Rolen:
Sorry, I used some old stats I had ... 4d6 re-roll the 1st one, EDIT: and keep the highest 3 ... and i got two 17s, which for an Elf become 19s (+2 Dex, +2 Wis or Int), and then the ability bonus at 4th, +1 to Dex & +1 to Wis = Dex 20, Wis 20.
EDIT: Do you use the point buy that's in the book? With base stats starting at 8, 10, 10, 10, 10, 10? Using 22 points?
If i'm wrong, then I'll change it .. point buy, whatever ...

It's cool, I was recently told you have more chargen binges than even Tim.  Oh my. yeah the in book point buy rules your Edit mentions are what we use.
(11 is 1 point, 12 is two, 13 three, 14 five, 15 seven, 16 nine, 17 twelve, 18 sixteen points.  you apply racial mod to the end, so buy up to 16 and your racial mod makes it an 18.  Buy up to 18 and racial mod makes it a 20.  Can't go lower than an 8, and only one less than 10 stat allowed.  That last bit isn't listed I think, but in official builder it forces that)

Okay, I'll edit the stats ...
You all will need to help me when the character gets introduced, on how combat/skill checks work.
Speaking of my character, when should I come into the game?

Here's where the current combat is going on:

The quickest way to have your char join in is to have him burst through the doors at a7/a8.  What would make more sense is that he's chained up at i5 and we have to release him after combat.

Finally, Rolen's tragic tendency to be picked last for sports as a child came in handy when the slave buyers didn't have quite enough on them for one last slave.

I agree, being chained up would make the most sense ... I was even thinking that Rolen would be changed up in his wild form, a wolf, rather than as an elf. He was captured that way and so he remains in that form, as its saved him from certain peril so far.

Strength 12 (+1)
Constitution 14 (+2)
Dexterity 20 (+5)
Intelligence 11 (+0)
Wisdom         20 (+5)
Charisma 9 (-1)

Not sure how you got two 20's by level 4, but we use point-buy. Just FYI. :)

Now becomes:
Begin  Pt Buy   Result  Racial  Result      Lvl 4      Final
Cha 08 -- -- 0 -- -- 08 -- -- 0 -- -- 08 -1 -- -- 00 -- -- 08 -1
Int   10 -- -- 0 -- -- 10 -- -- 0 -- -- 10 +0 -- -- 00 -- -- 10 +0
Str   10 -- -- 3 -- -- 13 -- -- 0 -- -- 13 +1 -- -- 00 -- -- 13 +1
Con 10 -- -- 5 -- -- 14 -- -- 0 -- -- 14 +2 -- -- 00 -- -- 14 +2
Wis 10 -- -- 7 -- -- 15   +   2   =   17 +3 -- -- +1 -- -- 18 +4
Dex 10 -- -- 7 -- -- 15   +   2   =   17 +3 -- -- +1 -- -- 18 +4

Does that all come out right?

I was more worried about the whole "Did we just set a PC on fire?" possibility.  Talk about awkward first impressions.

Also, yes the stats check out.

I get it now ... I hope no one was playing that wolf, thank goodness it wasn't me. Although it would have been kinda funny: "I spent hours agonizing over this character and you killed it in one shot ::throws old character away::! Now I have to build another one ... just don't kill the next one please. This is not a 'shoot first, ask questions later' sort of adventure, is it?"

EDIT: Can someone give me a run down of Who's who and Who's what
Character (player) / Class
for example: Rolen (Salow) / Druid
Would help me out greatly thanks

I9 is on fire, not i5.  If you look at the thread and click on the PC's names, you should find their character details.

Not to mention the picture link says Char name/race/class.  If not the players.

Heh, Human.  Nice touch.  Terdisas is a Changeling with Becomer feat (Really, really good at passing as a certain race) who never ever shapeshifts.

Despite changelings having "better stats" for a Storm sorcerer though, if I WAS a Human I'd have a more dangerous build without losing out on any skills, languages, or my familiar.

Yeah, it's very handy when you want to check a character's Sheet in the middle of a thread (unless they use the same name a lot and keep posting with the "wrong" version.  Oh Hi Bard sheet for Wizard Mittens! ;P )

RPOL is great, there is ONE nitpick flaw in it that makes me facepalm of course.  For whatever reason, the Dice Roller button vanishes when you are looking at a character details.

"Okay, I'll open my own listing in a tab to double check my attack.  Now to use the dice roller for dama... Oh, right."

As for you going too fast or not, I think you are fine.   Speaking of which, I should get to posting!... That either I spend my turn not doing anything, or kamikaze go in front of everyone while triggering an attack of opportunity... (and then Mittens couldn't open with Burning Hands without nuking me)

Freakin hallways and stairs man, we spend like 80% of our fights stuck where we started it seems the way these maps keep turning out.  Staaairs!  My archnemesis. (heads up stairs are difficult terrain in 4th)

Question: when wielding a two-handed weapon, does the mod dam get doubled? like say I'm using a greaaxe dam = 1d12+mod -- I can't remember, nor find this info

Rolen:

Nope.  In 4th edition the closest thing to "using two hands means MORE DAMAGE" Are "Versatile" property weapons.  which give you... +1 Damage when two handing them.  And even then, that's only when wielding them for Weapon Attacks. (incidentally, 4th Ed Greataxe is a Two-Handed Military weapon, 1d12 Damage, +2 Proficiency bonus weapon with "High Crit" Property.  Meaning you get an extra +1[W], 1d12 in this case, per tier when you Crit.  Not that a Druid can even use a Greataxe by defalut in 4th Ed.)

