Roahfustion gives the pair a bow, eyes still one them, "Hello, I'm  Roahfustion. And I'm equally curious about what keeps you sat perched in this cold, windswept place. I shall answer your query forst and then look forwards to yours in return. And it's always nice to know the name of folk that one convrses with. I am looking for birds. Or perhaps one." She smile and waits, a slight hand gesture being clearly a cue for the staff-wielder to speak.

The bard is wearing the warm, warm mittens given to her by a travelling merchant all those days ago.

The bard looks at the smaller creature, then back at the pair, "Greetings in return, and to you, Giselagain. And my friends are Troels and Blythe. And I still look forwards to hearing what brings the pair of you to be sat perched in this cold, windswept place. Please enlighten me." She smiles, all charm, but not comfortable with answers only going in one direction. Parity is what she chases.

"So if the goats were cured, that wouldn't be necessary, correct?" probes the bard, hoping to head off any escalation. "You see, the cows below, the things in the fields, are cared for by the farmers. It's their livelihood."

They are not wild then?
He turns and speaks in some strange gibberish sounding language to the big lizard, there is a brief back and forth.

We will pay those who have lost animals then. Might we buy animals from them?

Almost twitching at the possiility of a new language Roahfustion asks, "Excuse me, John, but the language you spoke with these people, what is it called? And what do his people called? I am a student of languages. And is there one here with the teaching skills that might share it with me?" She adds, "And I have some skills as a healer. I would be happy to see if I can cure some or all of the goats. Perhaps even stop whatever makes them ill."

Roahfustion says openly by as an aside to Blythe and Troels, (Celtic) "Would you object to being up here for several days?"

It's shortly after midday.

To Troels - I do not understand why payment would not be enough? We mean no harm and wish no great troubles. In fact we prefer to remain unknown to most.Perhaps you would intercede for us and buy the animals and bring them up to us?

He truns to Roahfustion - We speak what you might call dragonish, but i know of no one willing to teach it at this time. As for healing the mountain Goats, how would you round them up? they scatter at anything that startle them and nthing can keep up with them as they race about on the mountain sides.

Blythe looks at Roahfustion, pulls her cloak tighter and shrugs I Suppose not.

"Well, I assume the goats scatter normally and you catch the goats, correct?" the bard replies, indicating the fellows with wings. "So if some of the dragonfolk will capture some goats I can try and al them. Or, at least try and work out what's making them ill."

She considers for a moment, "Do these folks have money then? Otherwise how would they pay? Also, getting a cow up these muontain paths would be somewhat difficult. Perhaps impossible without significantlosses en route."

The man chuckles Well yes, they do catch them, ... with their claws, so the goat would need a lot of healing care after that.

I can see where bring a herd up here would be hard. The need is a few each week or ten day. say one every secod or third day. Giselagain could pick them up down there too, as long as we establish which animal he is to take. As for them having money? that won't be an issue, indeed the issue maybe getting a fair deal on breaking the coin into smaller coins fairly.

"So how about this then, the backs of cows for you can be marked with, for example, green paint, numbered sequentially, every third day. So the first one you take is numbered '1', then next one '2' and so on. To keep it simple, after '10, it goes back to '1'. Would that work?"  Roahfustion asks.

If that gets a nood she tries, "Payment. Well, if you've only got really huge denomination coins, to get things going why don't you pay for a block of three months months? That's 120 cows. We can assume you've had the first month's worth. Taht'sll make the farmers want to go with it. Someone from the city can come and check that you're getting what you're supposed to from time to time. Let's say, once a month. We'd need to get it agreed of course, but honestly I don't think that would be a probelm. Just provided you don't run out of money and the farmers don't run out of cows. I think neither will occur, but that's the point of the monthly checking. Finer details can be worked out later."

"If you're happy with that, then if someone catches me a goat and I'll see if I can find out what's making them ill. Or if you don't want to bother, we'll head off back down the trail now."

When it comes to 'how much' a cow is worth she has a guess at $6000 four hundred silvers. if she gets it far too high then a rebate can be given later.

OOC: From low tech Companion 3, Cattle range from 800-1,000Lbs. and cost roughly $150 a pound to buy.
Also, as information from Blythe or Troels, the skin (leather) and some less edible parts aare also of value, so perhaps selling butchred cattle would suit the farmers a bit more and may not bother these folks if it's just food..

An ox [B460] is trained and costs £1500. Seems odd to have one cow cost the same as 100 oxen.

Cows cost up to $1500 each? That sounds reasonable, as long as they are not breeding stock. Taking steers and bull calves would be preferred by farmers. How much was the Duke paying?

OOC: Ok, I've edited msg #962. I know it's too high but the bard didn't know the correct value and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be below market price.

Do we need a new thread before msg #1000 ?
If so, maybe we can wrap this one up before then..

Dear Roahfustion, GM has it well in hand I think. ;-)

This may drool over into the next thread a little, but likely no too much unless you go in an unexpected direction.

John_ That explains a lot of the a farmer would be upset.  Give me a moment.

he then speaks gibberish to the Lizard, which responds.

John- An expensive appetite she has, but we will agree to buy 5 animals per 10 day, which can be left in a small field we can arrange for our pick up. We would expect fairly large animals, say 64 stone or more and will send you with the first payment for a 10 day.  I wish a guatantee that no huners will attack her when she goes for the meat. We would then like to arrange for just the meat, fresh of course, to be left in the evening and we will ask for a lesser price since the Farmr gets some moeny from the skins, we would want the entrails along with all the meat. Lastly, do not cheat us, she is not an enemy this place wants. Conversely, she may well be an ally that they would greatly appreciate.

"Gotit. You want to ignore the goats. Small field. I've never weighed a cow but I'll repeat your words. I suggest the cows are marked with a big cross on their macks, dye or something. Minimises misunderstanding. Payment, fine. This is worth security for the villageers and farmland. Once it's established it's certain they won't disrupt such trade. No attacks from them can be guaranteed. Random folks wandering in we can't control. But we will seek to minimise it. Can the cows, and later, meat, be collected at night? I assume a barrel or cart would be the most conveniient container. Returnable, I suggest. And we talk in good faith here, you and I. I have the ear of the local lord, Lord Hadrian. I will request that he made a relaible person responsible for ongoing arrangement. Do we have, as first effort as least, an accord?" proposes  Roahfustion. Now that goat-curing is off the table, she's keen to get back down to the previous night's camp. Preferably a while before nightfall.

No reason for the skin and such, it's waste here.  She has no issue with picking up anything she can get her claws into, but a cart would b awkward and likely not reusable, A barrel neither but a heavy bag with a small log about a handspn or a bit more thick and about one and a half cloth yards would work very well. Place on a table like and yes, a night pick up is preferred. Maybe something to hold that handle up so she can grab it easily.  We can pay to have it built if that would help. And one place to pick up, not several, perhaps in the back of this lords lands away from people who might be frightend.
