either a Turakian Age or terran Empire game.