One of the more quirky things about Versatile weapons, they still come labeled as 1 handed.  For example, a Warhammer or a Longsword is a 1 Handed, Versatile weapon. Special rules for Small characters, Small charcters like a halfling can use them, but have to use both hands and does not get a +1 Damage bonus.  Meanwhile, perks that specify one or two handed wielding will only work if you use a Versatile weapon the "Correct" way.

My fighter Matt has 1-Handed Weapon Talent, he uses a Warhammer which is versatile.  If he ever swung it two-handed, 1-Handed Weapon Talent would not apply (not that he can, he uses a light shield so no two-handed wielding).  Why a Small shield for my fighter?  So I can actually carry a torch and fight at the same time, as well as not having check penalties and being able to use my offhand to pick things up or climb ladders and such.

In Dido's case it's because he is a tiny tiny man.  With a tiny man's throwing hammer and small shield... Which reminds me, Kitau talks about Axes because flavor.  She's actually wielding a pair of Scourges (tiny offhand flails) mechanically.

EDIT: Oh hey, they finally updated the character builder so you can attach dragon shards to weapons...  Still can't Deliberately Two hand wield a staff implement, or one hand wield a "quarterstaff" as an implement in the settings though.  Using both hands for Implement staff will, someday, give Terdisas bonuses.  So there will still be things I'll need to add in by hand.  Beats doing everything by hand though.

Re: OOC
Dez Fafara:
"A shrewd strategy," Dez agrees with a grin, "Along with hiding your true power.  Don't worry, you secret is safe with me.  So tell me, what should I practice first?  Vocal scales?

Emerald:
Emerald nods. "That's a great idea." she agrees with a bright smile. "Alright. The notes of the scale are Do-Re-Me-Fa-So-La-Ti... then back to Do again. Listen to this and then repeat..."

Emmy sings,
"Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow sew
Tea, I drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to do...oh oh oh"

...let's face it. The sight of Emerald teaching basically Gannon the basics of music scales for singing could probably ONLY happen in the DBZ universe. XD

Dez Fafara:
"Clever," Dez answers, "A song for the musical scale.  Though those aren't the things that come to my mind when I hear those notes.  But I'll sing it your way first."

(( It sounds something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqgwECgigsg ))

He then strums a little on his axe and says, "Now my version!

Dough is cash, it's hard cold cash!
Ray, a beam of burning death!
Me, the one for whom I fight!
Fall 'fore winter's icy breath!
Sew the seeds of vengeful hurt!
Law, oppressors armed with woe!
Tee, a logo bearing shirt!
That will earn me lots of dough, oh oh oh..."

Azure:
"Uh, I think my ears are going to bleed" Azure said as Dez began to sing. "Angus, William have a drink of this, it'll help ya recover form battle" He said as he threw an gourd with a cork in the top of it. "So William, if you don't mind me inquiring, tell me about your people. You seem like a very interesting race, as well as our friend Angus over here"

Emerald:
Emerald says to Dez, "Heh... neat lyrics. You sure are inventive! And don't mind the negative feedback... it'll just take practice. So what's the first thing you'd show me for guitars?"

When she notices Azure start inquiring about the other two's races, she giggles and leans towards Dez. She says quietly, "Interesting because they can fight, I'll bet."

1) Like the new lyrics! Bravo to the man who came up with them!

2) I was driving home the other day, listening to Daft Punk, and thought:
"Hmm, wouldn't it be awesome to make a Bard whose instrument of choice was a synthesizer?! That way all his magical tunes could be electronica! EPIC!!"

Re: OOC
For purposes of Byron's campaign "Broken Sword". In recent events, Mittens once again disturbed game to where Byron's brain just completely shut down. And this is Mittens TONED DOWN. Meanwhile, JD is going to leave the group around end of November. So out of consideration for "everyone should be having fun, including GM", as well as "we need replacement wizard", Chris offered to replace Mittens with a different character, possibly a wizard.

Possible alts Chris mentioned were Raymond, Lucky, Puck, Gale, Joey, and Jake.

Function of new alt: Replace cleric (Mittens) and/or wizard (JD).
Thoughts: We always seem to either kick so much butt healing is an afterthought, or have more than enough healing between having a cleric, a druid and a paladin. And even then, Tam has a healing staff and now found out the broken sword heals as well. So healing isn't an issue. Wizards are good for versatility, but since druids are good for that too, we might not even NEED a wizard replacement. So between plenty of healing and versatility, neither cleric nor wizard is vital. Now all that's left to worry about is: What would be most fun? So I'm going down each option, their ups, their downs, etc.

