Re: Art

As I've echoed elsewhere, if you're not searching www.DeviantArt.com, you're missing the largest collective source of Steampunk creativity that currently exists.

Concept art from Iron Grip, this game has been a big influence on me in writing. If this isn't steam/dieselpunk, dunno what is!

Re: Art

I thought the original mod was off Half-Life but they actually made it a fully fledged game after its popularity!

Quite cool how they seem to blend WW2 tech with stuff out of the 19th C, Renaissance and Thirty Years War. Especially love the archaic uniforms sported by some of the officers and the ornate weapons.

Re: Art

Request: Steampunk Art set in the American West. Less 'weird west', more straight up steampunk, if possible.

Re: Art

I found that you can add powder based glow in the dark or UV reactive material to an epoxy resin mix and it will work.

I found this doing research in how to make something glow. First I started with the idea of using tonic water and UV LED's (still a good idea), then thought of that and checked to see if it works and it dose.... but only the powders for what ever reason, the paint and dye based stuff don't mix with the epoxy.

The idea I came up with first was those little pop cap things that toys come in at the 25 cent toy despincers at food stores, or petri dishes (they come in all sorts of size and shapes).  Then take them and fill them inside tonic water, and seal them up under the water so it is full with no air bubbles..... unless you want air bubbles.

If you want a lot of air bubbles set up a negative pressure pump into a sealed container full of tonic water.

OH! Check out this, and look up the oter guys guide if your interested in crafting things, he's got really good guides!!

Re: Art

non Chemical yet engineer's guess

the powder format is a stable solid and effectively providing "grit" to the mix. Like the small stones being a portion of a good contrete mix.

The liquid glow mixed with a liquid does what liquids do and diffuses. Could also be a chemical reaction.

Also possibly the electron acitivity that makes the glow is dissipate in the liquid. In the solid the outer part of the grain of glow dirt may be nullified but those inside are unaffected.

Re: Art

nah that stuff is in tonic water

and the other powders are ok to mix in drinks too

So they work just fine in drinks, but I read from the person that the liquid dyes and additives didn't work very well... guess the powders just mix with the epoxy better... maybe the fluid dyes make bubbles?
