Re: Rhic and Nijad

Rhic walked along the aisles looking over the goods on display. He had finished his assignment ahead of schedule and with no complications. So he decided to do the tourist thing and see the city. Pawn shops always drew him in. He'd found a lot of interesting things hidden in the back of an old display. between the cheap jewelry and out of date electronics you might find something that was worth a look, or a few dollars.
He paused looking into the rack of knives and spotted a shaving razor, not many were made anymore. since shaving without slicing your own throat was a lost art. He considered it, for a moment, It'd look good on the coffee table in his back room where he sat reading between jobs. Next to the old lather cup and strop he had picked up on a trip to Birmingham last year. and the old Water pitcher and basin he'd found in the basement next to a box of old newspapers when he'd moved into his grandfathers house.
Rhic didn't look like someone you'd expect to go antiquing. cargo pant's, a flannel shirt, and a fatigue jacket that had seen years of wear and tear. Big long fingered hands worn from years of digging in the garden and chopping wood, as well as scarred across the knuckles from sparing practice, and fist fights in younger days did not seem the sort of hands to be handling delicate items that were probably older than he was.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Nijad sighed heavily as he contemplated the broken toaster. Toasters, he'd observed weren't really the sort of things people bought very many of in the shop in the first place, and obviously formerly broke toasters sold even more poorly. The video game consoles, jewelry cast aside from a thousand failed relationships, and quirky items serving the ubiquitous local artists? Those sold. Fixing the toaster was obviously an utter waste of his time, a nagging injury of poor grace that Ross probably thought of as efficiency. Of course Ross probably rooted through dumpsters to save money on lunch.

Nijad had done his fair share of that, but it wasn't something he was proud of. The man was unhinged, Nijad thought crossly before shaking his head sadly and reaching for the soldering iron. A paycheck was a paycheck, and if the idiot wanted to fill his shelves with useless toasters then so be it.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

The store is quiet, as it had been all day.  Most people these days weren't buying, they were selling, or more precisely pawning.  The recession had been hard on local businesses, but the Aurora X-Change, was actually doing reasonably well by comparison.  Those who were laid off and struggling often found little other choice, but to trade their few treasures for much needed cash.
Perhaps half an hour after John decides to check out the local 'antiquing' action, the bell rings and four young men enter the store, their poor posture rather obvious as they hunch forward, their heads sticking out like curious buzzards.  They are dressed for the weather, wearing jackets and coats, two wearing woolen caps on their heads and the other two in hoods.  The begin to wander up and down the aisles, as if browsing, but it becomes somewhat obvious that they aren't really looking at the wares.

OOC: NIJAD and RHIC, roll me 1d20 please:)

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Ric gave the hoods a glance. He didnt see any obvious signs they were armed or more than just punks up to no good at first glance Still his hand fliped the straight razor over so he could flip it open with a flick of his wrist if he had to. His other hand slipped inside his jacket as if he were searcing for something in his shirt pocket.

23:24, Today: John Rhic Rhictor rolled 13 using 1d20. dm request.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Both Nijad and Rhic notice the young men are armed.  Nijad remembers that some unsavory young men were in the store the other day, having an argument with the owner.  He'd ordered very vociferously to leave his shop.

The two in hoods come around to the same aisle as John, while the woolen caps stay closer to the front of the store, near to the counter where Nijad is working.  One steps close to the front door.  Then they draw their weapons two pointing them at Nijad, and the other two at John.

"ALRIGHT, both of you, hands in the air, NOW!" They shout, almost in perfect unison.

OOC: If you do not intend to comply, initiatives are needed please gentlemen:)

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Nijad hadn't really paid much attention to anything, but he knew better than to argue with people with guns. Without any sense of guilt at all he threw his hands in the air.

"No problem, don't shoot. Do you want me to unlock the counter?"

Maybe if they got what they came for easily enough he'd get out this without having to sweep up any broken glass, or shot.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

the hair on the back of Rhic's neck was staning on end, there was something not right here. the thugs were not acting like thugs. They were orginized, and talking as one on top of it. His hand was on his own gun and he had a stright razor in the other hand. that gave him a decent chance against street punks.
Ive handled worse...crap that wasn't me

" Freinds you really should leave right now." Rhic warned flatly. He'd rather avoid the trouble but there was something that told him this wasn't your average robbery.

01:23, Today: John Rhic Rhictor rolled 7 using 1d10+1.
if the thugs don't back down .......
firing at the one closest to him

Wearing Ballistic vest -4 armor value.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

OOC: Dodging is fine, but you only have one attack at your level, though that will increase as your Physical score does.  Slash or shoot, but you can't do both.  The attack concept is that your attack is not one single attack, but the number of attacks you could make in six seconds.  Think of it that way, not as a single strike:)

Since this IS our first combat situation, let's do it one step at a time.  Once you get it, it goes quick.

23:55, Today: Secret Roll: LoC rolled 8 using 1d10. Init for gang bangers.