Gale:
Upside - Replaces JD's wizard and would add an interesting dimension to the group's dynamic since not only is her school specialty "illusion", so is her personality specialty. She's also very level-headed, which would cause zero friction with Byron.
Downside - Replacing a girl with another girl *might* make Byron eye-roll. But lately he's been kind of "whatever" about our alternate gender playing. The fact she is the only girl on this list of possible characters, though, is promising. Still, when JD leaves, that's one less guy in the group. Not a big deal for me, but David, who seems to be less and less into gaming, having even skipped last session entirely, would be the only guy left except Byron's NPC "Cho".

Jake:
Upside - Jake would probably be something fantastically different from everyone else since he's more into the mechanics of magic. He could be wizard, or he could be some manner of artificing prestige class. That said, probably would have to check with Byron before even bothering with building him anyway. Byron might not allow "artificers" in his world. Another upside is that his "science" mentality could have some interesting clashes with Tam's "nature" mentality. Would be humorous, for example, if Jake develops a crush on her only to constantly rub her love of nature the wrong way.
Downside - See above. Could prove hard to even find a class that suits him (though playing psion could prove fun). Having Robbie or Rover is possible NPC would fall into the category of Byron refusing to let you control your own NPC.

Joey:
Upside - He's a stern lawful good character. While David is playing such a character, the fact David is playing less and likely to leave for good (see above) makes Joey ideal for replacing Mittens AND Matthias as a tank.
Downside - Liz plays Chaotic Selfish. If her character doesn't change heart soon, I recommend not playing Joey. Tam has expressed patience with Xia, but even as a neutral good character, Tam has felt rather let down and disappointed with Xia on a number of occasions. I can see disaster from this. However, I also sense Xia is coming into her own here soon... but we'll see.

Lucky:
Upside - Barely have to put forth any effort. Just take Mittens' character sheet, and make minor adjustments since Lucky is normally a cleric.
Downside - If Chris wants to really try something new, it would make sense to try a new class. Granted, since healing was more of a "Oh and I can do that too" for Mittens, rather than Lucky's more "I can heal you?! Sweet!" attitude, it would change how cleric FEELS, but still. If Chris wants "new and different", Lucky's personality alone won't do it. And his being a cat will start to make the group wonder why people keep being cursed to become cats.

Puck:
Upside - The amusement of playing a pixie in the FIRST place is cool enough. But Puck is a pixie with immense confidence. And as a pedal, he would probably do some humorous things while meaning well and being honestly serious. Plus since you mentioned possibly a sorcerer build for him, could double as replacing JD's wizard. Personally, I see Puck's personality as something fun to have along, but...
Downside - Serious though the character may think himself to be, his actions will wind up silly and I can still see an eye roll from Byron. He's no Mittens, but his mere existence may make Bryon's brain break frequently. Then again, maybe not.

Raymond:
Upside - Sorcerer who has a paladin mentality would be fun. Zapping things with lightning primarily would be fun. And if you went "Titan Weapon" style, multiclassing him into barbarian would be fun and cool at the same time.
Downside - Race. What race is he? If cat, see Lucky's downside. If not, then... what is he?

Summary: It "feels" to me like Chris is leaning towards playing Puck and I have a leaning towards all of them. All for different reasons. As a reminder, since the worry is not "who will I replace" but rather "what will be the most fun", I'd say look at classes first, see what class interests you, and then decide on a character based on that.

Re: OOC
What a haz post haz!  Ree ranks for the awesome feedback!  One thing I liked about Mits is she felt pretty dang invincible because... well... she was.

That said, I noticed what you noticed.  Invincible wasn't really necessary for the most part.  Healing was usually after combat and unnecessary because of ye olde 5 minute work day.

But it's apparently so hard wired into my brain that wizard / sorc = squishie MUST NOT ENTER MELEE! that it's hard for me to compute Raymond in DnD.  But there's prolly a build out there that could make it work.  But the race thing... yeah.  It really is a big blocker the whole "cannot have the flavor you want must go with existing races" hardwired in the system.

Heh.  Tempts me to make my own multi-personality shape-changer so I can play 'em all.  :P

Re: OOC
Suggestion -- why not play something completely different. Don't go into the game saying "I'm gonna play (insert name here)." Go into character creation with the idea that you want to form something NEW, something DIFFERENT.

For instance the whip girl i created for DT. I knew I wanted to make someone who did subduel damage. Which is totally different than any other character i've played in the past. Though she was built more for support, she could easily switch out her weapons for other Lethal Reach Weapons and be a bang-on fighter.

So my suggestionis: if you want to play something new, something different, you need to forget all these past personalities and start from scratch.

An hour of recorded livestream X-Com  gameplay footage for the upcoming strategy remake. (skip to 4 minutes in, to get past the logo).  supposedly comes out October 9th, Pre-Orders for Steam and PC versions are "soon".

If you pre-order, you get cosmetic options.  Like the ridiculous X-Com Flattop (which can be put on girls apparently).