First Initiatives.  Gang Bangers rolled an 8 and Rhic rolled a 7.  However Rhic will get a modified initiative bonus bonus of +2 because of the weapon the punks are choosing to use.  Rhic's pistol has a +3 initiative modifier and the gang bangers weapons are only +1, so his initiative is now a 9.  Nijad is choosing not to fight this turn, and so has does not roll an initiative.  (An peaceful and honestly wise approach.  We'll see if this was a good decision:)

Next Movement.  Rhic is choosing to dive for cover.  There are plenty of racks, shelves, and large items in the shop behind which he can hide so can do this easily since his move is 60 feet/turn, like all normal humans.  Two gang bangers will run after Rhic (on their initiative) and their movement is also 60 feet/turn.  The attackers near to Nijad are not moving, since he's not running.

Third choose a target and attack.  Rhic decides which of the gang bangers he wants to shoot at and rolls his attack.  We'll call his gang bangers Punk 1 and Punk 2, while those nearer to Nijad can be Punk 3 and Punk 4.

Rhic's physical is 11 his base attack.  However he also has a skill of Pistol 1 which means his attack score with a pistol is 12.  His attack will be at a -1 however, because he is running while he is shooting.  So his modified attack score his now back to 11, a better than 50% chance.  He rolls an 11 exactly and fires several shots into one of the punks, probably taking him out.  I just need to know which one.

Then we'll do the punks attacks.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

The thug to Rhic's right staggers as Rhic shoots him directly in the chest and three red wounds blossom there.  This does not stop him, however, and he and his companion both aim their odd looking long guns and fire.

OOC: 12:19, Today: LoC rolled 21 using 1d20+1. punk 2 tangler attack.
12:19, Today: LoC rolled 7 using 1d20+1. punk 1 tangler attack.
12:20, Today: LoC rolled 5 using 1d20+1. punk 3 tangler attack.

Tiny silver micro spheres explode around Rhic, several of them missing their mark, but enough hit to count.  Those that make contact immediately release black gooey tendrils of adhesive that surround Rhic and quickly begin to harden...

While the one punk guards the front door, keeping watch, the other aims his pistol like weapon at Nijad and fires without comment.  Nijad is surrounded by the same barrage of micro spheres and the sticky dark streams quickly envelop him too...

OOC:  I need a luck roll from each of you:)

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Rhic hesitated for a second, his shot had been dead on and the thug was still standing. the second surprise was the weapon itself he had no idea what was being fired at him and that slowed his reaction fore one more fraction of a second.
"What the..." Rhic tried to wipe the goo off and only succeeded in getting himself stuck more soundly.

OOC: Yes it is on a 1d20 and yes, you made your save.

Nijad manages to dodge the adhesive tendrils which latch onto the wall behind him instead, covering a shelf full of toasters.  The punk who shot at him looks surprised, and then his eyes narrow in determination.

19:00, Today: LoC rolled 9 using 1d10. Init for gang bangers.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Nijad looked at whatever the man had shot at him hang on the wall with shock, not quite believing that he'd missed. Then, deciding that the better part of valor was probably out the back door, he spun on his heels and made a beeline for the alley.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

The punk who had fired the odd weapon at Nijad took aim and fired once more, determined to capture him before he could get away.  Once more the tiny silver spheres burst around Nijad, once more the black web of tendrils began to wrap around him.

07:43, Today: LoC rolled 9 using 1d20+1. punk 3 tangler attack.  Sorry their initiative was better.  One more Luck roll.  If you make it you're out the back door.

Two of the other gang bangers ran over and knelt down beside the now immobilized Rhic.  Hauling him to his feet, he nodded to the other who removed an odd cylindrical device from his backpack.
"This 'potential' one will please Immirhos.  You don't know how unique you are, human." says the one, his voice sounding like two different people at once.  As he touched the device, it lit up in patterns of blue, purple, and yellow light.  Suddenly before them appeared a glowing, vertical line, which opens, like a wound torn into the air.  The two gang bangers drag Rhic through this aperture and vanish from Nijad's eyes.

" It isn't going to please anyone when I get out of this." Rhic warned as he struggled witht he bindings. He watched in blank amazement as space seemed to unfold and a doorway appeared.
He did his best to shake himelf free of the goons hauling him away or at least make their job that much harder. what ever was on the other side of the door he didnt want to meat bound up and unable to do anything but fire off witty rejoinders.

Re: Rhic and Nijad

Nijad is finally caught up in the black web of adhesive, wrapping him tightly and arresting his attempt to flee.  He falls hard to the ground and is soon picked up by two of the punks who reply in unison:

"Your attempt was futile, human.  Immirhos has plans for you and the other Potentials and soon, we will have you all."

With that they carry Nijad through the still glowing portal and then disappears before Nijad's eyes, replaced by a rainbow of light.  He has the sensation of traveling, along with a feeling of disorientation that makes him nauseous as his reality is bent and twisted into unrecognizable shapes.  What could be on the other side, he cannot be certain, but eventually the shifting and swirling maelstrom of light slows and he finds himself someplace...else.
